"My mother has been a resident in the assisted living side of this home for about 2 years. She recently had a fall, and I was notified within 30 minutes! They took her to the ER via Ambulance, and I got calls from Riverview, the EMTs during transport and then from the hospital. She is back now in the rehab side of the home, and is being treated carefully and kindly. The nursing staff is excellent, they all seem to love their work and their clients. I have gotten all concerns addressed ASAP. The location is wonderful, right on the banks of the Delaware River. I live in another state (Mom's choice not to move out of her area, where she has lived since 1955) and there are 4 basic but clean and quiet guest rooms, for only $30.00 a night. This makes my visits with mom less stressful for me, and I'm able to participate in all her activities and dine with her (for a very small fee). I would highly recommend Riverview Estates. "

"My mom was in temporary rehab at Regency Nursing and Rehab. She was there for physical therapy and the physical therapists were terrific. They actually had her out of the facility a week earlier than they anticipated due to the progress they made. The management was well orchestrated. There was a presence of the management everyday checking in and making sure that my mother was happy. If we had any concerns, it was dealt with immediately. I would recommend them to others. "

"My mother is now in a nursing home and doing quite well. She is at St. Mary's Catholic Home. We transferred her there because it is close to the family. She has excellent care there. She is in a semi-private room and it has one bathroom. They have an excellent rehab program and she has made tremendous progress. They have a nice dining room. They have excellent food there. They have plenty of activities. They have daily Mass and rosary. Then they have bingo, they have musicians come in and they throw birthday parties. They have outside activities in the gazebo. They have quizzes and movie nights. Everyday there is like four or five different things. The facility is in the beautiful residential neighborhood. There are plenty of grounds to walk around. It is quite a large facility with different buildings depending on the need. My mother's nursing care is excellent. She has an assigned aide for each shift. It is nice because they get to know the patient. All in all I would give this place a 5-star rating because of their quality and consistency of care. The staff is very friendly. The administrative staff is friendly and very helpful. "

"As a patient, I see the care and experience the service. Like all places, they have some good nurses and some that care less. The wound care nurse is great. The rehab professionals are great and care about there patients. The Doctors connected to the facility are caring. The staff is friendly. Most of the patients are older and long term. They mostly come from Trenton. But a few of us open-minded, out-of-towners see beyond race and location. "

"My wife is in the Mercerville Center nursing home and I'm quite content. I chose them for several reasons. They have the same rating as three other different nursing homes in the area. There's a lot of staff members. I would rate some of them high and some of them low, and most of them would be a three out of five. My wife can't partake in a lot of the activities, but it's good for people in therapy or those that are mobile."

"My Mom lived at Greenwood House for the last 2 1/2 years before she passed away in March. Greenwood House was a life saver for both us her family and her. They were one of the few nursing homes that had a locked Alzheimer's Ward which she need desperately. They were one of over 30 homes we called and researched that would take her, even though she was on Medicaid, had a history of violence. After a especially difficult period of time just prior to admitting her to Greenwood House we knew that she was both a danger to herself and my father. She became very violent and got to the point where we could not reason with her, calm her down or care for her ourselves. After an especially difficult time when my father was in the hospital and we were caring for her she became uncontrollable. Destroying property (not on purpose she just could not control herself) for example she tore apart the bedroom she was living in, in my home ripping the closet doors off their hinges, and destroying everything in her path, the final straw was when she start to beat on my father and myself, I know it was just frustration and none of her behavior was her fault it was just this horrible disease, but we knew she was a danger to herself and us. On the suggestion of a psychiatrist at COPSA we admitted her to Carrier Clinic for observation during her stay her violence increased to the point where she physically injured some of the staff there (by the way Carrier was another amazing facility). With Carrier Clinic's Social Workers assistance we were able to stabilize her the best we could. In consultation with the doctors there and the social workers it was determined that we could not let her go home again, one of the most painful decisions I have ever had to make (and don't wish on my worst enemy). Based on her financial situation (essentially she had little if any money at all, her history of violence, the fact that she needed 24 hour supervision (while at my house I used to sleep in the hallway downstairs so I could stop her from leaving the house and wandering at any hour of the night), and her inability to reason or understand what was happening to her or control her actions we were rejected from almost every nursing home we contacted. Then I contacted Greenwood House (NJ Jewish Home for the Aged) from the start they understood and were extremely patient with us answering every question explaining that they never turn away anyone for financial reasons, and that their locked ward would be the best place for her. Within weeks a spot opened up and they admitted her no questions asked. Although I harbor a lot of guilt for "putting her away" it was really the only answer to keep her safe and provide her as much quality of life the disease would allow her to have. The staff from the nurses, volunteers to the business office and administration always put the her and her family first, it kind of restored my faith in humanity and even though I wish we could have cared for her until her passing it just wasn't possible but we never left a visit feeling that she wasn't safe and being cared for. I would recommend Greenwood House for any family struggling with the decisions we had to make, and I thank everyone there caring for her in a loving way. "

"They're very, very cordial. The staff gave a comprehensive tour. They're just not appropriate for what my mom needed at the time. The cleanliness was acceptable, they had an activity room where they would have events, and people could come and go with each other. They also had a gift shop and a lounge area."

"My sister was in St Lawrence Rehabilitation Center. They were very good. They had excellent care. It was a single room. The staff was very professional and very attentive, which is important. I think the food was OK. She really didn't have a great appetite at the time, but the food was OK. It was balanced meals. It was institutional food. I think they try to give you what you asked for and change whatever. I would say it was good and nutritional food. It was clean, and I think it's well kept. I think it's a very good place for a rehab."

"My mom stayed at Arcadia. I was happy with them, but my sister was not. There was some confusion there with her care. She was happy in a room that she was in. They moved her wherever she felt she needed to be if she was not happy with her neighbor. I thought they were really good. Then, she went to the hospital, and when we moved her back to Arcadia, they put her at the end of the hallway where she had very little care. She was not happy there at all. They moved her back into the hall where she had been, and she was happy again. I was happy with the office people and the caregivers, too. "

"My mom has been in Hamilton Continuing Care for at least a month. I love the facility, and everybody is very nice. Nobody stays in their bed; by breakfast, everyone is out of their beds. It's a combo between a rehab and a sub-acute. There are activities that go on every day from 8:00 in the morning until 6:30 at night. The people who work there are very caring, make contact with the people, talk to them, and socialize with them. It's been a great facility for rehab for my mother. The grounds are great, and there are sidewalks all around the facility as well as parking areas."

"I was paralyzed on my right side. Now I can walk again. The therapy department here is second to none. I feel all the therapists took a hand in my rehab and worked as a team. They involved my aides also. I can’t recommend the treatment at Manor Care in stronger terms. They are the best. Everyone at this facility made me feel like I mattered and took interest in my healing."

"My sister and her husband love Pennswood Village. I have also visited them, and it's just absolutely superb. I have plans to move in myself as well. They have everything offered to the residents. You buy an apartment, and they have a state-of-the-art kitchen and everything else. She has her own washer and dryer there. Her kitchen overlooks the patio, and it is a green area. I can't say enough; it's great. They do have a formal dining room, a cafeteria where you can eat in or take out, and a little café. They also have a library to die for and an onsite post office. "

"On March 21st my mother, Dolores was sent to your facility, she arrived at 11:30 a.m. and was already working with PT & OT ,your rehab facility didn't hesitate to get her up and walking, standing, working with her hands & building up her strength...we hit a few bumps , but nothing that wasn't resolved! A BIG thank you to Cindy and Ty for addressing any issues we had, both made my mother fell comfortable during her stay!!!! The staff& employees were nice,One Aide in particular needs recognition, "ROSA" she went above and beyond in comforting my mother whenever her anxiety got the best of her...we need 10 more like her!!! We were always greeted with a smile. The cooks were amazing, my mother had no problem with any meals, she said they were made to perfection!!! Thank you again to each and everyone at Statesman, job well done! Dolores "

These programs can be complicated, especially when it comes to benefit terms. Below, we give a brief overview of how these programs may be used towards paying for skilled nursing care.
If these options aren’t available to you, check if your loved one has long-term care insurance or contact your Area Agency on Aging to ask about any local financial assistance programs for seniors.

Trenton seniors who can stay in their own homes can hire in-home care or home health care workers, saving more than $6,000 per month.
