Don't Use This Company

We hired this company to take care of my aging mother for nine hours a day while I worked. Keep in mind, we had set hours that rarely changed. The caregivers repeatedly showed up late...up to two hours late on many different occasions. They also sent people to care for my mother who were not trained properly. My mother is 81 and recently broke her hip. So when the Visiting Angels caregivers went outside for a smoke break and let my mother take a shower by herself, I realized this was a dangerous situation. The caregivers from Visiting Angels Lorain also moved rugs around and placed them in locations that my mother's walker would catch and create a fall hazard. Moving on to medications, they crushed pills even when the bottle said "Do Not Crush." One of the caregivers also helped my mother clean out her closet even after my wife had told her not to. The Visiting Angels caregiver ended up taking a bunch of my mother's designer purses and clothes...some of which still had the tags on them. I had several conversations with the supervising nurse and she apologized profusely and said she would work to get things in line. Unfortunately, the other Visiting Angels caregivers didn't care as much as she did. After four weeks of giving Visiting Angels time to improve, I finally decided it was unsafe to keep them as my mother was being left in unsafe conditions. I told the owner, Aaron, that I was canceling the service contract due to their inability to perform and that I was afraid for my mother's safety. He said he was keeping my mother's $3400 deposit because we didn't give two weeks notice. I told him the contract was no longer good since they failed to live up to their own contract, showing up late and leaving my mother in unsafe conditions. The owner still kept my 81 year old mother's money. Very sad. I would urge other folks looking to take care of a loved one to go elsewhere. Visiting Angels of Lorain, a.k.a. Olson Homecare LLC, is a company to avoid at all costs.
