My wife is in the Mercerville Center nursing home and I'm quite content. I chose them for several reasons. They have the same rating as three other different nursing homes in the area. There's a lot of staff members. I would rate some of them high and some of them low, and most of them would be a three out of five. My wife can't partake in a lot of the activities, but it's good for people in therapy or those that are mobile.

Mom just came out of Complete Care at Mercerville. It was a terrible experience. They would say that her call button doesn't work, but they were just not responding. She was not being bathed regularly. They told me what the shower schedule was, and they're like, "She can ask for a shower anytime." I'm like, "I want her to be showered, and I'll stick with the two days that you gave me," and then I would keep reminding them, and then I come in the next day, and she still hadn't been showered. Then they're like, "She missed the window." She has trouble with her vision and hearing and needs assistance with cutting up her food. The only good thing there was the food, but they didn't tell them what food options there were. I told them that they should have some type of orientation for people as they come in. They didn't explain anything. I'm asking, "Is there a menu?" They're like, "No, it's just posted here." You could call, and then if you called the cafeteria, half the time they didn't answer, and she still didn't get what she ordered. She has macular degeneration and glaucoma, and it's crucial that she gets the drops, but they weren't coming to give those drops. Physical therapy was OK. She was on a catheter for a while. My niece and I had taken her to a doctor's appointment, and then we noticed that the catheter wasn't draining. It took them three hours to get around to changing that out. The doctor directed that the catheter should come out. I came back with the orders to have it pulled out, and they were like, "No, we don't want to pull it out." I had to leave work. I was almost there every day because the service was so bad. When it came time to leave, they messed up all the prescriptions. We live in Hamilton, and they sent all of the prescriptions to this pharmacy that I never even heard of in Middleton. The hallways were overcrowded. It looked like a fire hazard. There was always equipment in the hall, and they said that they tried to keep it to one side in case there was a fire, but now it was on both sides of the hall. They weren't good at tending to her or cleaning her up to use the bathroom. They would also leave her exposed with the door open. That was not a good experience, and it was upsetting for her. She was in a shared room. There were issues there because the other person had their TV on 24/7 and also had the volume up the whole time. Communication was terrible. I would tell them that I am picking her up to take her to a doctor's appointment. I told the woman in charge of the unit, "I'll be taking her out tomorrow," and then I called back at 8:00 at night just to remind them, and they're like, "Oh, no, we don't have a note of this in the system." The facility looked nice. The rooms that the patients stay in could be spruced up a bit, and are a bit tight. It is more institutional.

Rooms are Small and depressing. Food is HORRIBLE. The entire building smells of urine. The place is over run by non English speaking immigrants who are obviously just there for a paycheck. It's not clean at all. The only redeeming qualities are the activities department and physical therapy who are both very professional and well run. On the whole, the nursing department stinks and is grossly incompetent.

I'm now in Complete Care at Mercerville. There's nothing I like about it. I'm just getting used to it. The rooms are small but copious with space for clothing and oddities in the closet. It's not bad. The staff members are OK. They have been most helpful. Their food is the same as any institution. There are activities morning, noon and night, and helpful ones too. Yesterday, there was a book club. Today, it's a voice lesson.

My sister is in the facility in Mercerville, NJ for wound care. They have moved my sister to 3 rooms during her 2 week stay and is sleeping on an air mattress. When I called the facility to question why she could not get a real hospital bed, the very rude woman at the end of the phone told me an air is a bed. I asked if the head of the bed could be raised and lowered and she had no good answer for me. This is absolutely horrific in my book. Facility is also very old, worn, dirty, and smells.

My father-in-law had medical problems and had been in Mercerville Center several times. He was there when he passed away, and they really took good care of them. It's a nice environment. They have a dining room for the people. They have little things going on, like bingo, they play songs for them, they have parties, and they have communion and masses, which is important for my mom. It just seemed like the people care about the residents that are there. The staff is really good. If you have any problems, you go to them, and they take care of it. 9 out of 10 times if I noticed something and I went to them, they apologized. And within 24 to 30 hours it was taken care of. It's an older place, but the rooms are adequate for the people. There's lots of light in there, and there's always somebody checking on them. My mother was doing therapy, but she has plateaued now. So they basically commit, like every day they would get her up more around a little bit. But she's no longer in therapy. They have a day room they can go in and do puzzles or anything. In the mornings, they bring people up to the dining area and set it up, and they do exercises with them. Whenever somebody has a birthday, they have a big thing in the dining room for it to have cake and everything for the people. There's a real concern for the resident's well-being.
