Senior Living in Fairfield County, CT

"Sturges Ridge of Fairfield was excellent. The tour was great, and the staff was great. Because it's assisted living, they didn't have full kitchens in any of the apartments. They also didn't have a washer and dryer. You have to be willing to eat the food that they have. The washer-dryer was also a problem for my sister. She did not want to move into place without her own washer dryer. Other than that, it was quite a nice place. It's nice that it was in Fairfield and close to the downtown area. They have active social schedules where they take you on excursions. They also have a valet parking garage that hooks into an elevator right up to your floor. I think it makes it very easy for you if you still drive. The staff that toured us was very friendly, knowledgeable, answered our questions, and showed me everything that I wanted to see."

"Sunrise of Fairfield seemed new, fresh, and clean. The attendants were very pleasant. The staff member who toured me around was very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time discussing things and answering questions. Maybe they could have had a little more fitness equipment, because they didn't have a gym. But they had a bistro cafe and a theater room. The upkeep of the facility looked very good."

"My mom is in Ludlowe Center for Health and Rehabilitation for rehab. It's a very nice facility. It's very clean. The staff is very attentive, and they're very helpful. It's not your typical nursing home. It's a lot nicer than that. It's more homey. My mother seems to be OK with the food. She's in physical therapy every day. I'm not here when they do that, but they're trying to get her up, moving, walking, and stuff. Her room is very nice. It's clean, and it doesn't look like a hospital room or anything."

"Dining is really great! If you don't like what is offered, they will make something more to your taste. The food is always good, though, and we eat here with my mom frequently. The care staff is kind, patient, and well trained with dementia. We love that dementia is all they do here, so we know we have professionals. The activities are geared towards stimulating the residents in ways to engage their brain and help remember things they may have forgotten. They are always upbeat and enthusiastic. They go on field trips and have live entertainers, too!"

"My father has been a resident at Maplewood of Darien for 5 months. We have been very pleased with his care. His room, which is a studio, is very generously sized , the handicapped bathroom is large and the kitchenette is perfect for him. The staff is very attentive. When I am there even for the shortest visit, invariably a staff member will knock on his door to check on him. They have a broad range of activities. My father's favorites involve the outings such as scenic drives, concerts, plays and luncheons. He enjoys having lunch with a good friend he has made at the facility. Maplewood also allows me to coordinate his care with the V.A. where he receives his medications. The managing and administrative staff is very responsive and are always working to develop programs that the residents enjoy. I would highly recommend this facility."

"My sister and I visited River Valley Retirement, an independent living community, and made a few friends there. We got into deep conversations we couldn't finish. Just running into folks in the hallway, you automatically connect to them, and it was a shame that we couldn't just go sit somewhere and bond. It has excellent customer service, and the staff members were very professional and friendly. The community members, the ones that I ran into, had an opportunity to just walk down the hallway with us and bond with some folks immediately. When the women were gathered, I ran into some of them in the beauty parlor, they were all chatty. I just poked my head in there to ask if they are licensed with curly hair because working with it is a concern for me if I use a beauty parlor. The person there said that she was. Even with the women who were waiting, getting their hair done, the one who was servicing the ladies still took the time out to answer my question, and that was very important to me. They're very responsive to the questions, and I thought that was excellent. We got a package of three little cannolis, and they were the most delicious. I would say the dessert was excellent, and I'm looking forward to lunch. It was also very kind of the staff to offer the cannolis because I needed something after the trip, as we hadn't had lunch yet. It was an impromptu visit. That was another plus, too, because they were able to allow us to have the impromptu visit instead of the appointed date. I had spine surgery, and my twin sister is also a double knee replacement candidate, so it's a perfect facility to recuperate and enjoy with other people. You could socialize there, and we're very social and love talking and bonding with strangers. I love the fact that they have different types of exercises and recuperation methods onsite. I love the grounds, and the room was very clean and had everything that you needed. It had a kitchen, even if you wouldn't need a kitchen. I couldn't complain about anything about the facility. There was good parking, good transportation, and it's close to everything. You have a five-star facility right there. There are some other facilities in the area, but you have to take the ferry if you have to visit family members. With this, it's close by, and family members could stop by and see how you're recuperating, and that's important to me. My grandchildren can stop by with their mom and visit me."

"I love the Spring Meadows by Monarch. It was clean and bright. The decor was amazing. They had that soothing blue. And the residents that we passed by were really pleasant. They were all so very happy. The room itself was just amazing. It was a perfect fit for what I was looking for. The sales manager was extremely nice and very informative in terms of the community, especially the activities that are offered. It was nice. The receptionist was amazing, and the nurses that walked by were very well-mannered and very pleasant."

"My mom is in Bridges by EPOCH at Trumbull. It's all excellent. We were very impressed. It's very clean. They have a lot of programs that deal with memory care. The food is excellent. I give it two thumbs up. My mom likes listening to music. She's got dementia very badly, so that is pretty much what she does there. Her room is very nice and very clean. She has a room for a bed and some other furniture. There's a big closet, a sink, and a bathroom in there. They baked us an apple pie after we went to visit, and that was very good. But they will prepare anything she wants. If she likes blueberries, they'll go get her blueberries. They're very accommodating. We have had no issues. Their activities are geared toward people with memory loss. The value for money is comparable to everywhere else, but I think it's too much."

"Middlebrook Farms at Trumbull had a good appearance. It's well-maintained. The apartment was a good size and well maintained, too. The staff was knowledgeable and very professional. The dining area was clean. They have the normal clubs and there's like a list of maybe 15 things on the board, so the activities seemed more than adequate."

"Atria Darien truly deserves the highest praise. From our first visit, we were impressed by the professionalism, warmth, and accessibility of the staff, and we immediately knew this was the right place for our mother. Every question, from the moving-in process to daily details, was answered promptly and with care. The staff consistently goes above and beyond their job responsibilities, and their longevity speaks to the wonderful culture at Atria. The community is welcoming and vibrant, offering a wide variety of activities and special events for residents and families. Most importantly, we have peace of mind knowing our mother is safe, well cared for, and surrounded by a community that feels like family."

"I went to Benchmark Senior Living at Ridgefield Crossings. It was very nice walking in. You felt like you were home in a regular setting. It was very nice, and it was comforting going in there. The apartment was very spacious. When we peeked in someone's room, they made it look like their own house. It was very nice and very pleasing. The staff was wonderful. She was great. She took her time and talked about everything. She brought us around to the assisted living. Then we stopped by shortly into the memory care. They had a little choir thing going on and somebody was playing in a room. It was nice to see the whole facility at that point. The dining area was beautiful, and it was nice. The layout was great, and it definitely was very clean. She showed us a room where they had the activities and what they're doing. They had a lot of crafts going on. They had a chorus where you could join in, which was going on at the time. It was nice to see. There were a lot of people there."

"The rooms are very bright with large windows. There are one-bedroom apartments in the memory care unit which is hard to find. The dining room is big and the food is very good. There are always snacks, fresh fruit and cookies for in between meals. The staff is friendly and very patient. The communal areas are nicely furnished. There is always something happening, like a music concert or dancing, games, puzzles."

"My parents are residents of Waterstone at High Ridge. It is extremely well-maintained and extremely clean. There are good activities. The staff is very caring. It has a great sense of a social community, which a lot of them don't. So, there are always people out in the facility, visible, and they talk. It's a social place. It's independent, so the staff is doing tasks, but they're not assisting them with any activities of daily living other than providing food. The staff is all fantastic. They're friendly, courteous, and wonderful. Their food is good. It's gone up and down over the years. Sometimes it's good and sometimes okay, but compared to other places I've seen, it's very good. They have music multiple times a week. Once a month, they have an art show and a little art gallery. They have multiple social events in the pub. They have multiple daily activities every week, every day. My mother complains that it's too much of a game plan, but they do have a variety of activities. Vinnie, the activities director, is amazing. He is the sweetest, nicest, most wonderful person. He is just a darling, and he's very dedicated. They give us good value."

"The tour I had at Brighton Gardens of Stamford was just fabulous. It was very informative. I met a lot of the staff and I felt like I was informed about putting my mother-in-law in that facility. I met with Helene, who took me on the tour and showed me the facilities. I also met their administrator, their head nurse, and the physical therapist people. I toured the two available rooms (a one-bedroom and a studio), the dining room, and the outside gardens, and they talked me through the whole thing about transferring her to Connecticut. They actually made me a pie and it was really good."
