Nursing Home Communities in Advance, NC

"I went to Davie Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Unfortunately, I was doing my tour. I walked all over the place, and nobody wanted to stop me to ask me who I was. So, I did my tours. It wasn't a guided tour by staff. I scheduled it, but nobody was there. They have very clean rooms, which I was happy about. The staff depends on which staff member you talk to, whether they're friendly or not. Some of them are just there to get a paycheck, and you can tell. There was blood on the floor right in front of the nurse's station. I made them aware of it, and they were trying to figure out who to call to get it up, which was a little odd because that's everybody's job. The dining area was very plain, so that was a good thing. I spoke with a social worker at the rehab place in Davie, and she didn't offer much help to me. She just said that's the way things were."

"The Oaks is a Great place, I have had family and friends to stay at that facility and they all had wonderful experiences. Left there with great rehab and nursing care services. They would highly recommend The Oaks anytime. Rooms are big and private. Housekeeping is wonderful. The staff is very kind, caring and compassionate to the residents and famalies. Activities are great. Favorite activities are Bingo of course. "

"I was shocked at how bad this place is. My father was placed here with the intention of getting rehab but never saw any. He was in their care for a little over a week and a half and several times we came and had to get someone to get him a bath or change his clothes which should have been done without having to ask. The Cna's are awful.... Not all but most if the ones we encountered. You have to have a heart for the job and many are there just to collect a paycheck. The end came for us when we arrived at 12:30 one afternoon, my father had been in the same shirt for two days... No bath.. We called for a nurse. They found he had gained an infection so bad on his back died that he immediately had to be transported by EMS. If he had been cared for and checked daily I believe it would have been found sooner. My father said they never came when he would ring his bell, or it took them forever. I would never place a loved one at this facility!!!!! Their own staff said they were trying to leave because it was so bad there. The smell is awful and so is the service. The rn's were great... That us about the only nice thing I can say. They should be ashamed of their facility and someone needs to investigate. We are filing a complaint. My father had to have a surgery that he almost didn't make it out of because he received less than appropriate care here. "

"My mom came out of a rehab center -- the Winston Salem Nursing and Rehab. She was there for about a month. They could have been a little better. Some staff that was very nice, but a lot of them was not that good. They were kind of lazy. When you walk in, you don’t feel everything was clean. My mom didn’t particularly like the food. She hardly ate up there. I did notice that some of the stuff that she wasn’t supposed to eat, she was eating up there, so that wasn’t good. "

"My mom is a resident of Arbor Acres. Her experience overall appears to be pretty positive. Her room is clean, and the staff is personable and helpful."

"My brother is at Brookridge Retirement Community. It is fabulous. It is the most wonderful place. It is clean and lovely. Everybody has been kind, cooperative, and as helpful as anybody could ever have been. I'm blown away by how wonderful it is. My brother has a private room and the room is great. Views are all over the windows. You look out over a forest. Driving into this place is like driving into an estate somewhere. It is wooded. It's just ideal. He's not completely cured yet, but he tells me that they've done exercises almost every day. He says he is doing better. The people are helpful and unbelievably kind and supportive, even the man who answers the phone. When you call, you're immediately hooked into somebody. You get beautiful Beethoven music while waiting and somebody answers the phone right away and they tell you where you are in line (I've never been higher than two in line). The place is lovely. Just perfect. It is great with nice-sized rooms. It's always clean, neat, and well-lighted, but cozy. For my brother's money, it's just been a great spot."

"Mature, experienced, competent staff, caring managers, with many years experience with this facility. Excellent care and beautiful grounds, gym for physical therapy, portable x-ray, outstanding care. One of the best I've seen, highly recommend. "

"We like Salemtowne. It's very pretty, has a very nice apartment, and has very nice people. Everything is great about it, the location, the food, the people, and the support you get. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. We have a kitchen, but there's a dining room, and we can go there. There are many activities, although we haven't done any of them yet. The place is very clean and kept up maintenance-wise."

"My mother did rehab at Abbotts Creek Care and Rehabilitation Center. The facility was very nice, very clean, and no noticeable odors or anything of that nature. The people were good, very helpful, and friendly. It was a bit pricey. It was small and a little more family oriented. It seemed to be a good place."

"I was originally very pleased with the care my mother received at Springwood. However, recent changes in staffing have negatively affected the care she receives. It is extremely hard to get appropriate wound care, the facility has an unpleasant odor more often than not, it is difficult to get anyone on the phone, instructions are not relayed appropriately between shifts and I am not entirely sure there would be much care at all if it were not for the Hospice staff. I have gone from being very satisfied to very dissatisfied in a short period of time. "

"My brother was at Alston Brook before he passed. We both really liked it. He liked the staff and he liked the people. I'm not sure if they were allowing families in, but they did call me ahead, so I was able to be there during his last 20 hours. It was intended to be for physical therapy. The purpose was to find a facility for him to have aggressive PT as he was able to handle getting his strength back and then come back home. The exterior was nice. I was not allowed to enter the facility, except the evening my brother died. I got to see his room and everything I saw was extremely nice. The room itself was large and very family-oriented. It had a couch and a recliner; it was great. He said it was very clean and very nice there. It's maybe 20 years old, but still looks very nice. We had such a poor experience at another place, but this one is a hundred times better. I would recommend it. It's family-oriented and I think it is Christian-oriented too because of the music that they played all the time. They have very kind staff. It was just a little odd that in some other businesses you may have the opportunity to leave messages, emails, and all the other stuff. Alston was not quite as up-to-date as I expected them to be. Other than that, they were great. They had patients in the rehab facility in one full unit. They also had patients who were probably memory impacted, like Alzheimer's or dementia, in another separate unit, which was skilled long-term nursing. They also have a little ice cream parlor and a cafeteria. For the food, you have the option at lunch and dinner to pick one of three things. So if you didn't want what was planned for everybody, they would offer you a second option. I thought that was pretty cool. Unlike other facilities, Alston remembers that older people like sweets too, and would make sure there was a cookie or something sweet with the meals, which I appreciated."

"The CNA's at Willowbrook are very kind, gently, and very knowledgeable of their job assignments. The CNA's are fun to be around, they make you laugh, and very courteous. They make sure if I have appointments that I get there on time. They have great personalities. They take their time helping you even though they have other residents to assist. Very kind people who I enjoy being around daily. The facility is exceptionally well kept and the meals are also wonderful. "

"What I like about Trinity Glen is that they keep in contact with the family members when they find something out about the patient or whatever. They communicate well with the patient's family, whether it's their guardian or a power of attorney person. It's a very clean facility. The food is good. Mom has been there a short time, but the staff is friendly through my experience. It's not a locked-down facility. You can just go in and sign in. There's always someone there at the desk greeting you. I know there are a lot of patients out there who are self-pay, but for those who aren't self-pay, I would recommend that. Mom is on Medicaid and Medicare. Even with some of the places that are just for self-pay, I would have her at Trinity Glen from what I've seen. They're pretty good when patients need changing or something. They don't leave stuff sitting in the rooms. They take it out immediately. They have an activity board. They have bingo, church, and crafts. They also took two people from skilled nursing to the fair and I was impressed with that."

"Nursing is very caring and compassionate. The rehab department is great with new remodeled gyms and awesome therapists. The building is clean with no odors thanks to housekeeping. There is always someone smiling and ready to welcome you in the front door."
