We have already moved into Hickory Valley. We like it right away. They had the availability that we needed. There were a lot of things that hit the checkboxes for us, and we were allowed to have our little dog. We couldn't have carpeting in our room because of respiratory issues, so they changed the flooring specifically. They did not require a deposit upfront. They have someone to work with us and help us all along the way. Their staff is just wonderful. As for the food, you wouldn't want any better. Our apartment is very spacious. We have our own private space, but they have a lot of social spaces, activities, and events. They have independent living and assisted living. In our case, two of us needed assisted living and one of us was able to live independently. I can still care for the needs of the assisted, but we can live in an independent unit. All day, every day, things are going on. There is typical entertainment that takes place, and then they have all types of activities. I love to work on puzzles, so they have different areas where people work on puzzles together and socialize. Then they have regular games like card games, pool tables, and bingo. Then there's a big movie room and a big screen for movie watching as a group at night if you want to go and socialize watching the movie. They have different denominations that do church service on Sundays. And for those who choose to go to, they have Bible study programs available. They have their own bus that takes people out to do their shopping if they choose to because everybody has their own kitchenette. If you don't have transportation of your own, they provide transportation to and from the doctors and to and from big events. Even though we have an independent unit, they have maid service that goes along with it. Someone comes in and strips the beds, launders your bed for you, remakes your bed, and cleans your apartment once a week, so you don't have to do that. They have a garbage service. Just about everything you could imagine is provided for. The money is worth it. It's still coming in under what we were paying for a typical apartment living. There's a garden where tenants grow their own flowers and vegetables. The kitchen staff are choosing vegetables from the garden space to cook with the meals. They have a beautiful, covered space outside for shaded seating, a sunny patio on another side, and a huge front porch area. The entrance of the building is set up like a huge porch, so people gather and sit out there together.

I'm in Hickory Valley. I felt like I was lied to in some areas. The building is old. I think if I came and looked at it the second time, I might not have taken it. The bathroom sink is rusted and it's almost off the wall. The bathtub is terrible. Maintenance is very hard to get along with here. You just don't want to ask for anything. They don't have as many programs as I was told that they had when I toured the place. There are not a lot of activities that involve groups, which is what I was hoping for. The residents here are very friendly. I have gotten to know quite a few of them and I have no complaints about my neighbors. The food is decent, but they have so many rules, that it's hard to get what you would like to have. You pretty much have to take what they give you. They offer an exercise class three times a week, but most of the activities are activities of choice. You're pretty much on your own most of the time. The staff is great except for the maintenance department.

I am only in the beginning process of looking for an independent living place for myself, and I haven't decided on anything yet. However, I found that Hickory Valley checks in with me if I don't call them first, they are exceptionally great with follow-up, they have promptly answered all my questions, even a lengthy "questionnaire" I put together so I could ask all my questions at the same time. They definitely impressed me without being "pushy." So far I have "warm feelings" about them.

We went to see Hickory Valley a couple of different times, and they were great. The staff was very friendly and very informative. The residents were friendly. We had food from there and it tasted wonderful. It was an older facility, but that would not be a drawback because the people that live there have been there for many, many years. They had a courtyard, a movie room, and a salon. They also had a nice dining area.

We chose to have my friend at Hickory Valley, just because of our interactions with the staff when we first met. We believe that they wanted the best for her and they were willing to work with us to find a way to get her in and we just appreciate them. They genuinely care. There are zero complaints from the time you enter the place, from the different sitting areas to the different activities, down to their bathroom. I couldn't ask for something better. I've eaten there a few times and I have no complaints about the food, too. Everybody that I see there enjoys it. I can't believe the amount the activities that they do there to try to keep an active environment and inclusion.

Hickory Valley was okay and it was fine. We went there during their lunchtime and what they did during their lunchtime is, instead of people going up to get their food, they were bringing their food to them, which was fine, except that they were bringing them in carryout containers. I did not like that part. The place is independent and assisted living combined. I like the courtyard that they have there but their furnishings were a little dark. I think that if they had been brighter, it would be nice but everything seemed to be very dark. We went during lunch and it didn't seem very bright. That part I did not like. They had community washers and dryers but I am not into that and would just prefer having it where I can just go and wash whenever I want it. It was also somewhere you had to kind of get around for that. They had a place where they had some available extra fitness equipment. Some dressers were out and visible as people were walking by. They weren't like in an activity room or isolated in any way. They did not have drawer knobs on it so I thought that was quite odd. The location is within 10 minutes of being downtown. It wasn't that far. It was also near a mall.

Hickory Valley was well built. They have an apartment that they're going to renovate for me to move into. They offer good meals. They have a lot of other attractions such as some exercise equipment and a game room. The rooms are a good size, and the room I'm going to get is convenient for me. It was not expensive. The staff members were great, informative, helpful, and courteous.

My mother is at Hickory Valley. She is doing OK. We are very happy there. Right now, she is in independent living, and starting next week she will have some assistance with bathing and dressing. We love it there. I would describe it for independent living people and independent with some level of assistance. Everybody is very sweet, kind, and nice. The staff is wonderful. They are very kind, patient, and very supportive of my mother. They have a dining restaurant, a workout facility, all kinds of activities, and a beautiful courtyard. They have just about everything that a senior community has. They have a bridge and bingo. They've got something going on all the time. They have chair exercises, crafts, sing, travelling out, and they go to lunch once a week too. Because of COVID dining is very hard, but they are now starting to get back to dining room dining. They have just been very kind and welcoming. They call every day to check on her. They go and see her. They're just very nice people, and it's a good atmosphere.

My father is in Hickory Valley. They charge you extra for everything you get. It's $3000 a month and everything is extra. They clean his apartment once a week and some of them aren't able to do that. The staff is nice; I have no complaints about them. They have a nursing staff there 24/7.

Mom is at Hickory Valley Retirement. We chose this for her because she liked it better. The most attractive thing about the facility is the friendliness of everyone. There are a lot of common areas where the residents can get together. She is at the facility for about a month now, and they have been doing picnics, shopping, bingo, and other different games.

I thought Hickory Valley Retirement was a real nice place. The only reason that I wasn’t that interested in it at the time was that they only provided one meal with the rent, and I was looking for some place with 3 meals rather than just one. I thought the rooms were nice. They take trips to different places; they go out to maybe lunch once a month or so, and there are activities in the buildings themselves.

My mother doesn’t like to take shower, so Hickory Valley had a full bath for her. The people there are very nice, and they help you with anything they can. She just loves it! She got a deluxe studio. It’s got four burner stove, and they have casino nights. They go to Wal-Mart twice a week and outings every Friday night. Her meals are already included. They will also take you back and forth to the doctors. Mom is doing physical therapy now. The staff is wonderful. Mom had a new bed delivered, and the staff put it together for her. They are just willing to accommodate you anyway they possibly can. Everybody is so friendly. It’s also close to gas stations and grocery stores, and it’s convenient to the shopping mall and restaurants. It’s centrally located and in a very good area. The doors are locked after a certain hour, and you can only go in one way. They make sure the residents are checked in at night before they go to bed and make sure that they get up in the morning.

This place has full stoves, full sized bath tubs, studio, deluxe studio, 1 and 2 bedroom apartments in independent and assisted living. Everyone here seems to be so happy.
