I AM AND HAVE BEEN A RESIDENT AT CENTRAL NURSING HOME FOR APPROXIMATELY 4 YEARS. SINCE RESIDING HERE, I HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH GOOD MEDICAL CARE, AND ANY CONCERNS AND QUESTIONS I HAVE ARE ALWAYS ADDRESSED BY OUR VERY HELPFUL AND CARING NURSE JASON. AND WORKING WITH THE ACTIVITY DEPARTMENT KEEPS ME BUSY. I AM CURRENTLY THE PRESIDENT OF OUR RESIDENT COUNCIL BOARD AND WORK IN THE FACILITY WORK PROGRAM. I AM BLESSED TO BE IN A FACILITY THAT SHOWS LOVE, COMPASSION AND DEDICATION TO ME AND ALL RESIDENTS. CENTRAL NURSING HOME IS WHERE I LIVE AND WOULD RECCOMEND TO ANYONE.

My sister was transferred from her Sandburg Terrace. condo to Central Nursing Home because she could no longer care for herself, despite 5 day/week in-home personal care due to the progressive effects of "chemo brain" on her function. No one wants to leave their home but she has been very comfortable there. I visited frequently and, although it is not luxurious, I always found the facility to be clean, my sister's room clean and tidy and her bed comfortable. The "hands-on" Administrative Director works closely with his staff as they give gentle, kind care to the residents and their families. My sister has gained weight and is now strong enough to get out of her bed by herself to use her walker or wheel chair. She is always clean and neat when I visit and repeatedly says she is comfortable.

I was a resident for four months. I agree that the first floor and many of the rooms have a very strong odor. The first floor also usually has a lot of call lights going off all day while many immobile residents are parked in the hallway forced to listen to it. There are no adult activities, activities are kept at Bingo and Pokino, Horse Races and other childish games. The food is often undercooked, is gross in flavor, and dieticians don't use double portions for patients appropriately which are supposed to be reserved for underweight patients. The smoking area outdoors is not used for visiting as someone else said, and the staff are constantly cussing and displaying ghetto behavior on the job. Activities staff are impatient and rude. Because some patients choose to use drugs and alcohol as well, all residents are subject to search and Jacob, the administrator does search through people's personal belongings often, he is cheery but smug, and the place is generally non accommodating. When you rely on transportation for doctor's visits, due to the company Central uses, you may wait as long as two or more hours for your ride home easily turning a two hour or even less doctor's appointment into an all day affair. This place like so many others in the Illinois system is not recommended. There have been bed bugs in some rooms, which they responded to immediately, but still....

This place is filthy and should be closed down. The smell in here alone made me sick and many people smelled like they hadn't bathe in months Bathing should be required!!!! My relative stayed in this filthy place a year ago and gotten a terrible and very painful infection.

This place has a horrible smell. And what I really didn't like is that they let their residents wonder throughout a protected area in the front. The day I came in I met the owner and was shocked because he looked like he should have been a resident, was not professional and was unkempt. Also the Administrator was very rude, but some of the other workers, at the front desk, CNA's were nice. A few of nice people in a place of neglect is not enough to recommend.

I didn't think much of this nursing home and I would not recommend it. It is a basic, bare bones facility which cares for elderly people and people with various disabilities. The place is dingy and depressing. It looks like it could use some major redecorating. The furniture is sparse and old. Everything about Central Nursing says that this is a place for poor people to go and it looks somewhat like a psychiatric facility when you drive up with residents going outside to smoke. Some of the rooms have three or four beds to them. Despite their depressing surroundings many of the residents were very pleasant and friendly. It seemed that they looked out for one another. The staff too were polite and helpful making the best out of the little that they have to work with. There is free parking in back and on the side of the building and a small enclosed outdoor area for residents to go when the weather is nice.

(Also referred to as Central Nursing and Rehab; 2450 N. Central) This is a large facility located in an urban setting near the Fullerton and Central intersection. It is a generally safe residential area of the city with fairly well maintained sidewalks and ample street parking, also readily accessible by public transportation. It is a pretty sizable facility and provides care for many residents with both mental health and physical needs. Up until fairly recently it was a family-owned facility, only taken over by corporate management in recent years. The new management is planning extensive rehabilitation and remodel of the building, which is older and generally outdated in aesthetic, finishes and fixtures. There is a decent sized , fenced-in outdoor area that is used primarily by residents who smoke, but is also available for visiting. The interior common areas are adequate but by no means plush. The facility is typically very clean and well kept. Rooms are of average size and appear dated and somewhat institutional. Some rooms have poor natural light and appear dark. The food is average to good, probably better than one would anticipate though nothing to rave about. Staff is exceptional however, with many long-time employees with much greater than average tenure and a clear commitment to ensuring the wellbeing of the residents and overall facility. Staffing is typically good with enough staff on shift to meet resident needs. Kind, compassionate care is most typically the norm here.
