"I'm in Bellaken Garden & Skilled Nursing Center for rehab, and it's been very good. I also like the fact that they're in a military insurance provider network. The upkeep is very good, too. It was hard for me to learn about the staff here. Once I did, they were very dedicated to their job. They are very good. My primary concern was having insurance coverage for the facility that I went to. I'm a Navy veteran and have life insurance coverage. My main motivation was to get into a facility that was in my insurance provider's network. Bellaken is in their network. It was a little bit difficult for me to get used to the food at first. A lot of the residents here are Asian, so the food has an Asian quality to it. The food really is quite good."

"I was at Vi at Palo Alto for rehab. It was so fantastic. It was like being on a cruise. They were wonderful. All the physical therapists, the caregivers were very kind. I had my own room with a great view. The food was fantastic. I was in a wheelchair, but they invited me to the piano. They had a piano. Everybody got together listening to the piano. I'm also a vegetarian. They noticed that I wasn't eating very well, so they asked the nutritionist to talk with me. They were making me special meals of brie sandwiches and all that. They even brought me wine for dinner. The nutritionist, Joanne was a jewel. She came to my room and wanted to know what I would like to eat."

"I toured The Forum at Rancho San Antonio. It's a clean facility with many amenities that I would be interested in. The staff was very knowledgeable. She knew what she was talking about, and I was impressed with her. It would be more what I was looking for in an independent living facility."

"Pleasanton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center is understaffed. They had a situation just a couple of days ago. They called me saying they were rushing my husband to the hospital because the blood test came back, and his kidney is failing. When they got to the hospital, there was nothing wrong. I don't know whose blood test they had, but it wasn't my husband's. He is in a two-bedroom. It has a shower but it's kind of crowded. There's a wheelchair in there and you don't have a lot of room. My view of the staff depends on which staff. It's the way that they're handling the medication. We've had problems giving him his medication. The food is a typical meal, cafeteria-type meal. Some days it is good and some days it isn't. When you cook for a hundred people and they all have different diets, that is kind of hard. The place is clean. They have activities but we have not been involved in them yet. They have a walking thing down the hall. They also have movies going on."

"Mom is at The Vineyards Healthcare Center. She shares a room with two other women, so it's small and it's like a hospital situation. There's always something going on for the residents though. They have bingo, arts, and parties. The staff is very nice, too, and they're always available for you."

"I have a lot of family members that are in nursing homes, whether they are old and helpless, or young and the same. My cousin Sarah is an elderly woman, and can no longer take care for herself, neither can her family. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease about a year ago, and has been going downhill ever since her diagnosis. Since I am younger and in shape, I have tried to lend out a helping hand to my sweet cousin. Since I don't live anywhere near her, it is quite impossible with my work schedule. I have tried to put as much as I can into seeing that she receives good care, but have found out that genuine care is hard to come by. Silver Oak Manor, is one of the few exceptions I have come across. All of the staff treat my Cousin with the utmost care, and make her feel like they really want her there. They don't make her feel like a nuisance, or get frustrated with her demands. They see that she is properly nourished, and make sure that she has enjoyable amenities. The interior is very clean, and you can tell that it is well up-kept. "

"My husband is staying at Avondale Villa Post-Acute. It is an older building, but it's nice and clean. The staff is very good and very attentive. His room, he is sharing it with another gentleman, and it's very nice. He can even have pictures on the walll, which can be a little bit more personalized for him. I believe it's a good facility. The staff knows the patients. They know what their needs are. When you call for help, they come. The staff is just unbelievable. They are always accommodating. If I ask them anything, I always get the answers. I keep checking to see how his physical therapy is going, and I'm always told what progress he made. So, I have no complaints at all. They have activities every day. They vary from all kinds of different things, to playing bingo and painting, whatever the people can do on their own. For the value, it is something that I can afford."

"I went to Acacia Creek. I like the location. They have it in a gated community on a hillside, so it has trees, grass, and a walking path. And so it's very nice. It's not in the middle of a city or anything. It's lovely. And, it has lots of daily activities and excursions. The building was attractive. The rooms were nice and I did interact with the people there. Everybody was friendly. It's a little expensive, but this was the most expensive one I looked at. It would be my first choice if I could move today and figure out if I could afford it. I met the residents and the people who gave the tour, and everybody was very friendly. The facility was very clean and attractive. It has a friendly atmosphere. It felt homey. You didn't feel like you were in an institution. It felt like a very nice, friendly residence."

"My mom was admitted in what we would call a massive crisis. She walked into the hospital for a brain tumor biopsy early one Friday morning and she was delivered to Hillside the following day via ambulance under Hospice care with a life expectancy of fewer than 12 weeks. I did not have time to do comprehensive research before I entrusted them with the responsibility of my mother's end of life. I visited my mom every day (sometimes 2x a day) for the last 5 weeks of her life. I don't know where to begin complimenting Hillside. Let's start with first impressions, the facility is clean and smells fresh all the time. The residents milling about the halls all seems happy and comfortable. Every staff member, even the cleaning ladies were genuinely kind. I even got a tour of the laundry room and it was clean, organized and run by a proud sweetheart! Malu, Lola, Eva and the rest of the team took great care of my mom. They took the time to get to know her and really made an extra effort to make her as comfortable as possible. They made special meals for her and always made sure she had her ice water. They gave her an extra shower and always treated her with dignity during the most difficult time of our lives. As my mom declined the team kept her pain under control. They worked hand in hand with Hospice right to the very end. The ladies at Hillside were like a bunch of loving Aunties taking care of everything so that I was able to just be my mom's daughter and focus on my mom's end of life, not her actual care. It was the worst 5 weeks of my life and these ladies held me up and supported me in ways I did not know possible. I can not recommend Hillside enough. "

"My father has only been in Park Central Care and Rehabilitation Center short term. It's a good place, clean, and not smelly. The food was decent. The nurses were good. I only had trouble with one nurse in the two days that she was on duty. He liked bingo and got to know people. Everybody seemed to like him. It was the most reasonable out of all the three that he's been in."

"I stayed in Windsor Park for almost three months. They were wonderful as far as the staff. The CNAs, nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists, tehy're great! I like them, they were nice. At first, I just felt very sorry for myself that I had to be there but then this place became like a home for me. The only issue I had there was that there were a lot of dementia patients. My roommate, who has lived there for 20 years, she has MS. Though her physical ability was limited, at least we can talk and laugh and had conversation. Whereas, I was thinking, if I was in a room with any of other patients who has dementia that didn't speak at all, it would be difficulty for me. I just happened to be at the right time with the right person. I wouldn't mind going there again except for the fact that you would hear dementia patients screaming or crying or what-have-you and if you're there throughout the night, you would have a different attitude and it would be difficult. However, also as far the facility, the cleanliness, and the food, they were all great. "

"My mother was in Hayward Hills for physical therapy. She was hospitalized twice. She was supposed to be there for exercise, but it took them three days to start exercising her. Right after they started, she was having chest pains. We called 911, and they said her heart had been strained. The second time, nobody was watching her, and she was eating while lying down so she was choking. I had to call 911 again. Once when I visited her, I noticed something wrong and found out she was aspirating because her oxygen was only 71, and she would have been dead if I had not come. I asked them for my mother's medical records, and it has been a month since she was there but I still haven't received them."

"My mother-in-law is at Windsor Country Drive Care Center for physical therapy and occupational therapy. Shes been there for two months now. However, we have to remind the nursing staff on certain things for patient needs. Family support is paramount to keep her focused going forward, so we have to do this job of reminding the nursing staff, but its not all the time. The food from my perspective, she gets three square meals, but she doesnt always like the food."

"Care at this facility was poor. Call bells went unanswered for up to 20 minutes. Only canned fruits and vegetables were providedand on one weekend my dinner consisted only of a chicken salad sandwich. Meals were either cold or lukewarm. The best department in the facility was physical therapy/occupational therapy. The PT/OT staff worked hard to help clients to improve their physical and occupational skills. The housekeeping staff were friendly but did not do a thorough job when it came to keeping the facility clean. "The facility was austere did not offer many amenities. Staff were friendly and accomodating. There were two residents per room. There was only one shower room but several bathrooms for ease of access for residents. The recreation room was also the dining room. There was a small garden with a gazebo. Not much space for residents to walk around if you are looking for that kind of thing. "

"My husband was at Eden Healthcare Center for rehab. The staff and the care were fine. They were limited in the amounts that they had, and as a result, limited in what they could do, but they were good. My husband's room was a shared one. Aside from therapy they also took him for a walk outside the building almost daily, so that was good. The location was kind of far from me, but it was OK because I chose that one. It was easy to get to once you knew where it was, but it wasn't close."
