We have now moved into Monark Grove Madison. We have certainly been happy so far after a month. It's fairly new. It's very nice, and they have a lot of amenities and a lot of things going on. We have cleaning once a week. We have a well-furnished apartment with a washer and dryer, a refrigerator, an ice maker, a microwave, and a full kitchen, so that's all good. The people working there are very good. The one thing I wish we did have was handicapped parking. There's no handicapped parking on this end of the building where we are. My wife and I both use walkers, so we have to park farther up and have a longer walk. So that's the only drawback. Once in a while, the food is not so good. Occasionally, what they have on the menu is not what they serve. We haven't participated in the activities yet. We've still got a lot of boxes to unpack and a lot of pictures to hang. We've got a lot of stuff to do, but I know they have a full gym, a game room, a library, a pool, and a tennis court.

Monark Grove Madison was terrible. They are a corporate that's making money off of turning rooms. Each time they turn a room, they get your sign-on bonus, and four months later, they immediately start trying to kick you out. When they were in the process of kicking my spouse out, they were processing a 90-year-old woman who was enrolled in hospice, and they were kicking her out. They were asking her family to please stop her from getting out of bed and roaming the halls in the middle of the night, and she was saying, "How am I supposed to do that? Why do you think I can do that from home?" Their nighttime staff was so understaffed that they could not keep the residents out of their rooms. I found this out because they actually put a test in for my husband to be tested for gonorrhea because they found someone else in his room in his bed. The room was adequate. It was just the inadequate staff. During the last three weeks my husband was there, they required me to hire a full-time caregiver to be there to do their job. They had him put in an ambulance and taken him to a hospital, where he spent two or three weeks, so they wouldn't have to do their job. I have the power of attorney over my husband, and every time they sent him out, they did not even call or inform me that they were sending him out. One time, they sent him down to a psychiatric hospital down there, and when I talked to the CEO in charge of Monarch Grove Madison, and she said, "Is it bad down there?" I said, "You're sending your patients down there. Have you ever been down there?" She said, "No. Is it that bad?" I said, "It was awful. It was deplorable, and you're sending your patients down there without even going down there and visiting the place?" At times, you could see feces on the floor in the hallways at Monarch Grove Madison. The dining area was okay. The food was getting to be a little boring, but most cafeteria food is boring. Practically every meal, they were pumping the dementia patient with high-sugar content desserts, and sugar actually makes dementia worse. It appears that it's a profit ratio corporation that's running off of processing patients in getting their $7,000 sign-in bonus and then three to four months later sending them out, and I watched that over and over. They were not there to take care of the patients; they were there to process us in and out. 30% were still left there when we left. They weren't very creative in terms of activities. They were not utilizing the funds they had to try to purchase activities for the residents that would keep them busy. Most of the activities we had on the floor were things that my family and I brought in to try to keep the residents amused. I would give the value for money a rating of 1. They sent my husband away from the facility without my approval. I don't even think they know what the power of the attorney is. I'm still receiving bills after bills, and I have a bill here from Coleman, where they sent him. That means, the weeks I paid for them to have my husband as a resident, he was stuck down in Coleman at a psychiatric hospital that was deplorable.

I toured and we're in the decision-making process right now, but we like it. It's very nice. The staff was very attentive and informative. The facility itself is immaculate. Anybody would be lucky to live there in their senior years. I enjoyed speaking with them, and I think the facilities were very nice. They have onsite physical therapy, they have a doctor that comes in, and they have a gym. They have a salon for getting your hair done, and they have a library as well with access to the bookmobile. They have plenty of groups that can get them involved in things such as a book club and a men's group. They do lots of little activities and things with them to keep them social and active.
