Beautiful facility but a-lot of staff turn over. Have to visit often to make sure basics are taken care of. Nice programs but small outside areas. Hard to break into the community.

My mother moved into a 1 bedroom apartment at Canfield a month ago, and couldn’t be happier! The staff is very nice and accommodating. There are fun activities planned everyday, and the food is wonderful! She has made lots of new friends and was able to bring her cat - a huge selling point:)

I visited this facility

I visited Canfield Place, and I find it open and bright. It was welcoming. The staff was very professional, and also very patient. We didn't feel rushed. They were willing to answer every question and fill in all the blanks we had. Many people walking around and getting ready to attend a class that was offered. In the one public room, they were watching an exercise program on the TV. It was kind of quiet otherwise.

Canfield Place was very nice. I was very impressed with it. They showed me a studio with an alcove and it was their guest studio for respite care, and it was pretty nice and furnished. The place was clean, spacious, and laid out really nice. The staff was friendly. The dining room was nice. It had a little area where they show movies and big sports events. They have activity people and groups who come in periodically for entertainment. I didn't eat there, but there are a good amount of choices on the menu.

Canfield Place's staff is great. I love the feel of the place. It's not too big or too small. They really bend over backwards to make sure there's a lot of social things for people to do there like exercise. My friend has a bridge group and they were more than willing to give us a place to meet and play bridge, and we were able to have a couple of the residents join in too so it’s very nice. It's very accommodating. They also had some guys in a band that were singing some old songs one day, and a trivia game going on. My friend had her hair and nails done on their second floor which is another nice thing. Laundry is good which is right on the main floor, and the parking is good. I hear the food is good and the dining room is lovely.

I took a tour of Canfield Place; it's extremely clean and very professionally run. I was very impressed with the person who led me on the tour. They were very knowledgeable and very helpful. However, they only offered assisted living, and I did not feel comfortable with that. It looks like a big house in the neighborhood. It was very park-like, serene quiet, and lovely. It was very easy to get to. There was a group of residents who seemed very engaged in an activity and enjoyed themselves.

I liked Canfield Place. I might want to move there eventually. They showed me one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments that were both very nice and very inviting. They had nice people there. The staff member answered all of our questions and gave me additional information, which was very useful. In fact, they went one step further and invited me to stay for dinner. The food was good, and the service was excellent. They wouldn't take a tip when I offered.

I visited Canfield Place. It’s Leisure Care community. They did not have a space for Mom, but I would give them a 5 from what I saw. Just in general, I like their program, and I like the facility. It was clean, and it was bright. The staff interacting with the residents -- I like the way that they talked with people. They didn’t talk down to them. They cared about them.

Canfield Place didn't have any kitchens in the apartments and provided three meals a day, and we are not quite looking for that. We still travel and are able to get around. However, we really liked the gal who talked to us. She said we might want to go into independent living and come back when we need assisted living. She was so knowledgeable and had more information for us. The grounds were gorgeous and beautiful. I really liked that.

My mom’s in Canfield Place. It’s like walking into a circus in that it's very bright, cheery, and nice. She has a large studio that works just fine for her. The price was more than reasonable when compared to everywhere else. There are all sorts of activities on their schedule, like music a few times a week, Bingo, card playing, wheel of fortune, and trips by bus to various places. The dining area is wonderful and the food is very good. We've all eaten there a couple of times. They also have a bistro, so if you happen to miss the meal time, there’s always food available.

Canfield Place was nice. Their exterior grounds, and the gardens were beautiful. It is really good for somebody who has slowed down considerably and who needs higher level of care. My father-in-law is extremely active, so he didn't need to be monitored as closely as what they do there. So for somebody who needs close monitoring, Canfield Place a really good place.

The staff was outstanding at Canfield Place. They welcomed my dad and answered all his questions. He's got dementia, and they were very patient. And anytime I went in, they knew me, they were smiling, and I could go in anytime of day or night; there was never any questions. The rooms were very nice. The studio my dad had held everything, it was ample for what he needed, the one-bedrooms were very nice, and the housekeeping staff was outstanding. When I ate there, it was fine. My dad wasn't particularly fond of the food, but my dad is extremely picky. Unfortunately, he likes fried food, and they had very nutritious, healthy meals; he just didn't like that he couldn't have his fried potatoes when he wanted it. The dining area was beautiful; it was like a restaurant. The security was great. The front desk people were right there as you walked in, you need to sign in, they do pay attention to who's coming and going, and in the off-hours as soon as the place is shut down, you have to ring a buzzer to get in. They seemed to have organized activities that they do. They have an activity director that comes in and goes, but they do have a personal trainer and a small amount of athletic or cardio equipment like a treadmill and stuff like that. There was no pool or anything; it was more of a place for people that if they wanted to walk, they walk the hall so they go through to the outside. It's not a place where they had a lot of walking grounds or anything like that. They try to engage their residents and get them active -- even my dad. He was a loner, and he didn't really want to participate, but they really worked hard in getting him to engage in activities.

My Mother moved to Canfield in November 2012 and I and my siblings (6 brothers and sisters) have been absolutely thrilled with the property, amenities, and especially the staff. The management staff is professional and the caregivers have been most kind and gracious. In late May 2013 Mom's sister (our aunt) who had been visiting Mom often, decided to sell her home and move into Canfield herself. Mom is 96 and our Aunt is 94 and the family is feeling much better now that they are in a safe environment. Both were living in their own homes previously.

My mother and aunt are currently residents at Canfield Place. Our family has been extremely pleased with the quality of individual care, both medical and emotional. Canfield offers excellent activity options. The staff is responsive and professional.

My Dad has been living at Canfield Place for almost 2 years. He has more of a social life there, then he has had in a long time. He absolutely loves Canfield Place. He enjoys socializing so much that when I call his apartment, he is rarely there! That makes me happy knowing that he enjoys living there. The staff is great and attentive to his needs! My family enjoys going and visiting him because we know he is being well taken care of. Great Job Canfield Place!

I am a friend or relative of resident

In March of 2013 my husband and I needed to make the difficult decision to move my mom into an assisted living facility. After taking care of her for 12 years at home her Alzheimer's had progressed to the point it was in her best interest to make a transition. As any family making this decision knows it is not an easy one and there are many choices out there. For two years we prepared for this day looking at places, reading reviews, ratings, taking tours etc. Canfield Place was a blessing for us and mom. The facility is clean, well maintained and secure. The apartment options provide great living quarters in a smaller community setting. This was especially important to us so mom could feel as independent as possible while being well cared for. The staff made her transition an easy one and she adjusted within 2 weeks. The staff is friendly, caring and compassionate. They make it their mission to know their residents, the needs, wants and desires for comfortable living and how they will adjust is taken into consideration and seen in everything they do. The amount of activities and outings is so vast we can hardly ever find mom in her apartment, and because of this she has actually perked up. The chef and dining staff make every meal special with a variety of specials during the week and a daily special, this is in addition to the regular items that are on the menus every day. The meals do not taste "institutionalized" either, you would think you are eating at a resort dining room! We are so happy to have found a place that cares for mom like their own mother, and we can work and sleep knowing she is well taken care of.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Canfield Place was, for the most part, an excellent assisted living facility. It is located in a nice part of the suburbs, surrounded by ample vegetation and greenery (the backyard of the facility served as a great park and walking area). The staff were always nice and helpful, with a few always going above and beyond. The rooms were spacious enough, though certainly not luxurious. The best part about Canfield were the amenities. The food was quite good (good enough for my family to eat there when we had the option) and there was a hair-dresser in the facility. The social events were awesome and frequent; the residents really seemed to like them. At the end of my grandmother's stay, though, the staff started to get a little inattentive. The were multiple times when we felt that the level of care we were paying for was not being provided. They were shirking on the "assisted" part of the assisted living.
