I am/was a resident of this facility

I am a resident of The Groves at Oak Ridge. We've had two restaurant managers since I've been here. The one that left did a much better job. I don't have any complaints about the facility. They recently remodeled the entire place, and it looks much better now than it used to, but the facility was 20 years old, so it needed some updating. I have a cleaning person come to my room once a week to clean it and she does a good job. The dining area is adequate. We have an excellent activities coordinator. Some of the things we have now are scenic tours, outings to Panera Bread or places to eat, manicurists come in, and people come in and play music. The staff are very good and very responsive if I need something. As for the value, it's a little expensive.

Provider Response

Hello Chris, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our community. We appreciate your kind words and will consider your remarks on food service for improvement.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My husband moved to The Groves at Oak Ridge. They have a caring staff. My husband isn't oriented enough to participate in the activities, but they have a lot of activities there, and they have a lot of trips and things for the residents. The activities director is going to try and line him up with the activities that he wants to do. The staff was professional. I talked to one of the nurses, and she said she'd been doing memory care for over 20 years, and she said that she loved working there and that they did a really good job working with the residents. I think that they all work together. There are a lot of people that have been there for a long time and that enjoy working there. I think they do a thorough job. I think it's a very nice layout. It just seems an inviting and comfortable place for people to sit and gather, and of course, the memory care is not as inviting as assisted living because it's kind of like in the back but I think they just put new carpeting in and it's probably okay. I think it's good. I think the layout is very inviting and very comfortable, up-to-date, and modern. It has a nice front porch that you can go outside. There's a little courtyard. The dining area is very nice.

Before I moved to Tennessee my son and daughter-in-law visited several facilities on my behalf. We decided on The Groves in Oak Ridge and I moved into a studio apt a week ago. So far I am very happy here and feel like it's a good fit.

Mom and I were very impressed with the updates they've made at The Groves at Oak Ridge. They have made some major good improvements. I liked their calendar each week. It has all these activities. Mom likes it. She's just not ready to go in there yet into assisted living, but she was excited about all the activities. They take them out and do different activities, shopping or hikes or walking or something. I thought it'd be perfect for me. I don't have to cook or clean. They have a happy hour a couple of days each week. Mom gets to bring her cat; that was important. There was already some lady there that has a cat and she had a picture of it on her door, so that made Mom feel a lot better too. We liked it. That's where Mom's going to go eventually. I may follow her down there in about 20 years. The lady we met with was really good. She was very detailed with the activities and was like, "It's your home, we want you to live here and live, we want you to stay here." She was good and we enjoyed it. Mom just told me today that probably after this winter, she'll probably come on in. People should tour it because it's awesome. It's good. We weren't there at mealtime, but we had eaten there before when Dad was there and it was good then. I'm not sure if they've kept the same chef or not, but I'm sure it's good.

We went to tour The Groves at Oak Ridge. Of all the ones that I've been to, this is the one I'm really leaning towards. The tour was excellent. It was all on one level, which I like. It was laid out nicely, kind of in a circle. You can go out one way, go around, come in a shorter way, and it's just nice. It was very clean. The staff was very knowledgeable. She had everything laid out and all the information that we needed. She took us to visit the room, and she was very helpful. Their staff had been there for years, so that's a plus right there. I liked the studio room. I know it was small, but it was nice. It had a refrigerator and a microwave, plus it had windows. They had 3 courtyards. We didn't go out because it was too cold. We did go to the dining room, and it was nice. It had round tables. We also looked at the activities that they had set out. She explained that they were color-coded for the environmental stuff and social stuff.

The Groves at Oak Ridge was very nice. The atmosphere was open, airy, and cheery. They have one particular floor plan, where it used to be two studios. They just basically had a doorway in between the two. They called it a companion suite, so one person can have a side where they just have their one little room, a bathroom, and a closet, while the other person can have their side with the same thing. They said that was their least expensive room that you could pay for. If you couldn't afford the higher ones, you could pay the lower price for one of those companion suites (which is almost like a shared space), but I just thought that wouldn't work for my mom because she has Alzheimer's. She wouldn't hesitate to just wander onto the other person's side, not realizing that's not part of her little suite. She needs her own space, like either a single studio or a one-bedroom, which was the highest price. The lady took me through the dining room and showed me the menu. It looked very nice to me. She introduced me to a couple of other staff members too as we were going through the facility. They were all very nice and friendly. She showed me some of the renovations that they were making. She was saying some of those little smaller community areas were going to be turned into offices for the staff. They were going to move some of those community areas up toward the front of the building when you come in. They said they wanted to make it more family- friendly when families come in; the community areas are all right up near the front, and they don't have to go traipsing all through the building, trying to find one of those community areas to participate in different activities. Those little community areas around the building had game tables set up and things like that. They also go out to take trips on little boats and ride out on the lake and different outings. So, it seemed like there were plenty of things to keep people busy. There were several ladies out on the front patio where they had rocking chairs set up on it and a few residents up and down the halls as we were touring around the place.

I moved into The Groves at Oak Ridge. There's a lot of people around my age, and there's some activities. They have a small bus equipped with the handicapped lift, and we go to a museum close by, and then stores like Walmart. The apartments are big enough. They have everything you need. The food is excellent. Breakfast is pretty much the same, but the other meals are very diverse. They're all very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. No problems.

We visited The Groves at Oak Ridge for my mom, and that was a good visit. Everyone was really helpful and nice. It seemed very, very homey. Everybody seemed to know everybody, and the staff had been there a long time. It was nice, clean, and they were updating it. The staff was very thorough. They have a barbershop and an entertainment area.

My mother moved in three months ago. She is very happy there, and she likes it a lot. It's nice, I don't have any complaints, everything is fine, and the staff is very friendly. Her room is nice and a little small, but she's got her TV, her knitting, and she's getting to know other people there. The dining area is nice, it's like she's got a little restaurant to go to three times a day. She's been doing bingo, she's been going in a couple of day trips, they have a small bus, and they take residents who are interested. They have church services.

My mother-in-law moved in, she loves it, and she's actually talking and running around. We love it, it's wonderful, the food is great, and the rooms are amazing. It looked like it was just built yesterday. The people are great, they have so many activities, and my mother-in-law goes to exercise classes.

It was very clean and very friendly. The people there seemed very happy to be there. The dining room was very open and nice. You could see out toward the street one way, and you could see out towards their back. It seemed to be very nicely landscaped back there. It just seemed like a comfortable, friendly place that would be very satisfactory to live in. I really thought they were doing a nice job there.

I’m very pleased with it. They’re very caring, very honest, and very professional. My mother is in memory care. Security is very tight; it’s a lockdown. I think the food is good; it’s always hot and very attractive. They serve it well, and they have a nice variety. I think the fact that the facility is small, there is a lot of attention that’s given to the various people that live there, and that’s really good. I enjoyed the tours, the accommodations, and the personal contact that I had with each of the different employees there.

We were treated very well. My parents liked this place so it's something they would probably consider at some point. They have a bus or shuttle that takes the residents out into the community on Tuesdays. I think they also had some kind of religious service on Sundays. The people who conduct it are members of the same church as my parents, so they thought that was really nice. Everything was clean and very nice. They had a little courtyard with bird baths; a bird feeder is attached to the windows. My parents really like that. One of the residents was gracious enough to allow the director to come in to her apartment so they can see her living space and give us a little tour. We interacted with her and we also spoke with some of the people in the social room -- they seemed clean, happy, and friendly. We also spoke with one of the nurses who was on duty there and she really impressed us.

I put my mom in an assisted living for a month and a half to give myself a break. She is now here. It seems to meet our criteria and I really like it a lot. It's convenient because it's close. Everything is very nice. The food is delicious. I have gone there and eaten lunch with her a couple of times and it's just really nice. The rooms are large enough. They have their own private bath. They have lots of activities that she can participate in and everybody is really helpful. I've talked to some of the ladies that worked there and they are all very helpful as far as it goes. The people seemed to really care about their patients. Mom is always very religious and they have devotionals every morning. They have church services three times a week. They have some ladies that come in and give manicures on Tuesdays. It's just like a little community in itself. I think they just need to stress a little bit more that visitors coming in should register.

The first place I visited was here so I didn’t have a place to compare. It's up to date and modern. It's seemed okay but I didn't see a lot of residents. I want to see people participate in a lot of activities.
