Nursing Home Communities in Franklin, NH

"We found Havenwood - Heritage Heights for my mother. My mom-in-law was also there. They're the best place I know. They're very polite, very kind, even from service techs to the janitors were very friendly. They were very nice to my mother-in-law, my wife, and myself. That's why I'm trying to get my mother to go in there. My mother-in-law died about three years ago. She was in the apartments and worked her way up into memory care. She ended up with Alzheimer's. From the whole time she was there in the apartments to the memory care area, they were very nice people. I never heard any complaints about the food, especially the ice cream. They had a lot of activities for both the people in the special care units, and the residents. You can travel outside if you want to. They would take you by bus to stores. They're all very expensive. The one thing that I liked about this place is they don't throw you out if you run out of money."

"I visited Presidential Oaks while a family member was recovering from a stroke. I found the nursing staff and therapists to be friendly, knowledgeable and approachable. The facility was clean and the atmosphere quiet. I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking for a short term stay or long term care. "

"My dad was in Pleasant View Center for a while. He was in the rehab, but we would go see the nursing home part for different things because it’s all one unit. I thought they were very good about his care. They got him rehabilitated; his therapists were great. I did have a concern with them sometimes leaving him for long periods of time. I would come in and find him tangled up in the sheets, and the bed was wet and it had been a while. I know they’re understaffed; they have 50 rooms to do in an hour. It’s the staffing part, but as far as the professional part and what he needed for his therapies, that was 100%. "

"This is easily the better of the care centers in Concord when it comes to elders. There is a more intensive, more luxurious center located directly in the Concord Hospital parking lot but it was far too intense for my 87 yr old MIL. We had her moved to HH, where they made her feel at home in a private room as she has dementia and would have disturbed a roommate. There is almost always a waiting list. That was frustrating but befits the fact that is is a better center than most. The usual problems of overstretched nursing assistants and the lack of an RN on duty at all times was one of my reasons for distracting a star. I admire the LPNs but really feel an RN should be there. They are better than average about changing underwear and keeping the rooms really clean. Mom was getting so comfortable there it would have been a thought to go ahead and let her stay if they had the same conditions up on the permanent stay floor as downstairs. Someone needs to understand that unless it's a couple in a room together, then permanent stay needs to be all single rooms, even if they must be tiny. People deserve the dignity of their own space, their own bathroom/shower area. The other reason I removed a star was the food. I brought Mom most of her food because the food was a big pool of grease, and nothing there would fit a low fat lifestyle to any measure. But again, that is unfortunately typical. I'd say if you are looking for short term rehab for an elder, there is really no place better locally. If you are looking for long term..well it's really up to your elder if they want to share a room. Perhaps s/he will. If so, the care is great if the food isn't :) "

"We decided to choose Wolfeboro Bay Center as there is also a rehab center. My father had been there previously, went home for a while, ended up back in the hospital, and had to go rehab again, and he felt very confident with all the people that he dealt with there, so when the time came that he needed care 24/7, he said he would much rather stay there. He liked the place. I got a call from them today. They are excellent as far as letting me know what’s going on with him. They do call periodically if there’s anything out of the norm, like I was there today to see him, and when I came home I said to my husband dad wasn’t as good as he was last week when I went to see him. The nurse called tonight, and he has got a lot of symptoms: a cold coming on, he has got a fever, he is coughing, and they’ve called to let me know that. They would call and say, he is not feeling well today. He has a lot of indigestion -- little things that make us feel very comfortable where he is. They’re excellent in letting me know what’s going on. I think they do very well in every aspect of his care, and I am very satisfied. "

"I toured this place on a late afternoon. Staffing was scarce. Patients looked unkept and the overall vibe was poor. I could over hear staff complaining about how “short staffed” they were ... and it was visually dirty."

"I was alway more then happy to make trips out to the home. I would often enter the biulding and find the residents in the common room playing games and enjoying eachothers company. The over all atmosphere in light and happy, there were smiling faces all over the biulding when I would come in. I enjoyed being a part of the facility, the upper managment were always doing everything they could to make sure that the home remained as comfortable and home like as posible for the residents and the staff. It was a productive and safe place for people to live and know that they will recieve the care that they need without the residents losing their sence of self and independce. Also it lets the residents family know that thier loved ones will get the care they need and deserve. Its hard for a family to come to terms with the fact that thier loved one needs care that is beyond thier ability to provide. So they can rest easy knowing the quility of care they will be reciving here. "
