Outstanding care has been given to my mother who required extensive rehab after an injury. I got to know the nursing and rehab staff members as they spent so much time and attention caring for my mother. I honestly can't say enough about how glad I am that we selected Friendship Village. They made a stressful and painful time so much less so for my mother and also coordinated her care after leaving. Sherri the social worker was especially wonderful.

My mom has been in Friendship Village of South Hills for a week now. It's a little bit dirty. There are not enough help. There's too many patients and not enough nurses. It hasn't been great. The food is just okay. I am not satisfied with this place. If someone would ask me about it, I would tell them not to go there. I care deeply about my mother, and I come here every day and it's not the best. They have activities, but my mother won't participate. She's very independent. She doesn't want anybody to bother her. She just wants to be left in peace. And she was the same at home, she wasn't active. She doesn't go out and socialize a lot. She likes to just stay home and keep to herself. My mom is in a double bedroom. It's not that clean, it's small, and it's hard to get the wheelchair around things. The bathroom is small. It's been frustrating. I think the nurses are frustrated, too. Other rooms might be bigger, but this one is a very small room. The outside is pretty. It looks nice. It has nice landscaping, but it's such a huge building. They have retirement living, nursing home, and apartments. The building itself is nice. In terms of activities, my mom hasn't done any activities. But I've seen other people and it looks like they're having a good time.

I liked Friendship Village of South Hills a lot. It's very new, clean, and in good condition. It had lots of places for my husband to walk. He likes to walk. They had two different outside areas, which were lovely. They had nice rooms and a nice selection of activities. The staff during the tour was very nice, but I only met the marketing person. I did not see the menu, but I saw the dining area and it was very nice. I liked the whole place. The cleanliness was great. It was bright and there were lots of windows. It's very pleasant. It was extremely expensive.

This facility is good if you just need light assistance. I wouldn't recommend for those who need full care. In need of hospice or memory care this place falls short. Short staffed residents escape, fight with each other, falls are a daily occurrence. The food is not home cooked delivered once a week prepackaged and frozen. Memory care unit is shabby smells of urine. High use of agency staffing . Advertise as a luxury facility but the note on the snack cabinet begs to differ one snack per resident per day. Paying 9 grand a month. My best advice is save your money hire a private duty caregiver and keep your loved one at home.

My mother was lucky enough to be accepted for rehab at Friendship Village Health Center for recovery after a fractured hip and wrist. She was given such attentive and compassionate nursing care and therapy. From the admissions staff to the discharge planner, every detail was so professional and well done. We were so pleased and grateful for Friendship Village.

I can't say enough about the care my mother has received here at Friendship Village. She had many challenges when first being brought from the hospital. She has done beautifully. The therapy has been absolutely amazing- she has had physical, occupational, and speech therapies. The nursing staff is very patient and caring. They go the extra mile to care for her and make her feel at home. We are very happy to be bringing her home. It was touch and go for awhile. They have done an amazing job!

We went to Friendship Village of South Hills. We viewed the facilities, the dining room, the apartments, the gym, the swimming pool, and sat down and talked about the services that were available. The staff was very helpful, they had a variety of rooms, they had a calendar of events daily, and they were many amenities. It's a very beautiful community, very modern, and clean.

I agree with the previous review about the care at the rehab; It was not desirable at all. My mother cried everyday for the way she was treated. She needed help at times and never got it. I would never let her come back to this place. She was so happy to get out; and she had to go directly to the hospital for care because she was so run down.

The care was awful; They never came when I needed them. I was told to do things myself and I was really hurting. I was passed over for small things like late lunch and more. I would never go back and never reccommend this place to anyone. The aides were terrible; No compassion or care for elderly

To Kristen S.: I would like to express my deep appreciation to you for your help in resolving my Dad's W-2 problem. It might seem as if you did very little, but I assure you that I, and Dad, are very, very grateful. Although I usually can't get him by phone, my mind is often comforted when I remember that caring, dedicated professionals like you are attending to Dad. Friendship Village is simply a wonderful institution and the reason for that is people like you who work there. Thank you sincerely from the bottom of my heart for your help. Gratefully, Robert E. Burtt Jr.

Everything at Friendship Village was great. They have exercise room, movies, a library, and billiards. The dining room was beautiful, very cheerful, and big.

Friendship Village is a wonderful senior community in the South HIlls area of Pittsburgh. We considered several locations with my parents when deciding on a place, including facilities in other states. Friendship Village won hands down and we (and they) are very happy with our choice. They have an excellent dining room (we treat eating with my parents as an equivalent to a good restaurant night out!), nice facilities, excellent programs and services. The only small downside is their physical facility which is a little tired, however they are undergoing substantial renovations which will be complete in a year and should bring them up to the highest comparable facilities (other than no pool, not sure why they did not elect this). But the best thing about the place is the people. Their employees are wonderful, they always remember everyone's name and treat the residents with respect, in fact, it seems like, they treat them as they would their own family. I would highly recommend them.

After our grandfather was settled in, we visited the facility for a more in-depth tour. Starting with lunch in the dining room, we found the service to be outstanding, especially for guests of the residents. The food was well prepared and had a good variety - one worries that repeated meals may become tiresome for the residents. The grounds of the facility are beautiful. My grandfather chose a modest 2 bedroom apartment, that while small, adequately met his needs. While touring the facility, we noticed many activities available to the residents - trips, clubs, meetings, worship. My grandfather - not social by nature - has been devouring books in the library and completing projects with other like minded residents in the wood shop. I hope that the staff is reaching out to include him in activities he may not sign up for on his own.The residents of the facility seemed to be fairly friendly, but they did keep a close eye on the young ones in our party. Grandpa tells us that there are cliques formed along lines of interest among the residents - not surprising, but a new experience for someone who lived on his own with family for the last 60 years. There are medical rooms available, for stages in life where independent living isn't an option - this is a place where my grandfather will live out the rest of his days in comfort.

My experience with this place is always enjoyable, especially considering that I am not partial to places such as these. We go to dinner with our grandparents there sometimes and the staff has always been polite and quick to meet our needs. The food is actually quite delicious and seemingly high-end. The place is quite large overall and offers many things for the senior citizens to do. There is a library and a pool table and even a place to do arts and/or crafts. Their living spaces are small in my opinion, however, for an older couple it seems quite reasonable as they don't need much space to move around and rarely eat in their actual living spaces (the cafeteria is probably way better anyway). They even have their own little patios / balconies (depending on their level of the building) which i find quite suitable because they can keep planters out there. Overall, Friendship Village is a delightful establishment and I highly recommend it.
