"My brother-in-law has moved into The Highlands on the East Side. It's very good. We liked it because it was the most affordable. We also liked it because it was nice and small. He has trouble walking, so it was nice and easy for him to navigate. Upkeep and maintenance seem fine so far. The staff has been very good. They have community areas and a dining area. It's not as fancy as the others, but perfectly adequate for his needs. He participates in the activities. He's very social, so that works out well. He's been doing Jeopardy, some of the game shows, bingo, and things like that, nothing very strenuous. It's not the highest-end place ever, but it fits his needs. We're happy with that. The food is OK."

"I love Wingate Residences on the East Side. My dad was all set to go there, but he got sick. Wingate was probably the best place. There was something about the atmosphere that I really like. They had many activities, a book club, and activities were very good. If I have to choose for myself, I would go to Wingate. The people were lovely and the place was very nice. Even though my dad didn't stay there, I'm still getting little messages from them. They had very good communication."

"We ruled out All American Assisted Living because my mother-in-law doesn't want to go into a two-bedroom. The facility was brand new, and the food was good, but the set-up is for automatic; you can't have a single room. "

"Smithfield Woods Senior Living was a beautiful facility. That staff was very kind, and the hard part for us was the price was not what we were looking for, but they were friendly. It had nice facilities and lots of options. There was laundry and a gym, and it was clean."

"I toured Tamarisk with a group, and we ate at a private dining room, and it was pleasant. They have good activities: movies, television, recreation, and trips. The staff was very pleasant towards the visitors and, I assume, towards the residents. They have a porch in the rooms so you have a little private outdoor space. The dining area is a very pleasant, nice, big, bright room. It’s got more buildings I think than some of the others, and about 80 residents there, but the location is close to my Synagogue "

"I liked everything about Orchard Cove. They're well organized and well planned, had beautiful surroundings and beautiful walking paths around. They had very nice, friendly, and helpful people around. The staff during the tour was fantastic. It's an excellent facility. They had a beautiful swimming pool. It's clean and nice. They had a gym and a courtyard. They showed us several rooms and they were wonderful except for the relatively low ceiling. It's in a beautiful park with a river and lake around, walking paths and lots of green. They provide transportation."

They showed me everything, and they were very good and very open. The rooms were excellent and were a good size. They weren't too small or too big. Everything was clean. I saw their dining area, and the food and everything there looked good. There's no problem with parking, either."

We had the option of putting together two separate rooms to make one large room, which was a great option. They are accommodating in that aspect. The dining area was a good size, and it smelled good. Based on their activity list, they have a lot to offer for activities, like exercise programs (which was great). I like the idea that they celebrate all holidays."

"The only reason we didn't pick The Current South Shore is that the apartment was on the fifth floor, and the porch was way bigger. It didn't have a cover, so we were wondering how we were going to shovel it and where do you put the snow when you're five stories up. The Current South Shore was actually really nice. It was brand new. It was six months old. The apartment that they showed us was a studio with a huge porch, and that was for independent living. I would give it a 3 only because right beside it was an automotive shop, and you could smell the oil if you went outside. Also, if my dad needed more help, he would lose his apartment, and he would get a smaller place. The staff member who gave the tour was wonderful, but the other person was awful. We gave them money first and then changed our mind because the other person was so bad. The place is beautiful, but one of their problems is the way the driveway is. When you come in, there's not much room. It's the way it's designed."
