I toured The Ackerly at Reed's Crossing. It's very calm. It isn't busy. It's a very nice community. Everybody's got a smile on their face. I asked a woman, "What is your opinion? How long have you been here?" And she had been there about six months. She said it's a good place. The people are good to you. There have been a couple of emergencies, and they have handled them. Everybody is just right there for you. They've invited us to the theme party. The food is amazing. I would have a kitchen that I wouldn't have to go downstairs all the time. I can cook. I can stand up at the stove and cook, but I'm mostly in a wheelchair. It's amazing. Everybody's enjoying their dinner. There are just all sorts of things. In fact, someone told me that there was an 82-year-old person there who wanted to skydive, so they arranged it. He went skydiving at 82. So, they are all for the residents. It is animal-friendly, too. Dogs are everywhere, and the kitties aren't allowed out of the apartment, but there are areas for dogs to run and walk. The area is safe to be out and about walking. So, they have a lot of activities. They have fire doors everywhere, and the apartments are adorable. I will have everything I would want in my apartment, plus a balcony, so it fits.

We toured The Ackerly at Reed's Crossing. It was a brand new one. But we currently live in a golf course, so we're used to the open spaces. The Ackerly at Reed's Crossing felt very closed in because there were a lot of little shops around the building. There's intermediate care or whatever is right there, so it's all encircled with stores and so on, which would be nice for people that would appreciate that. But I felt like I was living in downtown Portland, it's very metropolitan, and it felt crowded there for me. It was new and beautiful, everybody was friendly, and there were a lot of things that were accessible for people, but not for us personally. The staff who toured me was very nice. She did a good job. The place seemed to have limited things. It's not quite as big or active as some of the others. It's all very clean and stuff. But it doesn't seem like there were a lot of things going on. There were no people around, so it's hard to say.

My parents moved into The Ackerly at Reed's Crossing. It's got all the things that they need. It's got a full kitchen, a bedroom for my dad, and a washer and dryer. They're taking good care of my mom. The food is not high on their priority list, but they just eat it. There's a lot of stuff going on. My mom is bedbound, though. We use the Hoyer lift and get her out as often as we can. The staff members are very nice. It's a little expensive, but they don't do that much. They don't get my mom out of bed. We have home health come in, bathe her, change her catheter, and do physical therapy once a week. The facility is very clean. They have housekeeping once a week. The place is brand new and very modern. They have a piano, a guy that comes every week and plays music, an indoor and outdoor pool, a theater, and a game room. It's a very nice place. My parents have one bedroom right in the courtyard, so it's nice.

We're at the Ackerly at Reed's Crossing. We've been very happy here. The staff is really wonderful. That's actually the best feature of the facility. The staff is young, veracious, caring, and friendly. They've been really great. They've got puzzles, billiards, bocce, they do tours, and they've got interest groups. It's a pretty complete calendar. They serve meals and the food is good. We have facilities to cook in our apartment, so we can either cook or go down to dinner. The meals have been very good. They have a gym, a library, meeting rooms, and a billiards room. They've got a lot of facilities. They have transportation. They have handyman services to help with odd jobs around the apartment. In our case, right now, we are putting in some new furniture, and they have people who help do that for you. We have a two-bedroom with two showers, there's no bath, but for the two of us it's a pretty good-sized apartment.
