My mom is in memory care at the Bluebird Retirement Community. The facilities are really clean and they have individual rooms, which was really nice, so they don't have to share. They're very spacious with really nice bathrooms in each room. They've put a lot of thought in designing things that work really well for the different people. There's quite a big ratio of workers per resident and it's really pleasant. They've gone through a lot of effort to put a movie theater in the facility, an ice cream shop, and a living room with a fireplace area. Some of the staff is excellent, but some are very mediocre. The food is very good. They have field trips and they have a pig roast coming up, but because she's in the memory care, she complains that there is neat stuff going on for the regular residents, but she can't participate. The price is outrageous and very expensive. It's $6,000 a month. The amount of care for the price is disproportionate. I'd expect a lot more for the price.

Bluebird Retirement Community had a really nice entranceway, which made you feel like you're at home, a fireplace and furniture out front, and a baby grand piano where anybody could come in and play. They had a café that looked like it's back in the 50's, and there's free ice cream all day. They also served coffee. They had a movie theater, a game room, a room to watch TV and do crafts, and a nice dining room with a chef on staff. It was just very open and very welcoming. It was impressive.

My friend is in Bluebird Retirement, and the whole place looked to me like a nursing-home. It doesn’t look like a retirement home at all. The staff is OK, but she spends a lot of time in her room lying on her bed. She doesn’t get out, and do many activities. They just kind of let her lay there. So it’s no better than a nursing home. I saw some puzzle game, they have a theater, but they don’t take her down to watch there. I saw some jewelry-making going on inside the theater door. To me it was a glorified nursing home. They should make their so-called "apartments" feel more homey. They need to get everybody that can still get up, to walk down and tell them, "We’re playing bingo. We’re doing this, and we’re doing that." They are just letting people lay there, and die. The dining-room, and the food were awful. It was cold, and it was un-seasoned.

My father was at Bluebird for five months. It was an assisted living community, so it wasn't equipped for Alzheimer's patients, but they did take him in. They had daily activities throughout the day, and they had everything from Bingo to social hours, ice cream socials, interactive activities, and exercising. They were wonderful. It was kind of like family. They were always informative, always helpful, and they always kept us up to date on what was going on. They communicated very well. Everything was wonderful.
