This first time I came to visit my aunt was a month or two ago. I was disappointed by the receptionist, Jenna, when I entered into the Independent Living section. She did not greet me at all or make any eye contact. She was on her personal computer and phone. She was too busy talking to someone through her earbuds that she did not notice I came in. I signed in and went on with my day. I have come a few times afterwards with the receptionists being kind with welcoming me in, but the times that Jenna was at the desk, I was dealt with the same treatment. This is truly unprofessional and I hope this can be dealt with

The Independent Living is Beautiful. The problem lies when a resident Actually needs Assistance. There are no CNA’s to be found and the exorbitant amount of UTI’s is a result. My Mom has been there since 2006 and at 98 needs the care that Skilled Should Provide but in My Opinion are not capable of doing as they are so short staffed. These are My Observations and Opinions

My mother in law is currently at Smith Crossing for rehab. She has actually been there twice. Both times were wonderful. The staff is kind, friendly and attentive. As soon as she presses her call button, someone is there within a minute. The nurses have been very good at communicating. Anything I ask for regarding records or updates is given asap. The therapists- PT, OT and Speech are wonderful to deal with- friendly, attentive and again, give me updates any time I ask. They have a great relationship with her. The social workers have been helpful as well. She loves the food. We take walks around the facility and it is clean, beautifully decorated and smells good. They have nice common areas where we can sit outside of her room. They had her ready to go on time every time we needed to leave the facility for doctor's appointments. We are SO pleased with the care she is getting there. We have not had a single thing that concerned us. Love this place!

My Aunt, who has been a resident since Aug 2015, has been in Independent Living, Assisted Living and now in 'SKILLED CARE' , and I use that term very loosely because VERY FEW of the employees are actually 'SKILLED'. She is now paying almost $15,000 per month for this shameful treatment . DID YOU UNDERSTAND THAT- $15,000 per month. There have been several medication screw ups, a repeated statement from the CNA's,"I am just from the agency, . .That's not my job!" or "I don't know anything about that." or "I will check that out and be back" never to return!! The food in skilled care is sad! There are a few meals that are hot, tasty and enjoyable. And on those few occasions, my Aunt calls and compliments the head of the dietary staff. Granted, MOST of the skilled care residents are totally out of it and don't know what meal of the day it is. HOWEVER, there are 4 or 5 residents that have full or mostly full cognitive wherewithal and get very disappointed at what they are served, cold, dried out dinners which they cannot even cut. The fried, dried out chicken breast which was served April 11th is the latest example. My Aunt called me after dinner almost in tears because she is paying almost $15,000 PER MONTH! UNACCEPTABLE!! Do you notice that more and more people just order grilled cheese? Even if it is not hot, at least it can be eaten. The latest scam seems to be that NOBODY actually answers there phone. "Please leave a message." And does not return the calls!

I did a tour of Smith Crossing. Everything seemed fine, but they had 15 people on a waitlist to get in. So, that wasn't really an option then, because we were looking at something fairly soon. It came highly recommended to us by a resident that's already there; one of my girlfriends' mom is in there, and she has nothing bad to say about the place, and is very happy with it. When we were there, they were playing a game with the residents. They were tossing a balloon around and they had noodles. Then they had another room with people, and there were two caretakers in there for six people. So, I liked that there were enough people in there to take care of them. The dining area looked clean, they had several different areas. I did not try the food, that was not even offered. The rooms looked very nice, and they were adding on, but they didn't know when the new wing would be complete. The staff member who gave me the tour, she was fairly knowledgeable. The facility is very clean. It was pretty pricey, but that really wasn't a concern. It was just more of viewing it and not having a smell.

My mom is in Smith Crossing for rehab. So far, they've been good. When I visited, the room was clean, the room was nice, and the staff was nice and very good. She asked for a pain pill and it was one o'clock when she asked, and they said, we'll give you one at three o'clock and they did come in and give her one at three o'clock. She said she liked the food, that's good because she's a very picky eater. They were knowledgeable, any question I had, they would answer it. When she asked for a pain pill, she didn't ask her nurse, she asked somebody else, and they got her nurse in there within like three minutes to tell her that she couldn't have one until three o'clock. So they were really on top with things.

My husband is in the rehab section of Smith Crossing. They also have full time people living there. The place is beautiful, and he's got the best care he could ever ask for. It's a new facility. The staff is way beyond what you would expect. He's getting the two types of therapy there: physical and occupational. The food is excellent, and the dining area is also excellent. He's under Medicare right now.

Mom entered Rehab at Smith Crossing in October 2019 after becoming disabled. She flourished but then due to age related issues was moved into Assisted living where she stayed until her passing on March 18,2020. Her care during her entire stay was like having an additional 100 + family members! The entire staff from RN's to CA's were kind, courteous and simply loving. The beauty, cleanliness & care of the outside/inside of the facility was only surpassed by the beauty of the care mom received by the staff. I visited mom everyday and saw the love & kindness she received from all.

Smith Crossing was new and very beautiful, but very expensive. They had nice facilities, but they didn't have any place to show us. The dining room was beautiful. It was brand new, gorgeous, well decorated, and very nice. All the other shopping facilities are here in Orland Park and it's a very good area. They had a gym and an entertainment room.

Mom was there for rehab and it was absolutely wonderful! After her stroke, they prepared special meals for her as she needed soft food. Mom loved their food and ate without any complaint. The rooms are cheery and bright. Staff was wonderful and always interacted with mom. They have the best therapists around. I cannot say enough for this facility. I highly recommend it!

They had very nice living quarters at Smith Crossing. The layout was very open. They had a pub there that I know a lot of residents like. The rooms were nicely put together.

Smith Crossing is very nice, but when I asked about it, they were very cold. Everything sounded wonderful, but they very cold to me as an outside person. It was rated highly, but the girl, the receptionist, was very cool to me. The people didn't look as happy there, and some people weren't really positive about it. It's just an average place.

Smith Crossing has a beautiful building but a bad location. It is expensive to get into, but the people who are there love it.

I visited the independent living area of Smith Crossing. It was very clean and very nicely decorated. I saw a couple of apartments, and the layouts were nice. It was just a really tasteful place. I met the staff, and the lady that took me around. It was her job to show people around and to explain the costs and so forth. It was very spacious. My only concern would be for people with walkers. The facility was really large. They do have elevators, but to go to the dining room would sometimes a long walk for the people who are not able to get around anymore. They had a lot of activities, and they had it posted in the elevators for the residents. They had movies every night. They had outings to go to different places, which was really nice for people who were able to do those things. They had two different church services on Sundays. On Friday evenings, they had hors d'oeurves and drinks in the big common room for the residents. They had a beauty shop, a library, and a man's cave with a pool table for men. It was very elegant and subdued in a good way. It seemed like all the residents that I saw seemed very happy. They were smiling, and nobody looked sad. It was on the expensive side, but it was beautiful, and I would recommend it to anyone.

I am living in Smith Crossing right now. They have plenty of in-house and out-of-house trips, games, and all that. I went in the independent living section. They have entertainment at night once a week, bean bag tournament, Bingo, and many outgoing trips to museums, shows, and things like that. I drive myself, but if you can't drive, there is a car that will take you to your appointments.

My wife and I are current residents of Smith Crossing, but I am thinking of going to another community. There are a lot of things going wrong here now. They're cutting back on everything. I understand that they cut the nurses one hour and they laid off several people. They're also cutting down on hot water. The dinner menus are all screwed up. They tell you you're going to get one thing and then they'll give you another. They're very poor on that service. Also my wife, who is in their memory care, they can't get her down on time to go to church. They're starting to improve on that but I have been asking them to do so for a long time.

We visited Smith Crossing and my cousin liked it because there was an underground parking. It was a newer facility and the room had more space. You could put a table and chair near the kitchen area. It gave you a separate dining section. They had a two-bedroom unit that he also liked.

I thought the staff were overall very peppy and cheerful and answered all my questions thoroughly. I observed the way the residents reacted to them, with genuine warmth and compassion. One nurse was playing chess with a resident, and they seemed like old friends...conversing about numerous things as if they'd known each other for years. In fact all the residents I observed looked very alert, not all were happy but most seemed to be actively doing something and no one looked sad or depressed. Some were playing board games, some were outside playing catch, and many were engaged in lively conversations.Living quarters are excellent and spacious with each resident getting their own apartment. The apartments seemed well maintained though I only observed ones that were currently not in use. The ones I saw all contained recliners, coaches, and television sets as well as a queen size bed in the bedroom along with a desk and lamp.Amenities in the main center were nice, such as an enormous library stock full of classic literature as well as some of the latest in contemporary fiction and nonfiction. There was also a pool table, ping pong table, and board games.Overall I was very impressed, particularly with how happy many of the residents seemed to be which I feel is the best way to gauge how well a assisted living facility works.

I was very impressed with this facility -- especially its cheeriness. The building is a two story brick structure that looks homey and suburban. Everything inside looks new with an eye for making the place look bright. The lobby has navy blue carpeting and a large decorated Christmas tree with red stockings behind it. There are numerous rooms for residents to sit and relax. One area had a fireplace and a comfortable chair with framed art on the walls. The multi-purpose room used for activities had large modern windows that allowed much light to come in. The dining room on the first floor looked like it could be in a hotel with a chandelier and tables with decorated coverings and cloth napkins. I visited the Memory unit which is a secure unit that requires one to have a code to enter. The residents here looked well cared for and happy. There is a fantastic activity director who leads the group of residents in exercise and an array of other activities. Resident's grooming seemed very good and the unit was cheery and bright. I visited a resident in a private room. It was furnished nicely with some knick knacks from her home. One gets the sense that residents are seen as individuals. Staff were professional and caring. The place looked immaculate. Personally I do not look forward to living in a nursing home, but if I had to, this is a place I'd like to be.
