"Presbyterian SeniorCare was very nice. I liked it. They have some rooms with three beds in it, which I don't like because it's too crowded. Most of the rooms were two bedrooms with a wall that separates them, so it seemed like more of a private room even though they share a bathroom. It's like they have their own little room there and it seemed to be more spacious. The activities were very good. They always have someone coming in to share music with the patients, holiday activities, worship services, and I have been to their physical therapy room and it was very good. The staff was very good."

"My mom is in The Grove at Washington for rehab. She likes it, she said they take good care of her, they are very nice to her, and she has no complaints whatsoever (other than we can't see her, but obviously that is the case at most places with COVID). They brought her in a wheelchair to the front window so that my dad could give her some Valentine's Day gifts through the window, but that has been all. She said the food is good. From the outside it doesn't look that great. It's an older building, but it seemed clean from what I can see when I drop things off. When she was in the hospital for ten days, the hospital never told us she had a bedsore and a stroke. When she went to The Grove they found it. Now the bedsore is gone, and they said the stroke has affected that side of her brain -- the walking part. She's standing now; they didn't want to rush her. They keep in contact with my sister."

"Please do not judge this center from comparing to new centers just built. The staff here on the dementia unit is incredible. Nurse Jessica is one of the most articulate and caring nurses our family has ever met. We are a family of experienced healthcare workers from doctors, pharmacists, clinical lab scientists and office managers. Our mom has received excellent care. Her leg wound was completely healed by the excellent wound doctor on staff. I hate to mention names because so many deserve praise that care for my mom. Amanda, Brittney, Laura and Sara, and many other care so much about the residents. Also the male nurse is fantastic. They offered me a nice lounge to take my mom to and spend as long as I wanted with her. They continue to check on her even when I visit. My mom is kept so clean and I know this makes my mom happy and even gets her nails painted regularly and each of her children have visited and found nothing wrong with this center. We receive updates from nursing staff and always a cheerful greeting when we call and ask about her health. Most of all my mom is treated with dignity and love. I have felt like my mom really is so happy. She tells everyone she loves them often. The laundry is washed everyday and her bedding is kept so clean. Even bedspreads are laundered daily. My moms spiritual needs are met and they keep a rosary on her which is everything to my mom. They read prayer books with her too. You will find the residents sitting around the nursing station talking all day long. The nurses love this too ! I’m sure you will find a newer center but not better staff than the dementia unit staff here. Praise to all of them from the charge nurse to the laundry team. I spoke with a couple sitting outside and the gentleman said his wife had been to several centers around pittsburgh and he said this was the happiest his wife had ever been. He was so happy because she received care and compassion. Thank you all for the amazing effort you ALL give everyday especially in these exhausting COVID times. I wish I could remember more names from the dementia unit to include so please this praise goes to each and every one of you. Job well done team ! "

"Golden Living was horrible, and we will never go back there again. The food was alright, and they were terribly understaffed. The noise level was atrocious; it was so noisy all the time. The therapy department was good, and I did like it but the nursing side of it was pretty intolerable for him. "

"It was beautiful, but the nurses was clueless. You can tell they were fresh out of school and did not have a clue how to care for elderly. For the money it costs to live there, you think they would hire more experienced nursing staff. This is an important aspect to a retirement community. It doesn't matter how beautiful it is, it the staff that matters. After doing some research, came to find out they have a high turn over rate for the employees, so this could be why they had inexpienced nurses. "

"This nursing home has a great staff and support system that rivals some of the large and understaffed facilities. I would highly recommend that if you are looking for a nursing home, look no further than McMurray Hills Manor. The beds are filling up fast due to their care and love for the patients. Many thanks to the staff and nurses, and particularly the aids. "

"Genesis Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Care Center is excellent in so many ways. The facility is a safe, healthy, pleasant home for my family member, who is a current full-time long-term care permanent resident there. The most outstanding feature of this facility is the competent and loving care provided by all the staff, everyone from the medical nursing staff and nursing assistant staff who bear the most responsibility for the resident’s physical and mental health, all the way to the non-medical staff who provide important services such as showering and bathing, meal services, laundry services, room cleaning and building maintenance. The staff is competent, respectful and compassionate to the residents. Also, they answer all family member questions with patience and reassurance. I’ve spent a lot of time there visiting my loved one, and I’ve seen the staff in action. When I’ve talked to the staff, many of them have expressed how they grow very fond of the residents they care for, many of the staff express that they attempt to treat the residents like their own family members, and that overall the staff and residents of Genesis Rehab feel like a family to each other. In my observation, these words and intentions are demonstrated daily by their actions. Keep in mind, if you’re visiting there, some of the residents get regularly confused and will repeatedly say things such as “I need to go to the bathroom” after the staff has just taken them to the bathroom, or “I didn’t get my dinner” when the staff has observed that the resident did receive and eat their dinner, or the resident will say to any passing visitor “Help me.” The staff knows all the behaviors of all the residents, and therefore sometimes they must say to the resident “You already went to the bathroom” or “You did eat your dinner”. The staff is never short-tempered but being busy they might not stop their work to take a long time to soothe or convince a resident who is not able to be soothed or convinced. So, if you observe the staff giving a brief answer or going on with their work, don’t mistake that as ignoring the resident or not caring about the resident. The residents receive a shower and shampoo twice per week, and on the other five days the residents receive a “sink bath” or “bed bath” and the staff helps them clean up without a full shower. They put a clean outfit on each resident every day. My family member always looks clean, fresh and well-dressed every time I visit. You may be surprised to know that the food at Genesis Rehab is DELICIOUS. My loved one generally eats all her food at every meal. My family members have tasted everything she’s been served, and the quality is so good that we would be satisfied to eat the same meal ourselves! In addition to any food requirements or restrictions, the Nutrition and Meals Department and staff have a system in place to provide alternate food choices for residents who don’t want the food on the menu that day. Genesis prepares meals in whatever consistency the resident requires: normal food preparation, or “soft” food preparation, or “pureed” food preparation. For residents who require assistance with feeding, the staff sits with the resident to feed them and assure they are getting nutrition. If meal staff observe that a resident is consistently not eating, they report the information to the staff member who handles resident nutrition. The Community Life Activities staff provides a ton of social activities, exercise activities, art and music activities, mental stimulation activities, church worship activities, so many activities!!!! The activities range from interesting mental activities for residents who have no dementia nor mental challenges, as well as simpler activities that can be attended by residents who have less mental acuity or more dementia. The staff goes around and “gathers up” the residents who want to participate and makes sure that the residents get to the activities room (usually that’s the large Rose Room). When family members visit, they can choose to meet in the resident’s room, or in the large Rose Room (which is beautiful), one of the smaller visiting rooms near the resident bedrooms, in the front lobby sitting area, in the Bistro Restaurant are, etc. In warm weather, there are several outside sitting areas, and the front porch is a popular gathering place. The Laundry Department does every resident’s laundry, and they do an excellent job to wash and dry the resident’s laundry and return the laundry to the resident’s room. The resident or family member must be certain to write the resident’s name on all clothing items. My loved one does not need to see the Genesis doctor frequently, because her main challenges are reduced vision, reduced hearing and dementia but no serious physical illness requiring treatment. My understanding is the residents who require treatment for physical illnesses such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke symptoms, etc. are seen by and cared for by the doctor as often as needed. The doctors are not at the facility full-time, they are doctors who have their own medical practices at local offices or hospitals, and they visit Genesis Bridgeville Rehab as needed. The Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy (sometimes for eating, chewing and swallowing purposes as well as speech rehab after stroke or whatever) are all excellent. My loved one received excellent therapy during her short-term rehabilitation following a hospital surgery, as well as excellent therapy after she became a full-time long-term care resident. It’s my understanding that therapy during short-term rehab is generally paid for by the patient’s health insurance coverage. Therapy for full-time long-term care permanent residents may or may not be covered by health insurance, depending on necessity vs. optional. Non-necessary optional therapy may require private pay from the resident or resident’s family. My loved one’s necessary physical therapy during short-term rehab was paid by her insurance company. For the optional physical therapy during her long-term care, she paid for that therapy as private pay. The Social Services staff are excellent, always available to answer family questions, and they get to know the residents individually. The Business Office is very helpful and competent, and especially essential to assist the resident and / or family members to submit applications and paperwork for Medicaid medical assistance. The Facilities Maintenance staff does an excellent job to keep the facility clean, safe and repaired. There are no unpleasant smells at the facility, the building is very fresh-looking and fresh-smelling. The Admissions staff does an excellent job of explaining the facility and providing tours to prospective residents and / or their families who are considering Genesis Bridgeville Rehab as a home for their loved one. I hope my review has helped to educate you, and provide some peace of mind that Genesis Bridgeville Rehabilitation and Care Center provides compassionate, quality care to individuals who makes a decision to live there for short-term rehabilitation or full-time long-term care permanent residence. "I like everything about Country Meadows - South Hills. I like the rooms. They were nice and clean. All the staff that we talked to were very friendly. Everybody seemed to be very happy, very content. The dining area was very spacious, very nice, very, very clean, and just welcoming. They have a beauty shop and a game shop. They have a list of activities that are done. So, they seem to have everything that my aunt would need or want. They have laundry service for the residents, and the workers will do their laundry once a week."

"Friendship Village is a wonderful senior community in the South HIlls area of Pittsburgh. We considered several locations with my parents when deciding on a place, including facilities in other states. Friendship Village won hands down and we (and they) are very happy with our choice. They have an excellent dining room (we treat eating with my parents as an equivalent to a good restaurant night out!), nice facilities, excellent programs and services. The only small downside is their physical facility which is a little tired, however they are undergoing substantial renovations which will be complete in a year and should bring them up to the highest comparable facilities (other than no pool, not sure why they did not elect this). But the best thing about the place is the people. Their employees are wonderful, they always remember everyone's name and treat the residents with respect, in fact, it seems like, they treat them as they would their own family. I would highly recommend them. "

"My mother recently spent a month at Meadowcrest. Not a woman known to be easy to please, nevertheless, she was exceedingly happy there. The staff was very kind and attentive to her needs. The facility, though less picturesque than some, was clean and well maintained. Neither I, nor she would hesitate to recommend this place for a loved one."

"My dad is in Kane Regional Facility Scott Township. He is in the dementia ward, so it's a locked-down ward, but they also have other people who are there who are not in that situation. He was also there before for some rehab. I like it very much. I met this family, and their mom had just left Kane because she had passed away. She was there for like three years and they absolutely loved them and recommended it fully. It was a fantastic location in Scott Township. I love it there. The nursing staff is so great. They know my dad. They know us by name. Everybody knows everybody. They call me if there are any issues. They take him out on trips, even though he's in the dementia ward. They take them out all the time. He went to the aviary the other day and plays bingo, and he's thriving there. He's been there now for a couple of months, and he's only doing better and better since he's been there. The staff is great. They know everything about my dad, and they accommodate him. I'm not there when he's eating meals, but I don't have any problems with anything that he's eating. Everything seems good. They're regimented with the time that they do it, and they have a lot of people that they are serving at one time. You can't sit with them in the dining room, but I could take him to his room or into a conference room. The facility is not the most beautiful, but the service overcomes that. The staff is so great. They have a courtyard where you can take him outside. We take him out of the facility all the time, which we can do, and have no issues at all with that. They have games during the week. They have a calendar of all the different things that are happening and when they're happening. It's posted in every resident's room so they know what's going on, and we know what is going on, more importantly. They're interacting with my dad, and my dad's going out of the community. The other thing they do at Kane is if your finances don't meet what they need, they work through Social Security to help obtain the rest of the money for you. You have to provide the paperwork and everything, but they're helping us do all of that."

"The rooms are adequate. The staff is exceptional, they are diverse is age, talents and gender. They are a great group of people. You will hear singing and humming as they deliver trays to those who are not able to go to the spacious dinning areas. They are willing to take the time while passing out the meals to talk with the patients. There are many TV areas and a lovely outside area for the patients who are able to go to these areas. The therapy staff is willing to come back if the patient is sleeping or has company. The parking is easily accessible. The staff respect each other and are kind and nice to the patients and the families. I like the laundry room, it made me feel productive and more like I was at home. I often just missed the doctors but was able to discuss the visit with the Nurse on staff. I was very pleased with my father's care while he was at Kane."

"My mother has moved into Mt. Lebanon Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, and without knowing about them, I like their physical location. It is close to both my mother's home and my home once I move back to my house. The second thing was that it was recommended by both the VA and hospice company I have worked with. The third thing was they were going to give her a private room. First of all, it was for COVID, even though she'd been vaccinated. They have strict regulations, and they needed to isolate her for a certain amount of time. If there is a room close to the nursing station, a semi-private room, they would move her there, but there hasn't been an opening, so she has a private room right across from the nursing station. She gets up to walk, they would know, and they are right there to make sure she doesn't fall, those were the things we like. The thing that caught us off guard was two days after she was admitted, a nurse called me to tell me that she had fallen at 5:00 a.m. coming back from the bathroom. I thought, since you have the staff, and you knew from the information provided that my mother would fall if she left the room. They don't have the pads on the bed that make a big noise if the patient gets up to alert the nursing staff that she's out of bed. They said they don't have it, but we will be putting them in, and they did. She hasn't fallen since. Also, my sister and I took clothes for her, and within two days there were no clothes in her closet. The clothes that were there were from a community where clothes are donated for people that don't have somebody to provide clothes for them. I thought we had provided lovely things, like robes, pajamas, casual tops, sweatpants, and her favorite sweatshirt, but they were all gone. I understand how that gets mixed up in the laundry, and we hadn't had time to put names in or think about that, but I was just concerned that it happened so quickly, and everything was gone. There was not a thing that we had that was still in the room, so that was a concern which I brought up. For the most part, I had labeled them all, and they're all coming back to her, so those issues have been resolved. It's not just nursing staff, but there's a lot of support staff. I'm there visiting in and out constantly now, and I've never seen her doctor. I rarely, unless I ask for it, see a nurse, but aides, food service people, and the personnel that bring her food and talk with her, know her. I don't necessarily care if they're nurses or not. I need people that care about her or recognize that she might need something that she hasn't. That, they do very well, the staff that I've seen coming in and out of her room. She doesn't leave her room much, but she has started to. She has started to go out of her room, and sit in a chair right outside her room, which is steps away from the nursing station, just watching activities. I don't know if they have activities. She's not a joiner, but she likes chatting with everybody, so she's being friendly, and receptive, and not frightened."
