"I toured The Cottages of Fox Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care. I liked it very much. It seemed very homey. The rooms were a little bit bigger, but they were unfurnished. He could bring his little refrigerator and TV. It had a sink and everything in the main room, which was very nice and clean. The bathroom was very clean. They accommodated showers, which is important. It seemed homey, and it was all on one level. They had a couple of different cottages. They all hooked up, although they had a memory unit. The memory one would be where my boyfriend would want to go. Allie showed me the place. She also has contacted me a couple of times afterwards to see if I'm still interested, and I've asked her a few more questions. Everything there was very nice, but it was just the price. They also said they would accommodate his diet since he has a special diet. He can only eat certain foods."

"We were very warmly welcomed at Sunrise; the woman there was unbelievably kind, gentle, and generous with her time. It was warm and inviting. It's a much smaller facility, and it's not new. It was not a good match for us, and my parents are still very active. They have a lot of in-house events, and there's a library. "

"Sedgebrook became my new HOME in July, 2025. I choose Sedgebrook because of the environment that was safe, secure and conducive to my lifestyle. The atmosphere of congeniality and professionalism was evident during the first tour. The residents have been friendly and helpful. The staff was warm and inviting. The apartment is perfect for me with large windows, new appliances and plenty of storage. Activities are many and geared to many interests. Meals are chef prepared and really very good. The welcoming climate has made the transition easy and comfortable."

"My sister was living at Ciel Senior Living of Long Grove. It's very clean and very friendly. Their approach was excellent. Their food was sufficient, but it could use a variety. My sister's room was more than adequate. It's a nice size. She was in one with a bedroom, a front room, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. They did Scrabble and bingo, and they went out for lunch."

"I visited Sunrise of Highland Park, and it was a very beautiful facility. They couldn't accept my sister because she requires a two person assist. I thought that it was a beautifully equipped facility with very pleasant surroundings, very pleasant staff, and ideally located. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. My sister wasn't accepted as assisted living. They weren't going to go much further with me, and I didn't expect them to. They showed me the entire facility. They showed me the rooms and how they were decorated. It was very nicely done. I don't recall them discussing any of the personal amenities, but they have activities and transportation. The staff were very nice and friendly, and the building is very nicely kept."

"My father has only been at Belmont Village Buffalo Grove for a few days, but so far, so good. We chose them because of the staff and the location. They're all very helpful and very personable, and I got a really good feeling when my dad and I visited them. The facility seems very well kept up and a little formal. My dad was a little intimidated because he's a more relaxed kind of guy, but it's very clean and very nice. He's really liked the food so far. He said it was excellent. They had a wine and cheese night last night that I know he went to. He said it was really fun and he enjoyed it. I know they have a wide range of activities going on every day, like they print out a full schedule that they put on their door every morning. They have a little cafe that's open during the day when the kitchen isn't open. There are complimentary beverages and snacks. They have a full library and a computer center. They have laundry right there. Everything's readily available. They have all the doctors onsite and everything, so it's been good. It's not cheap or anything, but you get what you pay for."

"We selected the Auberge at Lake Zurich for my husband. I love the community. Most memory care centers cannot adequately care for an insulin-dependent diabetic. Some will say they can, but they are not changing their staff ratios. They need to have trained staff because insulin-dependent diabetics require constant monitoring and calculation of carbs from their meals. That is a need that most memory care facilities cannot meet, and this facility can. They follow what's called the MIND diet, which is a brain-healthy and heart-healthy diet. They understand the kind of diet we're trying to eat now. They have meaningful activities that challenge the brain. They keep their residents engaged. They've got an enclosed area for walking, and my husband loves exercise. We're going to be starting with respite care. At some point, I'll be moving him in full-time, but I'm not ready to do that yet. Their prices are incredibly reasonable, and they're all-inclusive. Many care facilities start you at a base rate, depending on whether you want a shared or a private room. From there, the prices go up depending on the level of care. The Auberge and other facilities near us are all-inclusive. It's one price for a private room, one lower price for a shared room, and then that's it. You're not nickeled-and-dimed to death with every little thing. They're able, and they're willing to look at the care plan for each person on an individual basis. If there are supplements I want him to be taking, if there are things I want him to be doing, specific diets I want them to adhere to, they're willing to do that. Whatever is important for each patient, they write up in the care plan, and they manage to that level, and that is important. Most places are not going to do that. They're a dedicated memory care. It's very well kept. They are owned by a company that is invested in this community. When I visited, they were in the process of revamping the entire place. They have four separate buildings. It's a community feel. It's not a big institutional feel. Each facility is smallish with the rooms around the outside and the open areas for dining, living, and kitchen in the inside, and it's got a home-like feel, which is important. I met with the executive director, and he struck me as a very kind, caring man who cares for each of his residents a lot and is there to meet their needs. I was very impressed with the facility. It was very clean, neat, and organized. The ongoing effort to maintain a high standard of appearance and to renovate as necessary is important. I want to see money being put into a place to keep it in good shape, and I saw that."

"I like that Addolorata Villa feels like a family community. I like that the residents were out setting up some of the Christmas decorations and the chef stopped to talk to us and there was a guy who mans the gym area like he's there all day. It's just a nice feature. The staff was very friendly. It was clean. One of the drawbacks is that it's kind of spread out. The atmosphere was very pleasant. I only saw two-bedroom rooms and they looked comfortable."

"The location of North Shore Place was close to me and had assisted living, which is what I need. The room was very small, but I will have to put up with that. The staff was fine and seemed nice. They have more educational activities than just bingo, like book clubs and various discussion groups. They take the residents on trips, like the opera and the symphony. The dining area is very pretty. The place is very well appointed and nice looking. "

"I highly recommend Waverly Inn Memory Care Community. Mom moved in there. It was excellent. It was clean, the staff was fantastic, very personable, and they treated you like family. The facility had a lot of options, from private rooms to rooms with shared bathrooms. They have activities in the morning and afternoon, throughout the day. Every day there are things to do based on the ability level of the people who are there. It's not the cheapest place around, but you got what you paid for. I told them to take a look at it because it's not a chain like they have multiple locations, but it's not like a big box. It's more of a personalized feel to it."

"It was fine, and a lovely experience. The staff was lovely, informative, and helpful. The rooms were fine, adequate, clean, and well laid out, however, it was a bit far away. It's welcoming, small, and it had a nice garden. They have a bus, and they try to have activities for the residents. The dining room looked like a restaurant."

"The staff at the Heathers Senior Homes of Ringwood were all very helpful. The only thing that stopped us from choosing them was the location of the room. We didn't feel it was conducive for what we were looking for. Everybody was in their room or something, so I didn't see people engaging in anything. I think they just had lunch, so they probably all went for their naps."

"It was just as nice as the other ones. They were pet-friendly, which was nice. The drawback for me on this one was its location compared to where I live or where my mother was living. It was not as convenient as the one in Palatine or as the one in South Elgin, but for the amenities, it was a five star. It was clean, the staff was wonderful -- all of that."
