My aunt is not able to communicate and the staff provides everything she could need or want with compassion. Nurses are fantastic and on top of every aspect of her care, any time we have questions they are happy to help. We had been to 4 other homes looking for the right place and none were as good as Mount Carmel. The decor isn’t great but who cares about outdated wall colors or ugly carpeted dining rooms/halls when the care is stellar. Nurses and aids are the best we have experienced anywhere in st Charles.

This place is awful. They treated my family member horribly. I would be there and see the aides not take care of the patients when they were at the table to eat. They’d leave them alone while they go sit in a corner and talk. What happened to compassion and caring for the patients. Once I was had to help a elderly man in a wheelchair trying to open a leading to steps where he could have fallen and the front desk person just sat there. Not a good place to be. If you are able to speak for yourself and don’t require much care it may be okay. But need help you may as well forget it. My family member was near the end and we had a radio playing hoping it may bring comfort. The aid said we could just remove it like the family member was gone already. So unfeeling. They also stripped the room of all the pictures we had on the wall like the person had died already. It’s been years since my family member was a patient there. But I have never forgotten.

Upstairs facilities seem great, everyone is happy and it all looks good. But God help you if you are in the downstairs rehab! My parent was there for nearly a week and it was one of the worst times of our lives. There were perhaps three or four aids on the floor. A few were kind and good, but most were not. Their demeanor was not professional. I caught one hitting my helpless parent and screaming at her. There were people unable to hold themselves up, left at the tables with their faces in their plates. My niece had to help a resident who was falling out of her chair- and the aid just watching and laughing. They were on their cellphones in the hallways despite a sign saying they should not be. We asked to talk with the floor manager and she just scoffed at us. We were kind to everyone, but their attitudes would have tried a saint. A worker told us that most of the downstairs help is from another company and they have no control of them. Well, this place still gives me nightmares. So if you are looking for short term rehab, don’t judge the basement by the upstairs. It’s a different world.

Mount Carmel was very depressing and we would consider it. It was very dark and the rooms were teeny tiny and old. It just reminded us of a nursing home 50 years ago. It was also hard to get around, and it was a terrible location to get into from the parking lot. We didn't like anything about it. The person who gave us the tour was very nice.

My dad is at Mount Carmel Senior Living. The place is absolutely great. The staff is wonderful, and we love it. They took good care of him. Their food is very good. They have lots of activities like they do outings. They go out to different places to eat. They have Halloween parties for the kids. They have Thanksgiving dinner. They also play bingo and do crafts. They have a church inside. They have music every Tuesday night where somebody comes in. What I like most about this facility is that the people are very caring; my dad is very well taken care of.

My experience visiting my dad at Mount Caramel Assisted Living was a positive one. Our entire family was not terribly excited about the prospect of dad staying in an assisted living facility for a number of reasons, namely my dad's pride and stubbornness to accept help from others. However, the staff at Mount Caramel had a great way of helping my dad without stripping him of his dignity. The nurses were always willing to help him to and in the restroom, to and in the cafeteria and with any other assistance he needed without making him feel completely inadequate. His time in the cafeteria mingling with the other residents was the highlight of his time there. The staff had a unique way of creating a caring and family atmosphere among the residents and within a couple days he had developed numerous relationships. I believe those connections made his stay there much more tolerable in light of the pain he was in. I cannot say enough good things about Mount Caramel Assisted Living.
