Assisted Living Reviews for Landmark at Monastery Heights

I visited this facility

Landmark at Monastery Heights had very small rooms, so my mother-in-law would not have been happy. The grounds were beautiful, and everything was fine until they showed us the room. It is a pretty place. The inside is very well-maintained, and there is a lot of wood trim especially in the chapel. The chapel is beautiful, the dining room is beautiful, the library and the reading rooms and all that. I probably would have chosen this place except for the room that they wanted to give her was very small; she would not have been happy. Once we saw the room, we knew that it wasn’t going to work.

Provider Response

Thank you for visiting our community. I'm glad you were impressed with the grounds, the historic charm of the community, the beautiful dining room and community rooms. We offer a variety of different size apartments that begin with our smallest apartments, studios, and end with our very spacious one and two bedroom apartments. Perhaps you only visited our studio apartment. It's true that when people move to a senior living community, they typically down-size since they no longer need a large kitchen and extra bedrooms, so making that change can be difficult. But, once residents move in and meet new friends, get the care they need from our on-site staff, the apartments are more than large enough and their overall satisfaction is very high.

My relative was in assisted living at the Landmark at Monastery Heights prior to where she is now. It used to be a monastery, and nuns used to live at this place. The building is very old and very beautiful, and the grounds are beautiful. You go into the main door, and you would think that you are going into a 5-star hotel, absolutely beautiful. Of course, just being assisted living, they don’t have the intense care, and you are on your own. She had her own little apartment. They have 3 chefs, they have their own bakery, and they do all their own baked goods. They have their choice of 2 meals at each mealtime. If you do need assistance -- like occasionally she needed assistance with the shower and she did need medication reminder -- that is taken care of, and it is included in the cost. Wonderful activities -- they had trips that they offer the residents to different areas, and they had their own vehicle. Or if you had an appointment they would transport you in their van to that appointment; it was a very nice place. During the summer, they had a concert series outside. Each of the holidays, they encourage the families to come, they put out appetizers, and they have a Santa for the grandkids and the great grandkids. At Easter time, they had an Easter egg hunt for the kids; just really well-organized activities.

I liked everything about Landmark except the aspect of the individual room which I found very depressing. They need to improve on the individual units. They are situated such that we were staring at a kitchen. The physical layout was beautiful. The public rooms were beautiful. The staff was fine.

Landmark @ Monastery Heights is very comfortable. They had a large room, and they had 2-bedrooms. They had a lot of activities; plus, the memory care unit was very good for my mother. The staff was very comfortable and attentive. They looked like they had things well covered, and they accommodated all of their requests. My mother does go to what they called Morning Star, and they have been very good and accommodated her. Dad does the activities in terms of card playing, bingo, activities room, and crafts area. They show movies and happy hour. They seemed to be very comfortable.

My grandmother lived at Monastery Heights for over 3 years. It was the best choice we made as a family after her stroke. She had a very nice apartment and loved having all her own belongings in it. The community always had fun events that encouraged family to come and visit which she loved. The food was great and the staff and residents were amazing. They all called her Busha, which was what her grandchildren called her - and it made her feel part of a much larger family. I would highly recommend Monastery Heights!

The approach to the building and its surroundings was breathtaking. It got even better when I entered the facility. I was greeted by several residents and employees. I then met with Michelle Plante, who is the most amazing person. What a beautiful, caring, informed person. She gave me a tour and a lot of history about the place. After we sat down to go over paperwork and she gave me so much assistance beyond any else. Her knowledge and caring attitude helped me and family more than anyone else had. This place is the right combination for anyone's family.

We chose Landmark at Monastery Heights because of their memory impairment component called Morning Star, and that's really what attracted me to it. The staff was outstanding, very caring and very attentive to my mom and to me and they made this experience so much easier for us. She is in a studio apartment by herself and it has a small window, a bed and a bath. The dining area and the food were excellent. She raves about how her day goes and her interaction with the other residents. She is improving considerably. I was impressed with them and how outstanding, Michelle, the marketing director is.

I visited this facility

I was not really impressed with Landmark at Monastery Heights. I looked at the one room that they were offering (which might have been a room for respite), and it was so small. My aunt uses a walker, and there wasn't even room to walk around the bed. I thought it was very small and the hallways were very dark because it used to be a monastery. There was a lot of wood paneling, which was kind of dark, but the residents seemed to like it there very much. The staff was very nice and very helpful. I didn’t particularly like the dining room. Again, because this was a former monastery, the windows were way up high toward the ceiling, and I thought it was very dark. I did talk to some of the residents. They were in the gathering area for a musical thing, and one woman said to me, "She is just going to love it here." So, obviously, they were quite happy to be there. It gets high ratings and the local area is the best around, and Landmark came up as the best for assisted living, but it was not some place I would consider for my aunt. My aunt would have needed somebody to bring her to the dining room, and that costs extra. Their basic package wasn't really big, and everything else was an additional charge. Even though their rates were lower than the other places, they didn't include as much.

My mother is in The Landmark at Monastery Heights. I think their programs are festive. People that I talk with outside the Monastery have positive things to say about them. I think the price is right. The facility is very attractive, and they seem to have the results that they are striving for. I don't know exactly what they have, but my mother stays busy at least five hours a day. They are capable of making her go out and eat with the rest of the people there which she was not doing before. She is much more active than she was before. The staff seems very friendly, confident, and willing to help. In the three months that she has been there, she has improved in her spirit and her physical capabilities, and she is much happier.

You could not find a more loving, nurturing place than the Morningstar unit for people with dementia at Monastery Heights, My mom spent more than a year there before she died and the care was beyond anything I or my family could have imagined,

Landmark is close to mom's home. It's in the same community in which she lived. It was a former monastery that was converted into an assisted living facility. It's a very nice place with mahogany wood throughout. The people who work there seem very committed, very professional, and very caring about the patients there. It is a private room with a twin bed and a private bathroom. I ate there one evening with her and the food was very good. I think she's doing well there. The food is one good thing about Landmark because I don't think she was eating very well before. The dining room is very nice because it used to be the monastery's dining room, too. There are big windows, high ceilings, and mahogany wood paneling around the sides. There are all types of activities: movies and a lot of interactive things. I think the facility and also the grounds are really beautiful.

Looking for a facility is really quite difficult since we are looking for a place that is within the price range. We've visited this facility and it was nice and the place is comfortable. They provide a wide range of services from standard program to individual service programs, based on their resident needs. I really like the place but based on our financial situation, it is something that is quite expensive for us.
