I was sincerely disappointed at the way we were treated. Less than 48 hrs before 24 hr care was to start, the community relations person requested that we pay for services in full by bank draft or a credit card. She received a deposit of almost one third of the full cost and the scheduler had sent the schedule for the week. Her explanation was she had a brain fog and they could not provide services unless I paid in full for the week. It was a breach of the contract and unprofessional. I was shocked because I had worked with Melinda for weeks to get everything in place. I am the primary caregiver for my mother and a breast cancer survivor who requested the services so I could address my healthcare needs. It is important that all parties have integrity in their speech and actions.

I’m very pleased with the caregivers from Visiting Angels. They come in for my parents three times a week, 8 hours a day. We’ve been working with them for about two weeks now.

I had to have a substitute care giver to come in while my regular one was away on family matters. I was assigned Regina from the North Charleston branch. This girl was excellent!! Proactive, hard worker, great listener..I’m paralyzed and alone so she listened great and worked hard. On time, not on the phone all the time, she wore her mask 100% of the time. Motivated me to get up and move. She needs a dollar or two an hour more at least. Im a former employer and if I had an employee that could wear my name on her uniform and represent me while not be supervised or watched over to produce my mission statement, I would make every effort to retain that employee and expand with her. Outstanding attitude as well, good agency, good job Ms Regina! Hooah!!

My in-laws have been taken care of by this company for the past several years. They are an awesome company and we have always been impressed with their caregivers. We do not live in the same city and I began noticing when we visited that my father-in-law who needed 24/7 care would have the same caregivers. That is a true testament that not only do they treat their clients well but also their employees. We love each and every one of them for their caring and compassion. He passed away this past spring and they were with him until the very end. I know they will be there for my mother-in-law if she still needs them. I wish my 93 yr old mother lived in Charleston because she would also be under this companies care!!

Charleston Home Care Resources
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Charleston:
Address: 5895 Core Road, Suite 419, North Charleston, SC 29406
Phone Number: (843) 554-2275
The Trident Area Agency on Aging is a nonprofit organization that is affiliated with the national Health in Aging Foundation. The aim of the Family Caregiver Support Program is to provide short-term respite care to seniors in the area to give caregivers a well-deserved break and assist them with care for the seniors in their homes. The system allows for at-home respite care, adult day programs and facility respite. The exact type of care offered depends on the needs of the caregiver and senior involved. There is no charge for using this program.

Phone Number: (843) 724-7311
The Charleston Parks and Recreation Department operates three senior centers located in the city of Charleston. The centers offer a range of recreational and social activities to seniors over the age of 50. Some of the centers provide hot meals on certain days to seniors taking part in activities. There is no charge for the majority of activities but some do charge a small fee to cover the basic costs of running the activity. Transport is available to the center for seniors who are unable to get to the centers on their own. Activities offered include fitness classes, pickleball games, arts and crafts, social events and computer classes.
Address: 259 Meeting Street, Charleston, SC 29401
Phone Number: (843) 722-4127
The Charleston segment of Meals on Wheels is run by Charleston Area Senior Citizens, which is a nonprofit organization that relies on donations and volunteers to assist seniors in the community. The Meals on Wheels program delivers a hot meal at lunchtime each day from Monday to Friday. The meals are designed to meet the nutritional needs of seniors and to ensure that homebound seniors are getting at least one healthy meal each day. The volunteer drivers check on the residents when delivering the meal and will let staff members know if they have any concerns. There is no charge for meals, but a donation is requested to help the organization to assist more seniors in the area.
Determining Your Loved One’s Need for In-Home Care
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – often times it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.
Guidelines for Talking About In-Home Care
If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
