Southerland Place - CLOSED

My husband is in Southerland Place but they won't let me come in because of the quarantine, so I can't get past the front door. But I went there before this pandemic, and the staff showed me the room. It was a nice big room facing the yard and interstate, so you can look out and see the cars go by. He's got a TV, chairs, a bed, bathroom and a shower. It was very nice, and the whole place was pretty and very well-kept. They don't have a lot of exercise equipment yet but they're adding onto that. Other than that, my husband is doing fine and he's not as confined as he was in his other company. The community is well-kept and is one of the nicest ones I have seen. He said that the food is really good. The staff gets him up but they should get him up more because he doesn't get the exercise he needs. The staff has been very nice. I went there several times to bring diapers and supplies, they would meet me at the door and they're very cordial and they would do things for you. One time he won't answer the phone so I asked the staff to please go to the room and they did it right away. It's very nice. He's doing well so I'm happy with the place.

In terms of its physical appeal, Southerland Place is very appealing. It’s an attractive area. It’s peaceful and quiet. It’s decorated very nicely, and it makes you think you’re in a pricey place and not an institution. It’s pricey, but for what they offer, I guess you’re willing to pay. Sometimes, there are problems with some of the aides. I think they get kind of busy depending on the number of patients they’re covering. Sometimes, they don’t attend to a patient quickly enough. For instance, a couple of times in the mornings, Sandra has left the bed, and she’s still laying in her clothes.

We chose to go with Southerland Place. They provide nursing assistance, three meals a day, two snacks a day, a lovely living facility, open visitation, entertainment, and field trips. The staff is excellent, very willing to please, very hospitable, welcoming, and warm. The apartments are lovely. You can bring your own furniture. They accommodated us. We provided the paint, and they put it on and took the wallpaper off. They were wonderful. The location was perfect and convenient.

I went in to visit and had small children with me. The staff was very patient and accommodating. I came during visiting hours and it was quite busy. They were patient with my children being there and tried to make sure we were comfortable. The place was very clean and it seemed that the residents were fairly happy. There were very few residents sitting in the hallways. There were very many family members and residents in the common areas. My grandmothers room was very clean and organized. She was comfortable and said that she liked the staff. I was very happy to see that she is well taken care of in this assisted living facility.

My parents live at this facility and I am so impressed with the friendliness and competence of the staff. Everything is done to assure the comfort and care of the residents, including relaxed decorating of units, snacks on demand, personal preferences met, etc. It has 24-hour nursing staff, which qualifies it for longterm care insurance benefits. I would recommend it to anyone!
