I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom was at Heritage Woods of South Elgin. It was really nice inside. I was so surprised when I first went there. Their staff was just the nicest that can be. A lot of them were younger girls, the CNAs, but they took really good care of my mom. I couldn't ask for anything better for her during her memory care. During COVID, I believe they were a very, very safe community, and really watched what was going on in there. They did a lot of activities and really kept the residents engaged. It was really nice because I always knew that there'd be somebody there keeping her busy or active as much as possible. As far as the facility goes, the food looked like it was pretty decent. I know everybody complains about food, and I didn't actively eat it, but it certainly seems to be nice. I think my mom ate like a horse when she was there, she had no problem with the menu or anything. It was a very clean facility, which I think was so important. They gave a lot of individual care, which would be the main thing I would comment upon. I never had any problem at all. I thought we had won the lottery when we found that place because the expense was what she could afford. For the money, it was phenomenal.

My dad is currently at the assisted living of Heritage Woods of South Elgin, and he just feels at home there. The people are friendly and the food is good, I would recommend this place. The value for money is very good.

I really liked Heritage Woods of South Elgin very much. It was clean, updated, and cheerful. I toured the cafeteria, and it was very clean, too. I liked that their menu had a large assortment. The woman that took me on the tour (who was also in charge of the facility) was wonderful. She's very, very nice. I had visited other facilities who recommended her and their facility to me. So, I felt good about that. I liked that they could help you with Medicaid. They had a beauty parlor for the women while there were men playing Pinnacle in one of the rooms. The studio just seemed very small to me. The one-bedroom was fine though.

We went to tour Heritage Woods of South Elgin. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and just showed me all around and showed me all the different features they offer. The rooms are like studio apartments, and they're very cute. They have a nice size bathroom, an area to put your bed in, and a little kitchenette. It's very cute, bright and cheery. The atmosphere was nice. I like it. I'm considering this place. It's a contender for sure. They have crafts and bingo, and there's a workout room and a salon.

I toured Heritage Woods of South Elgin, and Cindy, the salesperson, was great. The financial lady was also great. We were going to get my mom in there until we told them that recently she's been having a lot of these accidents or incontinence. They said it's not something that they deal with, but all the rooms were nice. They weren't fancy by any means, but they were decent.

Heritage Woods of South Elgin is more like an assisted living. I met Bernie and she was very helpful. She was very informative, gave me papers to fill out for Medicaid, and told me if I needed any help, she'd be there to help me. We did the tour and she gave me a list of everything that I would need to get everything going. It was really a nice visit. The place was very clean and very active. People were going in to have their breakfast or lunch when we were there. Bernie showed me around and took me to different rooms. People we saw seemed to be very happy and going about their business, which was a very good relief for me. They have a beauty salon. They have nurses that come in too. They also have a laundry room, a game room, a library, and a TV area.

I didn't expect Heritage Woods of South Elgin to be that expensive, but I haven't looked before, and it is assisted living. They will help you if you need something off the shelf, they will give you your meds, they will do your laundry, and they will clean your unit. There are three meals a day plus snacks. It seems very well run, and I like the floor plans. The lady who showed us around was very knowledgeable. It's on my list to be considered, although that's the only place I've been so far. We didn't really interact with any of the staff. I met the receptionist and the case manager, and the director of nursing passed by. It seemed good. They're helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable from the contact we had. I know you can eat in the dining room or eat in your own room. The façade was nice, and the inside was beautiful. It looked clean; I didn't see anything dirty. It's close to stores and banks, Wal-Mart, Sam's Club -- everything. It's close to a busy road, although it's set back.

Heritage Woods of South Elgin was wonderful. I went there twice with my mother, and they're fabulous. They did her ADLs right there. They had a lot of amenities such as skilled nursing and doctors on-site, podiatrists, church activities, and meals. It's a very well-rounded place. I was able to speak with a few of the residents also. The staff asked the residents how were they doing, and the interaction among them was fabulous. They knew everybody by name. They knew all about them, too, which is really a big thing. They knew their kids' names and about their families. It's really wonderful. I was there twice when they had the meals going.

I can’t not articulate accurately how much I love this facility and the staff. The CNA’s are caring, attentive and patient. Jenny, the DON, and Christina, RN, are absolutely amazing! My father has been given the very best care here and they have gone above and beyond. Quite simply the best facility around!!

As a daughter who lives out of state my mind and heart are rested knowing my mother is at such an amazing facility. From the start I knew this is the place my mother wanted to be. Came up from Texas for a short visit and due to medical reasons ended up having my mother move into the facility. She had been looking at the facility already and was so impressed with the facility, staff and the overall Administration. I couldn't ask for a better place for my mother to be as I am all the way in Texas. She is very happy with the value of her studio apartment. And the meals that are prepared and served to her daily. I had a chance to eat with her when I was visiting and the meals are exceptional. The place is decorated as a home and the cleanliness of the place was also very exceptional. I recommend this place to anybody looking for a home-away-from-home for their aging loved one. The other thing my mother loves is they have people come to the facility for church which I believe is a very big part of my mother's daily activities. The weekly housekeeping and laundry services provided make the task for my mother easy. Again I wouldn't have my mother any other place. God bless

completely grossed out.

I recently visited my aunt her lives here and was completely disgusted seeing a nurse serving food in the dining room. Being a nurse myself, I am all too aware of the many germs I may be carrying around working with my patients. Can you imagine being served by a nurse knowing she may have been dealing with bodily fluids or feces prior to handling your food?!?! I'm sure this is some kind of health care violation. She wasn't even wearing a hair net! My aunt has explained to me that this is the company's solution because of being short staffed. But why risk the health of others?!? If it were up to me, I would have my aunt live elsewhere but unfortunately I don't have that power. If my aunt catches c-diff or MRSA this will be why. So wrong. If your short staffed, hire more staff!

I toured Heritage Woods. The residents seemed happy and talked to us. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They had activities and a Pace Bus that picks people up at the entry way and takes them to doctors. They don’t have a person on staff responsible for making sure people gets to doctors or anything, though. They don’t have a visiting doctor, but there’s a visiting podiatrist. There were some restaurants and churches nearby. For the grocery store, they would have to have transportation to get there, but there are other things closeby. It wasn’t as ornate, beautiful, nor grand as the other community I visited, but it was very home-like, clean, and beautiful.

Provider Response

We are so happy that you visited our community and were able to engage with our great staff. We do have a bus at our community, and our staff will schedule trips throughout the week for shopping, doctors' appointments, dining, picnics, etc. We also have strong partnerships with local transportation providers including the PACE bus. Our bus and transportation partners allow for and encourage the residents to remain engaged with the greater community. The South Elgin and Elgin communities offer many opportunities for shopping, dining, churches, entertainment and engagement. We are also pleased to have built strong relationships with physicians, podiatrists, home health and other healthcare professionals who provide their services in our community and the resident's apartment home. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you about your visit. Kind Regards, Al Arellano, Campus Administrator.

We found Heritage Woods of South Elgin for my father. The woman that I talked to was helpful. A lot of the things were included with the price, like meals and laundries. Plus, they would help him apply for Medicaid. They had doctors there if he wanted to see a doctor. They had very nice studios and one-bedroom. It was a decent place. Everything was nice in the dining room. I was actually surprised how nice it was because sometimes the Medicaid facilities are usually not as nice as other ones. They had activities, like outings and bingo and cards in an activity room.

Heritage Woods of South Elgin is a Medicaid facility. I find it to be a very good, spacious, and clean facility. I like the rooms because they are private. I would suggest that they have more activities for the residents.

I visited Heritage Woods of South Elgin, and I liked it, except this was the one where she couldn't have her cat, so that was the only drawback. There were no issues; everything was fine. The only problem was they were not pet friendly. Actually this one would have been really good because if mom lived long enough that she runs out of her money, they would accept Medicaid.

This was where they said they'll take my check and give me $90 a month to live on, I said I have to pay car insurance, and they said "that's your problem." Everybody there was on walkers. The apartments and the rooms were nice, and I kind of liked White Oaks at Heritage Woods. Off to the side, they had more beautiful places, but they were for Alzheimer's patients.

Heritage Woods is new and clean. They are very caring, detail-oriented, and I feel like my mother-in-law is safe. She has many activities to participate in, and she can get out if she wants to. I did not try their food, but my mother-in-law loves it.

We were looking at Heritage Woods of South Elgin. She is not there yet, but we're hoping that it would work out perfectly. We chose this because it met all our requirements. Also the price was very average with others. For activities, they have crafts, bingo, etc. They have activities going on in the building. They have a library and a crafts room. They did have a lot of activities going on.

The nursing staff headed by the DON needed to be replaced. I have a hard time getting answers from her about my concerns for my Mom. She's always not available. If you see her, it seems she's in a different world....

My mom was at Heritage Woods of South Elgin because it was close to us. It was a very nice and very clean facility. The price was reasonable enough. The staff were very good and she had a one bedroom place. She liked the food 70% of the time. Although, I would suggest that the CNA's should more attentive.

I believe Heritage Woods is overall very excellent. It's really clean and it's decently priced, too. The lady who gave us a tour answered all our questions and she's actually helping us to sort out papers for my grandma. All the people who live there seem extremely happy and they were willing to talk to us. Grandma told us about the activities available and a list of things that she can participate in. They even have a billiard and game room. She is diabetic, so they prepare appropriate meals for her to help manage her diabetes. They actually helped her to get off the insulin by making the appropriate meals. The rooms are really nice and pretty spacious.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My grandmother is currently in assisted living at Heritage Woods. She moved in when the facility was brand new, and it seemed like a good facility. Over time, however, some negatives have come to my attention. The facility does have many activities for the residents. My grandmother enjoys bingo, but they have many activities, including a Nintendo Wii Bowling team that competes against other teams. They also have a salon for the residents to go to if they choose. The staff seem to be helpful and caring from what I have seen. The main negatives come from administration. I don't feel it is anything that endangers the residents due to neglect or abuse. The administrators seem to be the people that are uncaring. A few months after my grandmother moved in they tried to force her out because she is a public aid resident and they decided to try to fill the facility with private pay residents. They made this very stressful for my mother, including calling every day to see where she was at in finding my grandmother a new facility. Overall we have been very dissatisfied with administration. My only other complaint is that on days when my mother needs to take my grandmother to the doctor and asks the CNAs to have her up and dressed in the morning, they never have it done. They say she didn't want to get up. So, in summary, I feel the facility could definately improve in some areas, but in terms of safety and general care I feel that they are a good facility.
