I spent 6 days at Poplar Spring Hospital. The only time I felt like someone was listening was when I saw the dietitian. The food was good. The nursing staff seemed uncaring and overwhelmed. There were frequent fights between the patients. At times I was afraid and this didn't help my condition. I assume most facilities of this nature are the same. It is sad we who suffer with mental and emotional issues are not respected and offered better care.

The care my wife received was substandard. Her case manager Rhonda was terrible she met with her a total of 15 minutes the day she left the hospital and seemed not to care about her needs or concerns. When I attempted to contact her case manager to arrange a family meeting my phone call was never returned. Finally, my wife's case manager pressured my wife to sign paperwork the day she left and back date it to avoid her being found to be unresponsive and irresponsible for her patients. My wife stated that she found her case manager talking and joking with staff about patients and felt her behavior was unprofessional.

I spent four days at Poplar Springs Hospital, and for the most part, found it a very peaceful and helpful environment. The many activities, attentive staff, and appropriate advice helped me to feel better about myself, which was my whole reason for staying there. The main things that I was concerned with while on my way to the hospital were the quality of the food, living, and the care that would be offered. The food was actually exceptional, the living was tolerable, and the care offered was certainly helpful, such as advisers and medication. I became anxious about some of the other residents that I was housed with simply because of the medical reasons for why they were in the hospital in the first place, but I ended up not having any problems with any of the other people, so it ended up not being much of an issue. All around, I would recommend Poplar Springs to anyone having problems emotionally or otherwise, and would certainly go back should the need arise again.
