I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother has moved into Cedarhurst of Rockford. It was the second one I looked at and the staff seemed so friendly and caring until I got my mother in the door, and then it was just like they don't even care that she's there. They don't clean the rooms. They don't take care of the residents. Every time I walk in, I never see anyone working there. I called about being overbilled or the food in the cafeteria. My mother had cobwebs in her room. She had been there for six weeks, and nobody had even been there to clean her room. They would just come in and get the trash and leave. They wouldn't dust, and they wouldn't vacuum. It had gotten better just for a couple of days when somebody from corporate came out. My mother said that they rushed in, they hurried up and they cleaned up her room nicely. And then everything went back to the way it was before. Nobody comes in and cleans. And my mother says now when they see her in the hallway or something, like when she's going to breakfast, they look away. They don't even say hi to her anymore because I called corporate. I would not recommend them. If I had another place to put her right now, I definitely would. With regards to food, today's special is spaghetti and meatballs. And if you don't want meatballs, you can order anything off this first-order menu. It is not first-order. It is so burnt, it's so gross and it's so crispy. I don't know how they expect these people to eat it. I had seen people up there and I was like, 'Is that a hamburger? It looked like a hockey puck.' These people have no teeth, and they're feeding them like chicken salad or tuna salad on toasted bread on both sides of the bread. I've been in there six times at lunch or dinner, and the best thing here is the dessert, which is a prepackaged cake or something out of a can. They have one cleaning girl for 50 rooms, but every time I go in there, I see this cleaning girl and she's sitting on her butt playing on her phone. I hate to be the one to keep calling and stuff, but it just gets ridiculous for $3200 a month when they can't even go in there and clean my mother's room once a week as it is in the price.

My mother has moved into Cedarhurst of Rockford. The staff there has been fabulous. They're just wonderful. They have everything she could ever need there. They're like apartments. They have lots of different food options. They've got a bistro. They have a lot of activities, religious activities, arts and crafts, they go on outings, they have a rosary group, music, and movie nights. They have a water fountain in the backyard. They play cards, and they do crosswords and word searches, and baking. It's newly renovated.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My aunt was in Cedarhurst of Rockford before she passed, so we're very familiar with that place. We had stopped by there on and off over the last couple of years. It's just getting older and they said they were going to do some renovations, which they haven't started yet. My mom's legally blind, and they do not have any way of putting landlines in that building. The apartment was nice because most of them have at least one closet, some have two closets, and others have three (like a linen closet in the bathroom). Some of them have a coat closet, which most of the other ones don't have. The other rooms were fine. They have a craft room, an exercise room, and a library. The food was good.

Cedarhurst of Rockford was very nice and they took time with us. The tour was good, the lady was very nice, she talked to me for quite a while and wasn't in a rush, so I appreciated that. She showed me their two respite rooms. They were nice and nicely furnished. They have a large menu, and she said that they have a gourmet chef there. They have laundry, they have a beauty salon, they have activities there like puzzles, they go places, and they go to activities outside in their van. It's a nice facility, it felt like home.

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My dad is now in Cedarhurst of Rockford. He has been there for two months now. Their staff is great. They're very attentive to the residents, and they're caring. The facility is nice and updated. The rooms are very spacious. They got a big walk-in closet with a lot of shelving. There's a nice full-size refrigerator, a sink, and plenty of cabinet space. It's very spacious and updated. They provide three meals. They have recreational personnel on staff. They do outings. They have a pastor come in. They take the residents to restaurants and stuff. For activities, they do Wii bowling, have movies, and have game night.

Provider Response

Patrick, Thanks much for your kind words and thoughts, we truly appreciate it!

We saw remodeled rooms here, which were extremely nice. They had all new carpeting, fresh paint on the walls and new microwaves being put in. They were a bit on the small side for two people. We saw a few people doing activities on a couple of the floors like cards and crafts, and a lot of people mingling and talking. It seemed like a very sociable and nice place. The dining area was beautiful and had a very big menu. The staff was extremely friendly and seemed knowledgeable.

It was nice, a little larger, and OK. The rooms were slightly bigger. The staff was accommodating, gave the tour, and showed us the different places where the residents could do activities, the dining area, and a room. The environment seemed to be nice and clean. The outside and inside looked nice.

The tour was very informative, and it turned out to be the one I liked the best. The rooms were all nice, cheerful, attractive, and had a nice variety of sizes to pick from. What impressed me the most is every day they had exercise, and a lot of group activities where people can socialize with each other. The few people we said hi to seemed happy and like they enjoyed it there. They weren't just sitting in their room vegetating, but they were up and about, going back and forth to different activities. They sent us home with a nice box of cookies, which was very good.

It was wonderful, and I was really impressed. If I could have, I would have gone there. I didn't think the rooms were that big and could have been bigger, but I think they're probably average. The one thing I liked was that the dining room isn’t right where you first come in. It did have several different areas where you could sit and talk and had a little café-like bar with a coffee maker. They had a place outside where you could go and sit, a garden where you can take care of flowers, exercise programs for every level, and yoga classes.

It was nice. I had no negative things to say about it. The staff was nice and considerate. We asked questions and they responded to our concerns. They gave us a tour of the place. They had exercises and they do things with the group every now and then too. They had people come in to help people who needed help. They had a laundry room for those who could do their own laundry. They had a very nice dining room. You could choose to eat in the dining room or in your own room. We weren't expecting food at all. They gave us a drink and thought that was nice enough, then after the drink, somebody came in with appetizers, then they came back with dinner and the food was very good. The rooms were nice. They had rooms for couples and they had two bedrooms for couples who couldn't sleep together. I liked that it was clean. I would recommend it to others and I had talked to some people about it.

It is one of the top two that I found that I really like for my father. The staff is really nice and warm. They have different amenities and different activities. It is also in a very good location. It is near the shopping area where people frequent. This place is one of my favorites.

Friend or relative of resident

I frequently visited my great aunt at this assisted living facility. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. There was a gameroom (with a pool table), a hair salon, cafeteria, and large gathering/meeting room. The residents seem to have a great sense of community at this facility. The staff at the residence makes sure that residents have a great deal of opportunities to interact with each other. There was also a van available to transport residents for various group outings and events. In addition, the van was available to transport residents to church, the local grocery store, and to various appointments. It gave me a great deal of comfort to know that my aunt was well taken care of while maintaining a great deal of her independence.
