I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The smell of acidic urine and dry blood in my mom's room and hallway. The room was dirty. The staff was distant and not helpful to my mom or myself. The wound doctor would tell the staff to elevate her heals off the bed, it was not done. Not even the call bell would be put on my mom's chest , it would be hanging on the head board or on the floor. The paramedics and pictures don't lie.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom is in rehabilitation at Holliswood Care Center. My mom has been there for two weeks, and she really seems to enjoy being there with the other patients. She likes it even more because for me, it's about a 20-minute walk or I can hop a cab for 2 or 3 minutes to get to where she is. It is a very well-kept facility, which is very good. It made me feel very comfortable. The staff are very friendly and willing to help you in any way. It was another good point for me as well. It seems to be a good place thus far, so I have no complaints at all. My mom is in a room with two other patients. They have their own individual flat-screen TV and things like that. She can just walk right down the hall to the nurse's station and make a phone call to whoever she wants. She was comfortable, relaxed, and not worried. It was really a good fit. I literally talk to my mom a couple of times a day, and I always ask her really pointed questions, like "How's the staff? How are they treating you? Is anyone hurting you?". And all of the questions come back, "Everybody is fine. Everyone's treating me well. No one's hurting me. They show good respect and stuff like that for the senior citizens." Two hours of her day are spent at the gym with the staff. They do regular exercises, like walking up and down the stairs. They actually have a full room with various exercises, like lifting little weight and walking on a tiny treadmill to get their strength back. Beyond that, there are other activities as well that they can engage in with the other patients. Even when my brother and sister go visit, I ask how my mom is, and she's fine. My mom enjoys her meals.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

Holliswood Care Center is clean. The staff is very friendly, approachable, and helpful. I guess the food is OK. He does not complain about it.

I am a friend or relative of resident

Some of the staff is very caring. However the staff in general is very lazy. They have very poor communication skills amoungst themselves. We were told to bring clothes for my grandmother or else she would be put in "house clothes" which are old and discolored. So we bought her new ones and the went missing. she was continuously put in house clothes even though we specifically told them not to. This place causes more frustration than anything. I do not recommend this place.

I visited this facility

This facility has poor quality of care mainly on the 5th floor, a Psychiatric Unit. It is overcrowded and there is not enough staff to resident ratio. I do not see people engaged in meaningful activity and spend much of there day sitting in the hall crying , screaming or sleeping. Some aides and nurses are very nice and others are harsh and yell at the residents. My ex husband has had a soaked diaper on numerous times when I arrived there and he is only 58. They take too many residents to fill there beds and then cannot give adequate care. Courtyard to go outside is small and mainly for smokers. I did not have a choice sending my ex-husband there and would never have sent him there , but was discharged from a hospital 6 hours away from his home and near me so I have to travel 6 hours to see him and stay at a hotel. Shameful what hospitals allow in discharging their patients.
