I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I went to Harmony at West Ashley to visit a friend. I went and dropped something off there and went to the front desk. The lady was very nice. I asked what room number she was in. She directed me perfectly and I went there but didn't stay long. Her room was very nice. They have a nice landscaping thing going. The residents were sitting outside on the little porch and I just spoke to them and they looked well. The place was nice and clean.

I visited this facility

We went to Harmony at West Ashley. The tour was adequate. After we had gone to the other place, the staff was not as forthcoming and the facility was not very impressive. It was modern. It was clean, roomy, and had quite a few amenities. It had a gym, a theater, and a pool table. The grounds were big. It was in a nice neighborhood.

I visited this facility

We chose Harmony at West Ashley. It had pretty much everything that we were looking for, from independent living to assisted living to memory care. It was a very nice facility. It had a lot of amenities. We got a two-bedroom apartment. The people I talked to when we were visiting all seemed to like it there. We found it a good place, and we have friends who live a mile and a half away from there. The staff was adequate. The rooms and dining area were very nice. I looked at the menus, and I thought the food selection looked pretty good. They have two libraries, a gym, a movie theater, a card room, a pub with an outside patio, outside grills if you want to grill things, and parking if you want to take your own car. The facility was very nice, clean, new, and modern.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm at Harmony at West Ashley. It's wonderful. It's a large facility with a lot of people, and it's clean. I've got a studio, so it's a small one, but that's all I need. They have many different room sizes. The staff is very helpful and very friendly. They do a good job. They have bingo, they have a theater that has movies every day, and they have transportation to take you to the grocery store or to shopping centers at no charge. They also have transportation to doctors' appointments. They have games and a happy hour Monday through Friday. The food is OK, but it could be better. They have two libraries and a salon that's here two days a week. The outside area is very nice. There are ponds, geese, ducks, and turtles.

I visited this facility

If I could move into Harmony at West Ashley today, I would move there. It was a very impressive place. It was huge and they had their own movie theater in the place. They had some grills on the outside that they allowed the family members to operate. Price-wise, it was probably on the high end, but I was very, very pleased with it. The rooms were beautiful. I saw some people moving about and were in transit to and from. The people had their doors open and they had their apartments decorated the way they wanted it (even outside from the doors) and the people seemed to be very happy there. The place was clean. They had a barbershop, a salon, non-denominational services, and a lot of things. It seemed to be a much busier place. Their staff were very professional, very friendly, and helpful. They were talking to the residents while they were touring with me and they recognized them. You could tell that it was more than just a job.

Harmony at West Ashley was very welcoming and very friendly. The apartments were terrific. They're the best value that I found of the various facilities I toured. The dining area was attractive and the food was good. There were two choices for each meal. The grounds were very lovely. The back of the building has a nice view of the South Carolina marshes.

I visited this facility

I toured Harmony at West Ashley. I liked everything except, that they did not include all meals, just two meals a day. Everyone on the staff that I talked to was very helpful, the one showing us around was very informed, she knew everything. It was a very clean and nice place. They had good amenities. But there was a lot of stuff you paid extra for, which was one of the things I didn't like. They had a pool, games, a card room, they had a courtyard, and they had a nice place for dogs. It was a pretty place.

I toured Harmony at West Ashley. It was very nice. The people were very nice there. The whole place is quite nice, and the apartments are nice. It's relatively new, so I think that some of the apartments have not been lived in yet. This is a major big decision for me, and that's the issue and not the place. But I thought the place was very nice, and the people were lovely. They have a lot of activities over there, which is a real plus. They have people playing bridge, and I play a lot of bridge. They have happy hour in the evenings. It has a lot of things for people to interact and do things together, which is quite nice. But you have your own apartment, so you don't have to do it if you don't want to. It's a huge place and lots of different things. The apartments are outstanding.

We went to the Harmony at West Ashley. I liked everything about this place. It's clean. It has a lot of natural light, and it's very well-equipped. It's so full of attention from the people who work there. There are a lot of the facilities where people can gather together and play, including a movie theater. It is a very good one. The staff was very attentive. They did introduce us to every possible aspect of living there, and they discussed things with us. It was very good. It's very convenient to use everything and gives you a possibility for independent living. They have two libraries. They have two places for playing cards. They have courtyards. They have a bistro, and they have a salon. They have a lot of things for people living independently.

My parents will be moving to Harmony of West Ashley. The facility is very nice. It's pretty new, like four years old, and everything is good. My parents like the place, everything is clean and organized. One meal a day is included with the basic rent, and you can buy an additional meal if you want. The apartment has a full kitchen, so they're just going to do breakfast in their apartment and one meal should be good for them. They provide transportation to their doctors, a lot of activities, and transportation to shopping.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother lives at Harmony at West Ashley. I feel because the residents are elderly, they are not taken seriously and their needs often overlooked; one area involves food service. My mother pays a premium rent in order to have meals made for her. The food is absolutely disgusting. I went to a family event and literally could not eat the dinner served. I came home to eat later. They clearly cut costs with food using cheaper cuts of meat, no spice, using leftovers for the next day, etc. My mother described meatloaf as a hunk of dense meat with nothing else. The community there have tried and tried to get more quality in regards to food but to no response from administrators or corporate management. They just don’t care, which is a shame because the food was so good when this place first opened. Luckily she enjoys the people and some other social events. But food is a big part of all our lives and should be an important aspect especially to an elderly community who look forward to a good meal. They have had meeting upon meetings but nothing changes.

Provider Response

We are sorry to hear about your experience at our community. We would like to apologize and would appreciate the opportunity to learn more about your specific situation. Please email us when it is most convenient or let us know how we can connect with you. We look forward to hearing from you.

I am/was a resident of this facility

I'm in the independent living right now at Harmony at West Ashley, but I'll be moving into the assisted living at the end of this week. I like it enough that I am staying in the same place and just moving over to the assisted living from independent living. It's pretty active, and I like the other independent living people. I like everything except the food; it is horrible and continues to be. They have had a difficult time with the staff since the pandemic. They did not seem to before, but they do now. The professional people seem OK. The building is beautiful, gorgeous, and well kept. They have activities like regular exercises, scenic tours, card games, pool games, and happy hour twice a week, where they supply the alcohol. It is very different since the pandemic, but they still do activities -- they just don't do them in the same way.

We have moved my mother into Harmony at West Ashley. It's very good. The staff seems very nice. My mother is in memory care, so they're a little limited. Right now, because of the COVID, a lot of the activities are suspended. They do activities with them in the memory care unit every day, morning and afternoon, but they don't go out of the facility. They don't have a swimming pool, they do have a library, and they do have an exercise area. They have social areas but right now, they can't use those because of COVID. I haven't eaten their food, but my mother likes it. The dining area is nice. I can't get in there a lot but the staff members seem very caring and they call me when they need anything. They seem very appropriate.

Harmony at West Ashley is a new community. I like it a lot and my brother also likes it although it took a couple of weeks for him to get adjusted. It's very expensive, they just went up another $200 so I'm not happy about that because they've only been open a year and the price is already going up. But other than that, we're very happy with the community. With regards to the staff members and the care he is getting, I'm also happy with all of them. He has a private room with a bathroom. They take the residents on outings once a month, they have different classes they can do or outings they can go to, they also do arts and crafts. They have amenities like an activity room in the assisted living and not in the memory care. The only thing I was disappointed with was that they sold me saying that my brother could get to all of those amenities, but that's not really true. The memory care patients can't get in or out, so they can't access the amenities unless a nurse takes them in and out, which they don't really do.

Rooms are spacious, well designed and allow for adequate daylight. Several one and two bedroom floor plans are available HVAC maintains a comfortable environment. Kitchen and Laundry appliances are acceptable. Everyone on the Leadership Team and their assistants are without a doubt professional, warm, kind, helpful and willing to go the extra mile to keep the residents happy. The Dining Room Employees are helpful and pleasant. It is obvious that they love what they do, in spite of long hours and occasional week-ends. We consider our fellow residents to be the major attribute of Harmony at West Ashley. We have made more new friends than ever before in our lives. We couldn't have asked for a better group to live with. There are enough activities to please everyone, be it physical games, card games, fitness activities, intellectual discussion groups, book club, knitting group, art lessons, and flower arranging to name a few. There are weekly tours to points of interest close by, as well as shopping trips. There is a profession therapy group on site. We feel the only amenity missing is an indoor pool. The Activities Staff does an outstanding job arranging semi-monthly parties, both theme and celebration. Their daily (6 days a week) Happy Hour is a great way to get to know your neighbors and welcome new residents. We have made more new friends and stay involve.d in daily happenings Moving into Harmony Independent Living. was definitely one the best decisions we've made. Now our three sons will never have to decide "where are we going to put Mom & Dad"for their golden years. Barb and Ed

I'm really happy with them. It's very nice and very clean. I liked it a lot because it's the only place I know where the memory care residents interact with the assisted and independent residents. They have social events where they all get together. I like that they are very strict about not letting the residents go back to their rooms if they don't feel like eating or doing an activity. They try to make a point of having them out in the common area with everybody. The only thing I don't like is that they're understaffed. The caregivers that work there have to also do the laundry and get all the meals ready. They're really overworked. My mother's studio apartment is very large. It has two closets, beautiful bathrooms, it's very well equipped, and brand new. They have a separate activity area for the assisted and independent living. The memory care has an area that's completely locked down. They have a nice walking area with a little garden-like setting.

It is big, it's huge, and it's like a cruise ship. It's very nice, but it had long hallways, and I think elderly people like small settings. It's a nice place and I would recommend them to check it out. It just wasn't our cup of tea. The staff was really good, we looked at the dining area, and it was really nice.

I am/was a resident of this facility

It has assisted living, independent living, and memory care. I'm in independent and like it very much. I'm from that area and a lot of my friends were there. It's a beautiful place. It's important to have all the independent living residents together. At this place, it was supposed to be independent living totally, but it was not, so it's very frustrating. It's a new place and that's only been opened since August. I was very impressed with how they facilitated the evacuation because I used to do that and I know how difficult it is. They only offer one meal a day with your rent and that's lunch, but they do have a small area where they have soups and salads and happy hour every afternoon at 4. So far, the meals have been very good. I have a beautiful room with 10-foot ceilings, beautiful views, and sunrooms on one side and sun porches on the other. It's the biggest kitchen I've ever had, and each apartment has a washer and dryer.
