My mother got excellent care from the entire staff at Our Lady of Consolation Geriatric Care Center West Islip. They were very attentive to her. The outside was very nice, we were only as far as the lobby, but my mom said it was very clean, and we can see her room from her window. She said the food was very good.

Get out and stay out! Worst experience of not only my life but for my loved one as well. Call bell wait time exceeds 15 min or more. Doctors are in and out of the room and dont interact much with the patient. Some good nurses, some bad. Aides are nasty and rude to patients. When you walk in it looks really nice but behind closed doors where the patients/residents stay is a whole diff story bc its really dirty. The food is terrible!!! This place sucks! Get out and stay out!!! The only good thing about this place is the physical therapy. But i ask you, what good is it if the patient who receives it goes back to their room only to experience all that negativity? How does it help their mental well being? It doesnt!

My mom was there 9 weeks for rehab. The neglect was out of control, yes they would take her to rehab but once back in the room she would ring for an hour before someone would help her to the bathroom. Many time we visited to find her in dirty diapers. They sent her home still not being able to get in and out of bed.

My father went there after his hospitalization for short term rehab. The therapy team was good but when he got back to his room the neglect was overwhelming. He developed a serious bedsore while there. He kept complaining of back pain and no one addressed it. He was rehospitalized twice . The first time was he wasn’t eating and became dehydrated. Family had to alert staff to this and take measures into their own here. Doctors there look at the chart and do basic orders but don’t invest anytime in knowing a patient individually . The lack of concern for my family member was very upsetting . How does someone go to a facility and first gets so severely hydrated that no one notices until it’s almost too late. How does a patient get a bed sore while in a nursing home while supposedly receiving rehab and no one notice?? There were some good eggs but most of nurses just want to give prescribed pills and move on without actually assessing patient

The real unit staff are caring and responsible and know their patients. The biggest problem is the lack of regular staff. Floats are not trained to work units that they have never been on. They have no knowledge of the people on the unit. They have recently spent MILLIONS of dollars to build a staff cafateria, ok, the other millions were spent on a resident- guest cafe that is not accessible to residents in wheelchairs, glass doors not rubber bound which actually pose more harm to seniors in wheelchairs trying to gain access. Their hands become wedged in between the wheels and glass partition, should something chip the glass wow what a huge mess its going to be, the other millions left were spent on a garden one eighth (1/8) the size of a football field. NOTHING was done to improve the staffing or care of the residents!!!! When we started here 4 years ago it was completely different now it is totally a business!!! Administrators are to busy to talk with there staff. Heartbreaking to watch, heartbreaking not to be able to fix, heartbreaking to see such suffering and a total lack of financial responsibility by Catholic Health Services and the administration who let this happen. When it comes to patient care its not in the budget, but unusable cafe and ridiculously expensive walk with a fish pond totally affordable.

This place is terrible. My aunt is at this facility for rehab and she is far from taken care of. She has been there for over a week and was never taken to take a shower, She receives cold food everyday and the nurses are far from nice. When going to visit her she was not in her room and her nurse had no idea where she was meanwhile she cannot walk and cannot move the wheel chair herself. Absolutely terrible place and would give it no stars if given the option. No one should be treated as poorly as my aunt is at this horrible place!

I visited this facility

I did like Our Lady of Consolation. It seemed very clean, and it looked like all the residents were cared for. Truthfully, the assisted living facility was much more in-depth than this nursing home was. I would have gone back again, but I don't think that my mother is at that point yet. I think assisted living would better serve her purposes because, medically, she is fine. Everybody seemed very nice.

I visited this facility

Our Lady of Consolation is a nursing facility with different levels of care. It came recommended to us by our neighbor whose husband has been there for two years and is very pleased with the care that he is receiving. The social worker who gave me the tour spent time with me, was very courteous, and was happy to answer all my questions. As I walked through the facility, the interactions I observed between the staff and the residents seemed warm and friendly. The facility itself was clean and well cared for. It is on the top of our list if and when the time comes that my mom can no longer be at home and needs to be in a nursing care facility.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

We want my husband in a facility where all the relatives can visit him a lot and Our Lady of Consolation fits that criteria. It is just a couple of miles from where I live. It is big and beautiful. It has beautiful grounds. It has a very nice atmosphere. I like the private room that he was in where we fixed it up to make it more homey. We hung pictures on the wall, etc. However, his disease was so bad that they didn't think it was reasonable to have him there. After six months, they put him in a double room because they felt it was safer for him. This facility also has the best staff of all three places that my husband has been in. They are very good and very caring. They know everybody's names. Everyone is just kind. Their food is incredible. They have short ribs, chicken, shrimps, fish, etc. They're actually very good food. They do have activities. They have entertainments where people coming in, some singing, etc.
