I liked everything about Applewood Retirement Community. That's probably where I would have gone. The staff was really great. The studio was plenty big enough. There was no bedroom; it was all one big room. They showed me the dining room, but I didn't stay to eat anything. They had kind of a backyard, and it was good enough. The facility was well maintained.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My brother is a resident of Applewood Retirement Community. The employees are very friendly, and that makes him more comfortable, because he has mental issues. He likes the employees. It always takes him a little time to adjust, but I think he's adjusted pretty well. The community seems adequate, and their upkeep is OK. My brother had a little trouble knowing how much housekeeping was involved. They were supposed to come once a week, and he wasn't sure when they were coming or how often, so there was a little communication gap, but I think they've been OK. The room always seems neat enough when we go to see him. There wasn't a lot of lighting, and we added lighting. There's maybe enough space. They have a dining room. It seems adequate, and they have tables for four or five people. It was spacious. We had kind of a rough start. When we first got him in there, we were late with an appointment. They apparently had a crisis before we got there, so there was nobody to greet or help us when we got there, but they did finally get to us and we got everything done the way we needed to for my brother. My brother has a kitchenette, a couple of large closets, and bathroom. They have older buildings. I think they do very good for what they're trying to work with, price range, and that sort of thing. They have a Bible study group once a week and have quite a few activities.

I'm at Applewood Retirement Community. My overall experience has been good. I like the meals. My room is fine. Upkeep and maintenance have been fine so far. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have laundry available that's free. They've got wi-fi available for an extra charge and cable TV. The dining area and the outdoor spaces are fine.

I visited this facility

We toured Applewood Retirement Community. They provide their meals and housekeeping and things like that. I don't think there's anything I don't like about it. I love the scenery outside with all the plants, trees, and flowers. I love the fact that they have a 24-hour-a-day coffee bar. We got to see one of the apartments, and I like the layout of it. It's a one-bedroom apartment with a bathroom. It's all accessible for people in wheelchairs. I like that a lot. The staff was very helpful in describing what they had. Like outside, she was telling us about how some of the women would come out and do a little gardening, so there were little bits of flowers in there that they planted. She was very helpful with describing what their meals were like. In the apartment, she was telling us some people like to take away the closet doors so that they have room for the wheelchair so it's not in the way. She was a very nice person. She was very friendly and very helpful. The place was very clean. It wasn't dirty. There wasn't any stuff left on the tables or anything like that. It was very nice and very spacious, too.

I think the price that Applewood Retirement Community offers, kind of says it all. It was kind of dark, so the facility could use some work. The people were nice though, which is always an important piece. They have a relatively small recreation room, where there's a shuffleboard table, a TV, puzzles, and some other games. They offer transportation during the week. It was a quiet facility. I saw maybe three folks. It reminded me more of a nursing home than a retirement center. It was carpeted, which to me is not not the best thing for seniors with wheelchairs, and it's hard to clean.

I liked Applewood Retirement Community except I didn't like the location. It wasn't a comfortable location for me being right on Lancaster Drive and fairly close to a prison. They didn't have an all-inclusive courtyard, and the building is a little bit older. I wasn't impressed with the staff. The staff who took me around was okay. She was just a regular employee; it wasn't the director or anything. She was just someone who worked there. She was very nice though. They got a kitchenette and a microwave in the apartment.

I like Applewood Retirement Community. That was my first choice. It was nice, it was small, and I liked that. The people there were nice. The people that live there seemed happy. The staff who gave me the tour were very nice. They were very polite. However, it's hard to get back a hold of them as far as communication. They don't return calls. The rooms were a good size and clean. They weren't anything super special, but they were nice. The dining area was nice. It looked like everybody was happy with what was going on or whatever. They had a little TV room, a library room with a computer, and an elevator. They had a back patio that they had been working on in the last year. It wasn't very big. Then they had an area they said was a garden area, but it was still winter, so they hadn't done anything to it. I liked that it wasn't like a huge place. It was more like a small family unit. Everybody was getting their needs met because it was simple and small. It's an older building but they kept it clean.

I went and toured Applewood Retirement Community. The tour was okay. The lady was very informative. The facility wasn't assisted living and my mom needs assisted living, so it didn't suit my mom's needs. It is a nice-looking facility. The room looked nice, the dining room looked nice, and the girl was pretty helpful. However, they don't offer the services there that my mother needed. They're self-sufficient. If you need help with a bath or something, they have a service where you can pay to have somebody come in and bath you maybe once a week or so. But my mom needed help with a lot of other things like her meds and stuff like that. They don't do meds there, you have to do your own, but my mom needs somebody to manage her meds for her. We also didn't get into their activities when we found out that they were independent care; I didn't want to waste any more of their time. The atmosphere seemed pleasant. I think my mom would have liked it if it was a fit for her, but it wasn't a fit for her needs. Other than that, it was a nice place. The staff was knowledgeable.

I toured Applewood Retirement Community. The facility seemed nice, and the people were very nice. Sarah was the one that gave us the tour. She was expecting us and was ready to go when we got there. We met the front office person, and we also met a couple of the aides that were working around. They were doing cleaning, and one of the others was doing the decorating. The rooms were fine. I was surprised it was quiet inside because Lancaster Drive is a very busy street. You don't have much of the view there because it's in a busy area, and there areother buildings right up close to it. But the rooms were fine; it's either a studio or 1-bedroom. When you move into someplace, you decorate it in your own fashion, so they were okay. It was after lunchtime when we were there, so we did not try the food. We got a menu to look over what they offer, what times or throughout the day, and I didn't know if it was a week or a month menu there. They had a library in there, and they had a section of a bookcase that was honoring the seven veterans that live there. In the library, they also reset the chairs and things when they have a church service in that area. I know there was some exercise equipment.

My visit to Applewood Retirement Community was wonderful. The staff couldn't have been nicer. They were so helpful. Honestly, this is my first choice, but just financially, I don't know how to quite make it work. Although, financially for them it was very reasonable. It was probably the most affordable place that I was able to find. I think my mom would love it. I just can't really say enough about the staff, too. They were amazing. I didn't try the food, but they had a great menu, and then they had alternatives, which I thought was so cool. If a resident really didn't like what the option for the meal was, they had a list of alternate things that they could have instead. The facility was clean, nicely laid out, and it felt homey. They had a nice layout and nice decorations. It felt welcoming. I got to see a studio and a room. The way the rooms were set up was really nice. They actually had two closets and some extra space for keeping things. There was a laundry room, and the game room was really nice. There was a little living room, a walk that goes around the whole complex and it's trees, and a nice outdoor area that's got sort of big benches, tables, and chairs.

Applewood Retirement Community was nice. I was looking for a one-bedroom apartment, but they only had a studio available for the price that I could afford. The one-bedroom apartment has a waiting list and costs higher than a studio, but I could not live in that. The one-bedroom was nice and clean. The person who toured me was very, very nice. When I asked her why there was such a difference between a studio and a one bedroom, she really couldn't give me an answer for that. They had the basic amenities that all of these places have, like activity rooms, rooms where you can exercise, and libraries. The building was much, much older, which I'm not terribly fond of; it needs to be renovated. It was probably from the 1980s. It's kind of a long ways away. There's a car dealership right next door. It's on a very, very busy street, so location was not good for me.

My mom and I visited Applewood Retirement Community, but my mom did not like the traffic at Lancaster. She also said it was like an imprisonment scenario because there was not a lot there that she was impressed with. She felt that it was more like "I-am-going-to-drop-mom-and-forget-mom" kind of thing. The location had a lot to do with it. My mom said it was close to the traffic, and too close to the city and the views were not good for her. She did not like the views on the windows. The staff were really nice, helpful, and courteous. They seem pretty good. The rooms were fine at least what I saw of it. She said she won't live there as it is close to the main road, and it is too noisy. My mother is not a city girl at all. That is a strike from the get-go. They seem pretty across the board with other places that we are visiting in, that they offer plenty for the residents to do. The building itself seemed to be fine.

The staff at Applewood Retirement Community has been really good. I've heard nothing but good on the food. The dining area is nice and comfortable. My mother has a studio apartment. It could be a little bigger, but it's all good. They have occasional parties for holidays, card games, game day, and they go places. It's an older building, but it's very clean. It's one of the more affordable ones around. You don't have to pay cable, and all I'm paying is phone as far as utilities.

We went to Applewood Retirement Community. Everybody seemed very nice, the staff was very nice, very helpful, and seemed to be very supportive of everybody there. They had us eat lunch, it was fine, and everything was very good. Lancaster street was quite busy, and the area was not quite as nice. The apartments were either looking out over a dumpster, or a bunch of old cars, and it wasn't a very good view. However, the prices were reasonable, and it was very clean inside.

Applewood is a two story building with 60 apartments. There's nothing fancy about it, but the apartments are a good size and the staff is friendly. The dining area is a big room and the food is good. Once in a while there's a bad meal, but you have mostly better meals. There are activities going on all the time, they have medical and shopping transportation, they take you out to eat at different restaurants during the week, and they take you to a casino once a month. They also have all kinds of games inside like Bingo and so on. It's very active. We also go over to different retirement communities and play bean-bag baseball.

I have been at Applewood for three years and I like it very much. We are like one big family and we care for each other. We have church once or twice every Sunday. The meals are very good, they're planned out every week. We also have a variety of activities every week. The staff is very helpful and the housekeepers are very good.

My grandmother is in Applewood. She toured many places before deciding that it was the place for her. It appears very clean and very animal friendly; several people have puppies and dogs, and they have a bird cage with a bird in it. It is spacious in the common areas. They have chairs outside, a dining area, and a reading room. It is really nice. In the dining area, there is access to a machine that provides juices, coffe,e and tea, which is nice. My grandma is in a studio with a mini-refrigerator, a microwave, and a sink in the living area as well as in the bathroom area. They go once a month to places like casinos or they take them out to lunch or dinner. If she wants to add someone to dinner, it is $5 to add a guest for meals.

Applewood was all right. The apartments were very nice. The food was excellent. The staff was very nice. The price was all right. I thought they needed to improve on their team work. They had activities everyday. It was a nice facility. The people that lived there were nice. The security was good. The doors were locked on certain time, and you could not go in and out.

The tour of Applewood was fine, it was clean, and the atmosphere was too warm for us. The facilities were neat and clean, and they were very nice to us. They were at full capacity, so we saw a room that had people in it. The room was a generous size; the bedroom was bigger than most, and the living room was adequate size. The dining area looked very comfortable, but the residents sit at the same table day after day.

I felt Applewood looked and felt old. I wasn’t pleased with the small rooms. I saw the dining room area, one room, and the activities room, and that was really about it. The staff didn’t really seem that interested and maybe that was because I didn’t seem that interested. I won’t blame it all on them because I still wasn’t ready to give up independent living. Most of the residents looked content, but they did not look as happy and go-lucky as they are at the other facility I visited.

I was really impressed with Applewood. It was an older facility, but it was very nice, clean and comfortable. I think the apartments and rooms were big. I visited Applewood. It had nice little apartments upstairs, and they had an elevator going up to it. You could have all your furniture and stuff in there. It was a nice place. They had three meals a day, and you had to go down on scheduled time. The food looked fine. It was worth what you pay for.

My mother was at Applewood for two weeks. It was a very clean place. The people that work there were very caring. The meals were better than I expected actually. The staff was very nice, and they knew what they were doing because we had extra care for my mom. Her room was clean; the whole place was clean. I was very pleased with Applewood.

My dad seems really happy with the Sapphire at Applewood. I think he likes this one the best. I think he likes the staff and the way he is able to do the things that he wants to do. They seem really anxious to please, and he really appreciates that. He is in a studio apartment. I know it is kind of small, but he seems to be getting by pretty well. They take the residents to different places like the grocery store.
