Martha Jefferson House is a privately owned assisted living facility. I went to take a look at it and it was a nice facility. We're still waiting for it to have an opening because it doesn't have any right now and only has a certain number of apartments. My mom is looking for a 2-bedroom and that won't be available until March or April next year. I like the friendly atmosphere of everybody. It was not just the staff, but the residents as well. Everyone seemed happy there. I also enjoyed the fact that the people who worked there were long-term employees, which tells me a lot about the company culture. That is good and a positive one, because people stay where they are appreciated. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. I liked the uniqueness of the rooms. They weren't cookie-cutter, but more individualized. I like the fact that the people who become residents there can also customize their space so if they want to have a different customized walk-in closet, they can do that. They have the closet space already, but if they want someone to put in the shelving unit, they can have a contractor come out and do that. I love the apartments because they were so well-maintained, too. They have certain rules they have to follow because of the state rules, but they don't have the institutionalized rules that other places have. They're more flexible in how they can take care of their clientele. I also felt like they weren't as controlling as some of those assisted living were sounding like to me. I think the grounds are beautiful. It's centrally located near the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, a big popular university there, so it's a beautiful area downtown. When I went there, they were having construction in their waiting room so I couldn't say much about that particular part, but the way they organized it so that we can work around that with a faster kind of process is good. Overall, they were the best one out of all the facilities I went to see.

The facility is not in the best location as it is in the University area near many dorms. The staff was excellent and very caring and kind. The facility was clean, and was decorated very nicely. They took great care of Doris and she was being kept at the infirmary, as she was put there by her choice to die. THey brought hospice in and kept her very comfortable. She was clean and well cared for. The facility even allowed visitors after hours to allow the family as much time as possible with her before her death. They were always on top of her medications and her care. The facility had state of the art equipment and above average staff to attend to her every need. I would recommend this facility to anyone in need of a placement for their family members. It was a good positive place to be in a very bad and bleak time in the lives of the whole family.

This is a very nice place. The building is kept odor free and very clean; unlike other homes that reek of urine this one doesnt have a smell. The staff their are very nice not only to visitors but to residents also. My friend referred to some of the staff memebers as her special friends. Its good to know that your family and friends are in good hands while living here.
