He had a stroke and they had worked with him in therapy and he was happy that I was happy. I would recommend this facility for anybody that's needing a nursing home. They're very caring, efficient, knowledgeable and skilled. My husband was real critical about most things, but he liked it there. "

"My friend is now at Independence Health and Rehabilitation Center. So far from what I have seen, they seem to be really good. The physical therapy portion of their operation is very good. My friend tells me that they are working him hard, and already there is improvement in his state of mind and his physical ability. I haven't eaten there, but he says the food is pretty good. He has his own room, but there is another person in his room, but it is set up so that it is kind of comfortable. He has his own dresser and furniture stuff in there. My friend seems to be involved in things that go on there. He has only been there for just a couple of weeks, but I know they're having a big Easter thing there at the community. "

"Dallas Retirement Village is a very nice place. They have a nice dining room. The staff is very nice. I didn’t have any complaints about them. They have meeting or visiting rooms. I like the place."

"Marian Estates was a very nice facility. I had a meal there, and it was very good. The staff was accommodating and the units were very spacious. The grounds were beautiful. Everybody seemed very warm and friendly there. It's much more affordable than the other place we looked at."

"Hillside was where my friend's going to go, but it's extremely difficult to get in because they have a waiting list. It was beautiful and there was a garden around it. From every window, you can see beautiful grass, shrubs, and flowers. It was very clean. They have a little bistro and an outside area where the chef cooks. It's on a hill and it has elevators for different parts of the services. The bistro is down the hill and residents can go eat there and that would be part of their food bill. They have everything. You can buy-in for a little house and then as your situation changes, you can go into an apartment, or you can go into different kinds of care, and because you bought in, you get first dibs on whatever you need. It's marvelous. All the people I talked with gave it the highest recommendation."

"My loved one went to rehab at Life Care Center of Mcminnville. The appearance was good, but he did not like the food there. It didn't smell of urine and it was nice. It was one level with the different halls. He liked some of the staff. It wasn't a huge rehab center. It had bars. His legs seemed to get stronger. They wanted him to be able to use the bathroom himself and use the walker before he went home. There were no activities. Everybody was in their bed. It was clean and the layout was OK."

"I stayed at Marquis last year after my knee replacement and I have to say that the staff there is wonderful. The therapy team was so great and I would go back in a heartbeat if I needed to in the future. I was lucky to have a private room and that helped with the noise that comes with places like this."

"Did not receive walker shortly after arriving, nor the entire first day, as required. Did not receive required antibiotic for ongoing infection the first day . Other person in room is young woman disabled and unable to do any self care. Pushed call button for help. After an hour of waiting started loudly calling out for help please....many times. I got up withoutassistive device and went to hall to find someone to help. Found one down the hall and explained. The said they were very busy with many lights and to tell her to just go in the bed and they'd change her bed later. Another 15 minutes I started banging on the wall as heard a group of women laughing and talking outside the door. On finally came in and yelled at me, saying I was scaring people. More conversation that was extremely rude on her part. Another person came in and yelled at me . A totally horrid first day experience!! Now to get out of here tomorrow. Not sure how I'll obtain needed rehab. Run fast and far if ever recommended to one here!!"

"Friendsview is a community of retired folks living in Newberg, Oregon. It is a continuing care community which has a Health Center for those needing care beyond what is provided in the regular housing. It has a large building which houses most of the people living there plus other housing including two different duplex complexes for those who want to live in housing that is more like ones own home. The financial structure consists of an entrance fee and monthly fees which vary depending on the kind of facility one chooses to occupy. It is important to know that the entrance fee is non-refundable after living there for more than a year. One may, if they choose, move out, but the entrance fee will not be re-funded. Meals are provided in the main building which are paid for in the monthly fee, those in duplexes aren't on the meal plan but may purchase individual meals in the dinning room with reservations. Other costs when living in a duplex are gas/heating bills, electric bills, phone bills, and other incidental costs. The lawn and other areas are maintained by contracted services as are the needs experienced when living in the facilities, like lighting or repair of plumbing, etc. Laundry facilities are available for those who live in the "high-rise" and washer/dryer are found in the duplexes. A number of activities are available including weekly religious services, activities of several kinds, classes, recreational activities, bus service to local stores and trips to other places of interest locally and in the greater region. The staff maintains the book keeping and the collection of fees and provides information when requested. There is a group gathering periodically for all residents to inform them of things that are of interest and importance to them and to give them voice for their concerns. These are then taken to the governing board for their understanding and information. Most of the residents find Friendsview a good place to live and enjoy the opportunities that are available to them. When wanting to get more information it is important to record all the questions you want to have answered and to be ready to ask others that come to mind. It's important to inquire about any aspect of potential residency and to not be satisfied with vague answers or those which fail to fully answer the questions asked. "

"We found Hope Village in Canby, OR and put money down on it, but it has a long waiting list. It has assisted living and a nursing home, each run by different groups of people. They’re nice little homes. You pay $500 or $600 a month for taxes, and you don’t have to do any hard work if something breaks; they take care of everything, and you don’t have to worry about getting service people to do the work that you can’t do. Where we are now, we’re hiring to get everything done. I’ve been researching and this place is like a halfway point where you can still pretty much take care of yourself. You’re in a community where they have services and buses to take you places or to your doctor. It’s that expensive as far as you buy the house and get part of your money back. The houses are really cute; they’re light, contemporary, and not too big. It’s in our income bracket and very well kept, clean, and very well run. "

"My experience with the Marquis Wilsonville has been very positive. All the people there are extremely respectful to each individual resident and to their family members. They try to engage each resident to an extent that is welcoming and responsive without being pushy. Family caregivers need to know that their loved ones are not in prison, nor should be. This is not the old days where those with dementia and/or motor skill challenges were misunderstood and rigidly confined. My experience with my husband who has an early onset degenerative brain disease, is that his quality of life is directly related to feeling like a whole person and treated as if he has some semblance of independence. The Marquis does a wonderful job ensuring this, while doing the best they can to look after his care. If people are looking for a 24-hour observation & nursing care facility, their loved one probably needs to be in a hospital or designated full-time nursing home (or hospice if end-of life is anticipated). There are no guarantees in life; the best this caregiver (me) can do is work to find a place that provides the best fit for my husband's nature and condition. It is not inexpensive. Neither is it an elder-care country club for those with unlimited resources, which may not even be suitable to the individual's personality. However, it is clearly the best local fit for our situation at this time. What the Marquis Wilsonville does, it does very well! I am very grateful for the respite for me, and the quality of non-obtrusive yet attentive care and sense of dignity they provide my husband. Thank you one and all! "
