"Friendsview is a community of retired folks living in Newberg, Oregon. It is a continuing care community which has a Health Center for those needing care beyond what is provided in the regular housing. It has a large building which houses most of the people living there plus other housing including two different duplex complexes for those who want to live in housing that is more like ones own home. The financial structure consists of an entrance fee and monthly fees which vary depending on the kind of facility one chooses to occupy. It is important to know that the entrance fee is non-refundable after living there for more than a year. One may, if they choose, move out, but the entrance fee will not be re-funded. Meals are provided in the main building which are paid for in the monthly fee, those in duplexes aren't on the meal plan but may purchase individual meals in the dinning room with reservations. Other costs when living in a duplex are gas/heating bills, electric bills, phone bills, and other incidental costs. The lawn and other areas are maintained by contracted services as are the needs experienced when living in the facilities, like lighting or repair of plumbing, etc. Laundry facilities are available for those who live in the "high-rise" and washer/dryer are found in the duplexes. A number of activities are available including weekly religious services, activities of several kinds, classes, recreational activities, bus service to local stores and trips to other places of interest locally and in the greater region. The staff maintains the book keeping and the collection of fees and provides information when requested. There is a group gathering periodically for all residents to inform them of things that are of interest and importance to them and to give them voice for their concerns. These are then taken to the governing board for their understanding and information. Most of the residents find Friendsview a good place to live and enjoy the opportunities that are available to them. When wanting to get more information it is important to record all the questions you want to have answered and to be ready to ask others that come to mind. It's important to inquire about any aspect of potential residency and to not be satisfied with vague answers or those which fail to fully answer the questions asked. "

"Did not receive walker shortly after arriving, nor the entire first day, as required. Did not receive required antibiotic for ongoing infection the first day . Other person in room is young woman disabled and unable to do any self care. Pushed call button for help. After an hour of waiting started loudly calling out for help please....many times. I got up withoutassistive device and went to hall to find someone to help. Found one down the hall and explained. The said they were very busy with many lights and to tell her to just go in the bed and they'd change her bed later. Another 15 minutes I started banging on the wall as heard a group of women laughing and talking outside the door. On finally came in and yelled at me, saying I was scaring people. More conversation that was extremely rude on her part. Another person came in and yelled at me . A totally horrid first day experience!! Now to get out of here tomorrow. Not sure how I'll obtain needed rehab. Run fast and far if ever recommended to one here!!"

"Avamere seemed to have a lot of people that were mindful. The staff seemed to be very, very caring, and they love my cousin. We have no complaints in that area, but I think they need to improve their rooms. It should be more personable. I think they should be less drab. There is no color, and there is no life in there other than the people living there. "

"Marquis Newberg is a fairly new building. It's lovely, it's clean as you walk in, and it doesn't smell. The person during the tour was wonderful and helpful. If we couldn't get in to the other place, my friend was going to go there."

"The staff at Marquis Autumn Hills is very nice and friendly, and I think they did their job well. My dad was in a double occupancy room, there was a divider between the two people, and he had a bed and a bathroom. You could bring in your own furniture and TV, which is what we did. They had some sing-alongs, a music room, a TV room, and a place where they could be outside. They had fresh cookies in the afternoon, and sometimes they had ice cream. It was very secure -- keypad protected -- and they didn’t make the passwords known to the residents. They couldn’t leave, which is really nice. "

"We are in the process of finding residential nursing care for my Mother-in-Law which will be needed soon. We have visited Robison center twice and are very impressed. The facility and grounds are beautiful and everything is maintained beautifully; far nicer than nearly any we've visited. The rooms are sizable and nicely decorated. The synagogue is beautiful and comforting. I met one of the Rabbis and loved him immediately, as did my Mother in Law. The staff is warm and kind - everyone we encountered has been great. This is a very difficult decision to make, and we have been hesitant to move her into nursing care. We have chosen to place her here when the time comes, and after the time I've spend there, I feel much better about making this step. I truly believe she will be happy there, and I am sure this is the best decision for everyone, especially her. "

"We have used the services of this facility many times, it is my first choice of places to go. Our rooms have always been clean, the views magnificent. We found the staff members to be very helpful. They tend to be a bit short-handed so sometimes you might have to ask for things or remind them but they are good about it. They allowed me to stay past visiting hours to be with my husband and to help him, this was nice because he had dimentia and often had the most confusion at night. There were always a variety of activities to take part in; singing, games, exercises with balloons, art, etc., all sorts of fun things. The food was very good too. When there were things that we didn't like, most of the time we could ask for and get substitutions. For a small price I could eat with my husband. This is a really special place."

"Marquis Tualatin is an older facility, but it's kept up very well. I was visiting a friend who is there, and she says the staff members are very, very good and very helpful. She requires quite a bit of care, and she is very happy with the facility. They have snacks available 24/7. They offer juice, cookies, and fruits. I had a diabetic episode while I was there, so I had to eat something, and immediately they brought me some juice and some cookies. They were very efficient."

"My dad is in Avamere. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The food is fine. They have bus rides, tours, and they take them shopping. They also have movies. "

"Overall, I was very impressed with the care provided by the staff at The Pearl. They were not only caring and attentive, but also very cordial. They treated visitors with the same hospitality given to the residents. My father in law was in Hospice, so he had many visitors (both from nearby and far away), and each and everyone was welcomed each visit. The facility provided a nice break room for the patients and visitors to spend time together outside of the patient's room. There was a fireplace and many activities for people of all ages. Staff members allowed an appropriate amount of privacy to each patient while still maintaining adequate levels of attention to patients needs. The facility also offered enclosed patio and sidewalk space for patients and guests to enjoy the outdoors. In fact one of my fondest memories is pushing my father in around outdoors and seeing the joy he felt at the opportunity to be outdoors. While this is my only experience with assisted living facilities, I cannot think of a negative thing to say about The Pearl, it more than exceeded my expectations. "

"My loved one went to rehab at Life Care Center of Mcminnville. The appearance was good, but he did not like the food there. It didn't smell of urine and it was nice. It was one level with the different halls. He liked some of the staff. It wasn't a huge rehab center. It had bars. His legs seemed to get stronger. They wanted him to be able to use the bathroom himself and use the walker before he went home. There were no activities. Everybody was in their bed. It was clean and the layout was OK."

"I was recently a resident at Marquis Piedmont recovering from a broken hip. My experience was excellent. The staff, from proffesionals to housekeeping, was friendly and caring. The food was unexpectadly good. I would recommend , without reservattion, Marqis Piedmont, to anyone requiring compassionate and proffesional care in their recovery. "

"My first choice would have been Marquis. I really liked their director. She had an all around holistic approach that I appreciate. It would have been a good place. The building wasn’t as new. The rooms were smaller and darker; but what I liked best about them was their care approach, and the staff’s attitude. "

"We have found a place for my parents. They have been there since September. Hillside is a newer and cleaner facility that's why we chose this. My parents have a brand new one-bedroom with a den. It is freshly painted with brand new carpeting. They would receive one meal a day and they can choose either lunch or dinner. They have menus for them that they could choose from. I have not tasted the food, but my parents are very particular so I would know if it wasn't good; I would be hearing about it. My dad is 90 and mom is 89 so they're not really active, but there are a lot of things going on in there. They do go to the senior center, which is not associated with the retirement center. They go there every Wednesday to play cribbage. They also have some speakers and some different things at the community. Dad was falling quite often at home, so the best thing about this place is that they have a life alert button and there's people there that are around them so if he falls, they could get help for him right away. Their staff has been wonderful. Also my parents are social, so in this community, they have neighbors that they would like to sit with at dinner and visit with and all of that is really good for them. "
