"When we first got to The Delaney at Lake Waco the lady at the reception was on the phone, which is understandable, but when she got off the phone she asked, "Can I help you?" We said, "We had an appointment to tour the facility today," and she was kind of surprised. My husband was a little put off with that, but once we got in there they were very, very nice. The facility itself was beautiful. It's like a five-star hotel, fancy schmancy, four stories tall. The building itself is beautiful. It was topnotch and clean, but it was the most expensive of all of them. Our little guide lady was the best of all. She knew everybody. She took us everywhere and showed us everything and interacted with some of the people that lived there. She showed us a room that someone had moved out of and that they were fixing up and repainting, and just showed us all the different things that they had. She gave us a complete huge folder with all their activities, which was really nice. That place was great. They've worked with us so hard to try to be able to take care of my dad, but my dad's diabetic doctor had said that the one thing I need to ask these facilities is what is their protocol in the event that my dad's blood sugar either drops too low or it gets too high, and they said, "We've never had that question asked." They called me back and said, "We're so sorry. There's no way we can monitor him in this facility like that." He's pretty much a 24/7 kind of monitoring because of his insulin, but they've been very nice. They offered us to come back to eat food, to come to look at the menu, and to bring my dad and let him eat the food. They were really great."

"I was able to tour the Stilwell Retirement Residence about 2 years ago. It was great. We did not meet the staff, but we met the volunteer that ate lunch with us and showed us around. We met one of the residents, and she was lovely. The rooms were great and so were the common areas. They have only one level of care there. Although there are some on walkers and all, you have to be independent. It's right by a public library and shopping area, and it had a beautiful residential area. They've got a salon, a workout area, a library, and a beautiful sunroom."

"I'm living at Emerald Cottages of Waco. I like its size, the size of the rooms, it's very well constructed, the woodworking is nice, and the kitchen is nice. Everything is nice about it. The staff is wonderful. The lady I've dealt with is the best, and she has done everything to make our move-in comfortable. I cook my own food in my kitchen, but they have luncheons every now and then for us. People rent their own cottages, and we have great activities at the clubhouse. This is a perfect place for me."

"We stopped in at Saint Elizabeth Place in Waco while in the area looking at facilities for our uncle. We were a little late for our appointment, but the staff was very good natured and understanding about it. We were immediately put at ease. The outer grounds were very nice, with plenty of seating for enjoying the outside. Our uncle would really appreciate that, as he loves to be outside as much as possible. We were assured that they could easily accommodate that so that he could be outdoors safely as much as he would like. We liked that is is close by to shopping centers, movies and other recreational activities, as well as hospitals and medical facilities. They take the residents to many events in and around the area. They also host a number of parties and gatherings on a regular basis. We saw several living options, from studios to larger bedroom suites. All were nicely decorated, fresh and clean. The floor plans are ample and many can accommodate an overnight guest easily. The bathrooms were easy to maneuver with safety rails. There are also emergency buttons so that residents may feel safe at all times. It was clear that the residents may enjoy a number of healthy and delicious options for all of their meals. They can order special items and all food is prepared with their health in mind. The snacks are also designed and prepared by their chefs - who offer the most nutritious items available, from veggies to protein bars. They also offer private catering for friends and family visits. Most of all, we really liked the very caring atmosphere that this facility provides for its residents. "

"Cottages of Oak Springs is an independent 5-star place. When I visited the place, I can see that they are taking their business very seriously, but I did not qualify to live in there. They have full calendars with things for the people to do every day. They have medical people coming in to talk to the residents. They have lunches and they do bingo. "
