My dad moved into HOLI Senior Living's memory care a few weeks ago. We want him to be in assisted living but because he's had a couple of escape attempts at his last place, they wanted to give him a 30-day trial to make sure he wouldn't try to get out. We chose this facility for its location near our homes, it's a mile away from me and my brother. The director and the head staff are all very, very good with communication between the family and the center. Just the other day I said my dad said his throat hurts, and they immediately went to go check up on him. They're just very good at communicating. They're very good at helping counsel family members that are still learning how to deal with this whole dementia thing so they're really good. They aren't counselors, but they definitely know what they're doing so they share their experiences with us. I've heard that they have activities but I don't know what they are because my dad does not want to participate in any of them. Their assisted living portion is nice. I would live there. The memory care is on a different wing and it's locked so that they can't get out. It's not decorated so it looks, by comparison, drab and dull, and depressing. I don't want him down there. I want him up in a nice place. However, the front door is not locked in the assisted living side so if you have attempted to escape, assisted living would not be good because of the front door since you can come and go there. He is enough gone with dementia that he cannot leave because if he did, he'll wander around the freeway looking for the airport so that he can get home to see his wife. I have nothing but good things to say about assisted living upstairs and I don't really care for their memory care, but they are taking very good care of my dad there. I just don't like the look of it. I have tried their food because they had an open house and it was good. What's even better is my dad is also saying it's very good and that's saying something because he's picky.
