I toured Brookdale Sussex. I liked that it was intimate. I like the floor plan where the residents are close to everything, close to the staff, and close to the dining, and living rooms. Everything's very close and the staff can check on them throughout the day. They're not far away. They're close to all the activities, to all the help they need, and the meals. I just thought the whole setup was very positive. The staff is friendly. The director, Jessica, was very informative, very helpful, and answered all my questions. She is very capable and cares about the people there. They have a lovely porch on the front and then at the back, they had another nice porch, so people could, if they wished to be outside in the warmer weather, it would be nice because then they aren't stuck inside.

I think my tour of Brookdale Sussex went very well. It seemed like a very comfortable place. They talked a lot about the dining area and the food. They were very gracious, and they showed me a lot of things. But I don't think it's the right place for me. The billing that they had does not work for me. I have long-term care insurance, but they put the bill very high for the room versus the nursing care. So if the long-term insurance only pays for the nursing care, it's a much larger out-of-pocket cost to me, so that's why it would not work for me. The room was very basic, which is also something with assisted living. I would look for something a little bit more apartment-style. If I'm having days where I'm able to do more, I want to be able to be as independent as I can and do as much as I can, and maybe even a little bit of my own cooking and things like that.

Brookdale Sussex was good. It was a smaller community and it looked like they were more personalized towards the people. It was clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Just the same as any other place, they offered activities, specialized diets, and stuff like that. The dining room was nice. The salon itself was open once a week, and I believe they have a couple of nice patios around the area.

We visited Brookdale Sussex, they were very nice. The people that took us on the tour and the administrative part of it were very, very good. The person who was supposed to give us the tour wasn't there, so one of the staff members did, and it was a confirmed appointment. But the facility was very clean and very nice. They just weren't quite what my mom was looking for. The people were very nice, the staff members were very nice, and things looked organized. We didn't try the food but we got the chance to speak with the chef. It was a small facility.

Brookdale Sussex was smaller than my father would like. It was close to home, which was good, but he might want something bigger and a little more social. The staff member wasn't there at the appointed time, but someone else took me around. Other than that, it was fine. I think they had less than 20 residents. I saw studios, and I think they had a bathroom in the room, but the showers were communal. I went after work. It was dinner time so I did not see anything going on in the activity room. It looked older than the other place.

Our experience with Brookdale Sussex was very positive. It looked like it was a really nice community atmosphere for the residents there. They were in the middle of an activity when I was there, and Jennifer was really nice on the tour. The rooms were accommodating. The staff was very friendly and outgoing. The dining area was very clean and very nicely laid out. It looked like everyone was very attentive to the needs of the residents. A guest musician was there and everyone was in the common room listening and singing with the guitar player.

I was hoping that Brookdale Sussex would be the one because it is a smaller community, and it is in a town where my dad had his office. It was very lovely on the outside but a little dark and low ceiling on the inside, and it kind of lacked vibrancy. The room was very small and dingy. The staff person told me that the carpet was going to be taken out and replaced, but I just felt the room was pretty small. All the staff people that I met were very friendly. It just seemed quiet. We were locked out on the patio, and the person who was with me didn’t have keys to get back in, so she knocked on both doors, and nobody came. And then, we walked around the building and there were a couple of employees smoking; that gave me a poor impression. And then all I could think of was what happens if my dad ever got locked out.

Brookdale Sussex seems to be an OK place. The rooms are fine but small and could be cleaner. Their dining area looks nice. They have an activities director that has different things for them to do, like playing games and watching TV, but my mother does not really join in the activities. They seem to treat my mother OK, which is the most important thing. However, the carpeting looks like it’s not vacuumed that often, but I’m not there every day, so I don’t know what goes on.

I was able to go to here for a visit. I was just there for a short period of time, but the facility is clean. It seemed like they have activities that the residents can participate in. It seemed like the people who are in charge with the meals are really nice. I was able to see their rooms and they were pretty small. For the short time that I was there, I felt that the facility is pretty nice. The staff did well in accommodating me and they have been in correspondence with me since my visit.

It is smaller and intimate. We were visiting at a quiet time, so we didn't have much interaction with the residents. Right now, my mother is living with me so we're looking for a respite care.
