Avoid This Place

My father was recently admitted to this facility. He is a middle stage dementia patient and wears hearing aids. The hearing aids are paramount to interacting with him. (more on this later) He is a fall risk. My mother addressed her concerns with him falling out of bed. The staff response was as follows: "We can put some pads down in case he falls and hopefully he won't injure himself" Medical staff that has never seen him or evaluated him, told only the patient (a dementia patient) that he had suffered a stroke.---not the case at all. I want him clean, treated with dignity, safe and a modicum of attention paid to him. During the last visit, at roughly 2pm: -He was sitting by himself in a wheelchair facing the wall. -He looked disheveled, unkept and did not have his hearing aid on. The staff mentioned he was uncooperative and unresponsive. Without the hearing aids, he cannot hear well at all. The longer he goes without wearing them, the worse it gets through the course of the day. The only reason he is here is due to the urgency on our (the family side of things) This will not be our long term choice. Not happy with this facility at all.

This place was horrible. I went in looking to take a tour or at least talk to someone. I FOUND NOBODY!! I finally passed this woman that was rude, and she said "what are you needing?" I told her and she said talk to this lady, and then she started rudely taking to that same lady, then mumbled something and walked away pissy! I walked out and said this is NOT the place for my daddy!!!

I liked Garland Nursing. They seemed really helpful, and the residents looked happy. I liked their rooms because they seemed roomy.

Garland Nursing and Rehab has a wonderful memory unit and rehab team. Their administrator has years of experience; seems she cares greatly for the residents. No smell in the home and residents are always at activities.
