It has been a great impact. A lot of things that we could not do that would just linger into an instant negative surrounding of the home. We would have to go out and hire somebody to do it, and we don't have the finances to do that. It's a gift. The caregivers do everything. She runs through things with them in the morning. I am very delighted. Even the girls that came and left, they did a good job and they were very helpful. I would recommend it. I wish they would be able to give it to more folks. At our age, it's a gift and I really appreciate it. They changed the ladies that have been coming in. We have had several different people that have come here. There was only one that we were not happy with, but she only came once. It's just the switching of the girls, but they all do a really good job.

It was difficult to have consistent, qualified caregivers. When they came it was wonderful. I felt comfortable and he was comfortable. There were several great caregivers that had a good impact. The caregivers at night weren't great. If I had to do the work for them I wasn't able to get rest during the night. I would be more likely to recommend them if I could depend on someone being here when they're scheduled to be here. I would like to be able to count on the caregivers being adequately trained.

He is supposed to get a certain number of hours a week, and the person that we have is in school a couple days a week, so we have her for a few days a week for long hours. I think that I would like it more if I had someone for a few hours a day for more than just a few days a week instead. There is only so much that can be done in one day. I had a couple of bad experiences in the beginning, but the girl that I have now is great.

My loved is on hospice and requires skilled care, so we have been using BrightStar for about four years now. We didn’t start out with round-the-clock care, but it has grown into that. They are 24/7 and take good care of him. He can’t even stand up, so they have to feed him, change him, and do everything. He is very comfortable with them. It is normally an 8-hour shift, depending on the person, what they can do, and what is going on at the house. They have a lot of turnover. We have been very lucky to keep a group of people, but if they are on vacation or out sick, the back-up is not always the same. They have been good to work with and extremely flexiblewith with us due to hospitalizations, rehabs, and everything else that we’ve been through.
