"I was at The Retreat at Berryville for a brief tour. The director of marketing was very informative. She answered all my questions. The facility was very clean, very well-kept, and very pleasant. They had a lot of activities for the residents. If they could have alcohol, they could have a happy hour, which was wonderful. They offered the same things as far as amenities like hairdressing and PT. The activities schedule was very good, and I was impressed with that. The rooms were very spacious, too."

"We went to look at Hilltop and talked with the admissions lady. She was very good at showing us all the different wings, the dining facility, and the facility as a whole. The outdoor facility is paved and easy to get around. It's enclosed, so there's no chance of anybody escaping from the memory care section. There seemed to be a second outdoor area, and they had a place where you could pot some plants if you wanted to, so that was very nice. The staff members that I met were very personable and nice. The facility was very nice, clean, and had nice wide halls."

"My mother-in-law has moved in. I like the community. The people seem nice and caring. She has a nice room. They have walk-in showers. You furnish the room yourself. They seem to be caring and concerned about their residents. They have arts and crafts, and an activity room, and they have different kinds of activities there. It's not near restaurants or anything like that. It's pretty country. They have field trips."

"Been visiting this facility for two years in Winchester with mother. She made the decision to live at arbor after my father passed. She loves it with the up most passion. She tells me and everyone she is treated like a queen and the staff can't do enough for her. They check on her all thru the nite every two hours and even more if she wants them too. Loves the food. Activities galore not to mention a beautiful facility She only wishes she could come sooner w my father so he could have enjoyed the facility w her . She has a beautiful apartment and a beautiful attitude. You could not drag her from spring arbor. Thank u spring arbor for taking all the worries off me and letting my mother enjoy her golden years w your little bit of heaven. "

"My mother has lived at The Willows since the Spring of 2003. She is now 101 years old and I believe one of the reasons she's lived this long is the loving care she receives there. We had a huge 100th Birthday Celebration there with over 85 people and the staff facilitated the party with food, music, etc. This gave us a lovely, comfortable environment to celebrate. When I was looking for a place for Mom to live, I went to every Assisted Living Facility I could find. My sister and I wanted Mom to live near us so we could see her often. When we walked in the door, we knew this was the place for her. It was beautiful and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The room arrangement was perfect for her. As time has gone by, I am more and more impressed. It's a family, not an institution. Everyone who works there cares about each resident personally. Mom has written poems in the past and she is appreciated for that and asked to recite them on many occasions. The Administrator, Linda D., has an open door policy, so I can just stop in anytime if I have a question or a concern and she gives immediate attention to it. The nursing staff is superb. They call me if there's something they think I might want to know about and lovingly care for Mom both day and night. It's a very upbeat place to live - attitudes are positive, residents enjoy one another's company, they have a variety of activities, great entertainment, special events where family members are invited, a chaplain on staff, great food, and several special places to "sit and visit" with friends or family. It truly is a "home" for my Mom and every now and then she'll say, "I really like living here." I'm so thankful for The Willows and the warm, caring atmosphere where she can enjoy each day fully. "Somerford was probably my number three. They were very nice too. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Their rooms and activities were similar to the other facilities; however, I like this one better. The rooms were very comfortable. Most of them had a small kitchenette, private bath, little living room area, and bedroom. It was more than what my mother needs because she doesn't cook or anything. "

"My husband has been in Tranquility at Fredericktowne. Their staff is extremely friendly and personable. They take very, very good care of my husband, and they care very much about the community they work with. Currently, a lot of people in many areas of the work community are having issues with getting enough people hired, so they are kind of going through a lot of staff right now. They'll hire people, they'll work for a short time, and then quit because they or the facility realized that that person is not cut out to work with the elderly community. The ones that are there are really good. The ones that have been there a long time are really, really good. They are currently in lockdown because they have two people with active COVID, but it's totally contained in the memory care unit. They're going to start allowing the assisted living part to have visitation, but only outside the facility. It's very, very clean, they jump on things, and fix anything immediately. With so much rain that we've had this year, they detected a roof issue, and got it fixed immediately. They're not able to do a lot of the activities that they normally do simply because of COVID. I find that many of the activities are probably a little more geared towards women than men. Their food is very good, I like it a lot, though my husband not so much, but he's very picky about his food. It's not the most expensive place here in town, but it's still very expensive. Truthfully, that's probably the biggest issue why we're looking at trying to move him somewhere else. Most of the places around here, the cost we're paying, is what you're going to pay to get decent care. Any place that's cheaper, the care is going to be substandard."

"I toured Sunrise of Frederick. It was nice, and the atmosphere was good. The staff was good. The people were really friendly and the rooms were nice. They had just finished with the activities while I was there, so most of them were just sitting around watching TV."

"My dad moved into Spring Arbor of Frederick. It was wonderful. For activities they do have a long laundry list of things like games, cooking, and social type things. I don't know what all of them are. It's wonderful, it's a new facility. The staff is very proactive."

"Countryside is very close to Martinsburg. It was newer, has better layout, nicely landscaped and very clean. The house was brighter, more open and homey. The rooms were very large. They had a bed, a chair, dressers and a huge space. The kitchen was a brand new, commercial kitchen. All the food was made in the dining room. It was a large dining room with several long tables. They had a sitting room and a great, big family room. The families are responsible for transportation but the staff was very friendly. I do know they had holiday get-togethers. "

"Mom was at Care Haven Center. We were very pleased with it. They were really good and it was very clean. I had good communication with the doctors and therapists. The staff was excellent. They were very happy and friendly."

"We are going to move my brother to this area and are looking for nursing homes. We have called 3 times in the last 2 weeks for an appointment and no one has returned our call. We called for a 4th time this today and the person who answered the phone gave us the phone number to call for an appointment and to ask for Tammy. When we called this number and asked for Tammy the man who answered the call did not know a Tammy and was very confused. We repeated the number 3 times with the first person we talked with so we are sure we were calling the correct number. We will not be calling again or pursuing placement here."
