We have placed my wife’s mother in Shelby Manor. We are well pleased with it so far. The staff that I’ve met has been very informative, helpful, and friendly. We have no problems with any of them. They have alarms on all the doors, so it seems that security is important to them.

I've placed my elderly aunt there, and so far, I am very pleased. This facility is not part of a big fancy chain, but they keep their clients clean and well-fed and they obviously care about them. My aunt is showing lots of cognitive improvement thanks to the socialization.

My children and I visited this center and found it to be incredibly lacking in helpfulness and security. Although we introduced ourselves as 1st time visitors no one explained to us what to do or not do. A resident we were visiting gave my children money during 1 visit even though I insisted he not. I couldn't find anyone around to give it to...there were hardly ever any staff members at the front desks/rooms. I knew the granddaughter of the resident so I was in the process of arranging the return of the money because I didn't trust leaving it laying around. I ended up being treated like a thief even though I was doing all I could to make things right. I've spent years in the quality control field...and the lack of security and cleanliness was shocking as well. It ALWAYS smelled of pee, often times we'd see the residents being ignored, a staff member rolled her eyes when 1 resident asked for help getting to dinner, another resident needed the bathroom and received no help getting to it so I stepped in and took her, theft was apparent, and other things as well. I hope and pray things improve for the sake of the residents and their family...but I've told my children NEVER to take me there when I need it.

I visited Shelby Manor when I looked for a facility for my mom. The cost was very appealing, however, it did not have a memory care unit. It was a bigger facility so I felt it was difficult for my mom to navigate. It looked fairly clean and seemed very well-maintained. They had activities going on all the time. I was not able to try the food there.
