"I met with the owner of Home Instead Senior Care, and he was very nice and helpful. They did take my dad to the doctor, and they did a fine job. They were on time, and they did what they said they were supposed to do. The people in the office are very nice and helpful. I don't use them a lot, but I've had a positive experience with them. They're efficient and fair with scheduling and billing. I signed up with them in March of this year. I would recommend them. "

"I have 3 caregivers that provide me with personal care 7 days a week. Susan, Christian and Joanne arrive on time and take such good care of me. They fix my breakfast, take my blood sugar and vitals. The girls assist me with my bath and dressing. Then we do my exercises daily that the Physical Therapist taught them. They clean my room and living area and do my laundry. Christian takes me to Dr appointments too. Christian also takes me to Target or other places in my wheelchair to just enjoy getting out of my home. I really love the girls they are my family too now. Joanne goes to church with me. She pushes me in my wheelchair to visit with with everyone at church. Susan has a gift for cleaning and she does word puzzles with me. Each one brings me such joy as they take care of me."

"Mastercare is everything you hope a home care agency will be—reliable, professional, and compassionate. I needed temporary support after a serious illness, and from the assessment to the ongoing care, they handled everything with grace. They took time to match me with the right caregiver, and it made all the difference. My caregiver was punctual, well-trained, and warm-hearted. She helped with bathing, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and even brought in a bit of sunshine on the darker days. If you’re recovering or just need a little extra help at home, you can trust Mastercare to be there when it matters."

"The staff is very good and attentive to my mothers needs. They arrive on time and always let us know in advance if they cant be there. Mom loves he caregiver. Even though she doesn't use the Granpad, we have had the family put pictures on so she can see the family. That has been particularly heartwarming and has made not being able to see family during this covid easier."

"My wife is in late stage frontotemporal dementia. She is unable to communicate verbally requiring 24/7 total care. Home Care Assistance came in being strangers and took the time to get to know how she normally does things. There were no calls when I travelled out of town. When I returned two days later, I found my wife happy and well cared for. I was impressed with their abilities and experience."

"We had an excellent experience with Visiting Angels in Irving. My father was very hesitant about getting help at home. Olevia came over and explained the entire process to him, how they worked and how it would benefit him. They matched Dad up with Rosie and she has been a blessing for 2 months. She put Dad at ease and was such a big help on her visits. She came twice a week for 2 hour shifts and Dad always looked forward to her visits. Rose was always pleasant and did an outstanding job at what needed to be done. Thank you Visiting Angles for your assistance in getting dad back on his feet."

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Garland seniors can turn to these programs for financial, social and legal support. Some are based in nearby Dallas and cover most of Dallas County or northwest Texas, while others are specific to Garland city residents.

Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
