My relative contracted lice while they were there. When myself & another relative arrived for a visit, there wasn't any posting on the closed door stating to check at the nurse's station before entering. Instead, there was a cart to the side of her door with little information on it to my relatives situation. I only noticed the cart when we departed. I was very annoyed to their lack of concern for the spread of this lice & for not notifying any family member to my relative's situation. Very poor communication skills, lack of leadership & protocols!!!

Physical Therapy discharged me, saying I was not a fall risk according to 2 separate 1-second tests, and was independent in walking without assistive devices, after stumbling both inside and outdoors. The nurse said he would change my wound bandage at a certain time, but arrived 1 and a half hours late, leaving my bandage soaking wet and partially hanging off of me after a shower, and causing me to have to take more pain medicine. Wait times vary from a few minutes to over an hour. I waited over an hour to get medication.

I felt Oakwood was not a good place. The outside was really nice, and it had a really nice country feel, away from the town. However, when you go inside, there are hallways, and you would have to find out which hallway your loved one is down and follow the hallway. When you get into the area, there is a nursing station, then there are rooms one after another. The residents basically stayed in their rooms. There was no place for them to go out and about in the community with other people. My dad was in a small room with a hospital bed, and none of his own belongings were there. It was just plain, nothing special. He was there for about a week, or about 4-5 days, and we pulled him out of there and took him back home. They could improve probably by getting more involved with the residents, taking them out of their rooms, and doing things with them so they won't be in their rooms all the time.

I stayed at Oakwood for 20 days because I had a bad infection. The staffing was fantastic although the food was institutionalized and it's kind of expensive. For a while they thought I would live there permanently and they told me that they would take social security. They have busses and they go out. They have exercise rooms. They had 24-hour staffing. The room was for two people, but I was the only person in the room. The residents who are there permanently have their own room and they can decorate it any way they want. The thing that was kind of off is when they said they take off all my social security and that's a no-no. They had doctors on call; two doctors on duty 24 hours a day. They have RNs, LPNs, and CNA.
