The Best Nursing Home Communities in Surry County, NC

"I have a person i love very much at this facility . The first thing i noted after passing through the entry way onto the floor was the smell. It would be totally impossible not to experience some unpleasant odors if a nursing home but it smelled really good and clean. The second thing i noticed was the pleasantness and friendliness of the staff . They greeted me as if they had known me always. They were kind. Pleasant ,helpful and not just to visitors but to the pati ents. When i saw Tiny Underwood, patsy Blair and Susan Viars it put my mind at ease. I had a relative at pulaski when tiny worked there and I was able to rest easy when i saw her in hillsville Shes ontop of things , hard working kind and joyful with everyone she meets. I havent meet one unpleasant staff person in all my visits. The facility is clean and caregivers are actually giving care. Good care. My only issue is i felt like the rooms are a little small for 2 people . Also i wish there was a way to make the rooms look more like home and less like a nursing home room. Even as small as they are there ought to be a creative way to decorate the rooms with personal items. I love the bird feeders and the front porch. Overall I was pleased at what I saw . "

"My stepfather was at Blue Ridge. The sanitation was good. They always have somebody cleaning. They said it was one of the best ones; that's why I took him there, and they were very good to him. However, I wasn't that impressed for them to say it was one of the best ones. "

With each visit I was greeted by professional staff members, the facility had no odor, and was very pleased with the interaction of staff and residents. I would highly recommend Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation to anyone looking for long or short term care. "

"I was originally very pleased with the care my mother received at Springwood. However, recent changes in staffing have negatively affected the care she receives. It is extremely hard to get appropriate wound care, the facility has an unpleasant odor more often than not, it is difficult to get anyone on the phone, instructions are not relayed appropriately between shifts and I am not entirely sure there would be much care at all if it were not for the Hospice staff. I have gone from being very satisfied to very dissatisfied in a short period of time. "

"I toured Salemtowne. They were very welcoming. The staff was excellent. The person explaining the situation there was outstanding. They offered pretty much the same kinds of amenities that the other place offered. It's just not as new a facility."

"We placed him in Brookridge. The rooms are awesome, and the food is very good. He is comfortable, very well cared for, and as happy as can be. They are expensive. It was three blocks from where he lived. "

"My brother-in-law has been in Walnut Cove Health and Rehabilitation Center for three weeks now. They have really been good to him, and we have been pleased with his care so far. The staff were very nice. He has been in a private room. They have activities, but he doesn't go. I know they had bingo. I didn't read the calendar, but I knew someone was going to bingo and to different things. It's for really sick people, so I don't think many of them go activities that much. It needs to be updated. As much as they're charging compared to other places, they need to have updated rooms instead of broken down pieces of furniture and stuff. The rooms are so small, so when you have to share, you can't hardly move in there. I don't agree with how small those rooms are. I don't think they're very good with activities. The advantage of it is being close to home. They're too expensive compared to other facilities. This is just convenient to us and near home, but I would not want to live there. They don't get bathed when they're supposed to get a bath. The floor is not as clean as it should be. We do keep his room cleaned, but he doesn't get a bath when he's supposed to. When he first went, the food looked good for a week. After that, it went way downhill, and I don't know what happened there. It smelled like poop every time you go in the door. Ventilation is not very good, he said."

"Conveniently located to my home, have friends and family that work there. Have had family and friends there in the past and this is where my mama will go when the time gets here for a facility. "
