"I toured Garden View Assisted Living Baton Rouge. The rooms are just average-sized rooms, but they're well-appointed. The hallways and the main facility areas are very spacious and very comfortable. They do their dining a little differently. Their memory care unit is divided into two sections and each section has its cooks, kitchen staff, and well-care staff as well in their dining area, so the memory care patients aren't all crowded together. There is a small group. There's no odor and everything's clean. It's got a lot of room and it feels warm in there. I love the design of the hallways. It's very unique."

"Fidelis House is a hidden gem. After much anguish with 2 other reputable, larger format "assisted living" / "memory care" facilities, we searched long and hard for the right solution for what we were made to believe was a troubled Mom. We were told that our Mom was refusing medication & showers and had become rude with staff. We tried working with them & her, to no resolve. They sent her to Ocean's Behavioral Hospital because the couldn't "handle" her. All while we were researching the behaviors to find that this was all normal Dementia behavior. When we tried to work with the facilities, but they made our Mom out to be troublesome & impossible. We were extremely stressed and distraught. After many attempts to resolve & remedy the issues, we realized that these larger facilities are not properly trained to handle, communicate or care for Dementia residents. It's that simple. They are not properly trained. They are not adequately staffed. Fidelis is run by 3 women (RN's) who have been in the industry for 15-25 years or so, and saw the NEED for a more one-on-one level care for seniors and Dementia residents so they started Fidelis. My Mom was taking her meds on day 1 at Fidelis and has not skipped a beat. Why? Because the person admin'ing the meds takes the time to tell her what she's taking and why. Simple. She has showered regularly, though still with a fuss, the staff is aware of her feelings and find ways to work with her each time to help her feel comfortable and confident. Where we were made to feel like our Mom was a mental case by the other facilities, Fidelis has recognized that its all NORMAL Dementia behaviors, have given my Mom the acceptance and time and care to build trust & let the issues dissipate. The value in that is immeasurable. She's allowed to have the space to be herself at Fidelis instead of being forced to conform to perfection of the schedule in the larger formats. "

"My visit to The Care Center was pleasant. I visited this facility because my mother-in-law lived here before she passed on. She was no longer able to live alone in her apartment, so our family searched for an assisted living facility. Upon finding the facility we conducted a tour and decided that The Care Center would be the place where she would reside. The staff was friendly as well as personable. They learned her name very quickly to make her feel at home, as well as learning mine, my husband's, as well as my sister-in-law's name, being that we would be visiting her quite frequently. The amenities were good as well. The room itself was nicely sized since she would not be doing much moving around on her own. The facility itself was nice in that it provided exercise for her since she was unable to really move around a lot. My mother in law passed away months ago, but at least her transition was done around people who loved and cared for her the most. "

"My father moved into Fidelis King Richard. It's a residential home. It's a single family residence that they've converted into a care home. It seemed to give a homey feel rather than an institutional feel. So far, so good. It hasn't really been too long, and I visited him a few times. They're taking dementia patients and so far, he's doing well, but with dementia patients you just really don't know. I did not eat, but I saw the residents eating. It's got all the necessities and it seems to be a good facility. They watch movies together and eat together. I don't know other activities."

"The grounds were well-kept and it didn't smell like other homes for the elderly that I'd been in. The staff was nice and escorted me to the friend I visited when she had moved or was outside of her room. Sometimes it seemed like an inordinate number of people were sitting in the halls unattended, but otherwise I thought it was a nicer facility than most I've been in. "

"The Claiborne at Shoe Creek was very clean, well-kept, and new. You can tell the workers were very polite. The man who took us around was very good and pleasant. He took a lot of time with us and answered our questions. The facility smelled fresh. We saw the dining room, the craft room, and the hair salon. They were even getting ready for a tour bus to go out for dinner."

"Beautifully landscaped courtyard and private grounds, complete with recreational area for relaxing & socializing. Secured & gated, providing residents with safety & security. Licensure by the Louisiana Department of Social Services. Its position it's the very best, full of nature and life, it's a really perfect place to have a walk, the staff it's rather nice even if a saw better places sincerely, anyway the kindness of nature and the tranquillity of the place it's what to me makes this place special. The city of Baton Rouge it's pretty also, but somehow there aren't many buses to get to the city center, so sometimes you may feel a little bit isolated, and you can't get the guests to a daytrip in a museum or a cinema or something like that. In summer it may gets pretty hot, and the wooden structures doesn't helps at all! Beautiful place, rather beautiful people but bad structures and bad position. "

"For my mother, The Claiborne at Baton Rouge is the one that seemed to fit the best. I like the room sizes that have separate living and bedroom spaces. I like the fact that it was clean and spacious. Nice décor and friendly staff. Overall, the facilities seemed to be at a higher level than in other places. The staff who took me around was excellent. I saw a refrigerator and a microwave in the unit. They have like a really large screened-in area, and they have some outside gardens."

"Amber Terrace was a nice living facility. It’s somewhat close to my hous -- just a hop off the interstate. The only room I looked at was a studio, and it was fine. "

"I liked Magnolia Brook on Siegen. I'm in a wheelchair, and I was impressed by the roominess of the elevators because in some of the elevators, it was like a tight squeeze. But Magnolia Brook's elevator was extremely roomy. I was impressed with the personnel and the activities that they have. The staff was very cordial and very kind. I was only interested in the one bedroom. You could have a one bedroom, or a one bedroom with a patio, or a studio apartment. Magnolia Brook had a one-bedroom that impressed me because it was larger than the one-bedroom that I had seen in the prior places I visited. The patio was nice, but I really couldn't get on the patio with a wheelchair. I saw the game area and at the time I was there, I thought they were playing bingo, and the cook had prepared me some crab cakes, and they were utterly delicious. They were very good. The staff is very cordial, helpful, and kind."

"I toured Southside Gardens Assisted Living Center. My aunt likes this one the best. The staff members were great. They were very pleasant, and they helped us. The food was great and everything. The rooms were nice. The set-up of them was great. I like the set-up. They have a pool, and they have all kinds of stuff. It was good."

"My parents lived in St. James for quite a few years, my dad is still there. The place is pretty ideal for where to live in retirement, very good facility with many opportunities for a pleasant life. The best thing about it is the staff, they really make a effort and take good care of you based on the level of care. I notice one reviewer said otherwise and I have to say I was very surprised by that, I'm sorry if there was a bad experience for them but it may not have been anyone's fault. In Assisted Living they check in with my dad numerous times every single day to make sure he is well and whether he needs anything. In Independent Living, that is not the level of care that is expected, they give you more space unless you request help. "
