My brother moved to Shaw Mountain of Cascadia. He was expecting a larger room but ended up with a smaller one, which is fine. In his condition, I think it is adequate for him. He is on Medicaid and pretty much has to line up. The people are pretty friendly and very helpful. It is clean and orderly. I know they have a game room, an exercise room, and a TV room. The dining area is more or less just a bunch of tables the people could come to and then they serve the food out of the kitchen. It's not a cafeteria or a restaurant setting. It's more just a large room where they can sit at a table and the people bring their lunch to them.

Shaw Mountain of Cascadia is very clean and there's no hospital smell. I talked with a number of the staff, and I was very impressed with them. They've been there for a long time, so it doesn't appear that there's a big turnover. The food is very good, and my dad likes it. They have a nurse who's always there when I'm there. She administers the medications. They also have a rehabilitation center where my dad went to first, and they worked very diligently to help him know how to get out of the bed onto the wheelchair. They also did arm exercises for strength. Also attached to the rehab center is a memory center, which my dad will eventually go to since he has the onset of dementia. The staff was very caring, professional, knew what they're doing, and have had training. The meal I had was excellent, and they cook everything there. The place is nicely appointed, and the hospital beds all looked nice in rehab. There's TV and any kind of music you want, a couple of chairs for visitors, a sink, and closet. It's very adequate.

My Down's syndrome brother spent the last 6 months of his life at the Marquis Shaw Mountain. He grew up with 4 sisters and he lived with our family at home his entire life. If anyone would be critical, it sure would have been our family! It's a horrible decision for any family to have to face, but many of us have to in our life time. Our brother was loved and cared for by these dedicated special people. One of our first questions to them was "will he be touched and loved". The answer was yes and we went from there. He was always clean, his room was tidy and they made darn sure he was at bingo. We were welcomed anytime and appreciated as a pro-active family. Our brother loved to eat and they did the best they could on his meals. I know from this experience that we, as a family, made the right choice and we are forever indebted to all staff at the Marquis Shaw Mountain...

Marquis Shaw Mountain was real nice. I like the location. It’s a residential area, but it’s very, very close to the main hospitals here in town which was attractive, too. The grounds were nice; the administration was great. The two people I met there were really nice and seemed to know what they were doing. They all seemed very friendly and knowledgeable.

I gave this facility a rating of 3 because in general, the facility was very clean and well maintained. However, the quality of the food looked very bad. I would not have chosen to eat it. It also smelled bad in some of the patients' rooms. I was most disappointed with the way the residents were treated, there is no way I would have wanted any family member of mine in that particular facility. One of the workers I shadowed was always rushed and made the residents do whatever she wanted without asking them nicely. She seemed very insensitive to everything. The other person I shadowed complained every hour about how much he hated his job and rolled his eyes at residents behind their backs to me. He did not treat the residents kindly and was short, even rude to them on occasion. Residents were frequently left out in the halls by themselves to do nothing but just sit there and be bored. In general the facility was very clean and orderly, the patients' rooms were in general very clean.

This facility is one I have visited many times. It is always clean and staff are professional and courteous to residents and visitors alike. I felt a sense of belonging and welcome when I entered. The residents appeared happy and well cared for-even those that were bedridden or seriously ill. The dining area was clean and staff were very attentive to residents, helping with feeding when necessary and getting the residents anything they requested. Staff was always present during meal times to ensure resident safety. Patients were dressed in clean clothes with hair tidy and general appearance clean and neat. Patient confidentiality appeared to be a top priority and all medications appeared to be given in a timely and efficient manner. Staff were smiling and appeared genuinely interested in the health and wellbeing of the residents. Residents appeared interested and engaged by staff. The physical therapy area was well stocked with physical therapy equipment and staff there was incredibly knowledgeable and pleasant. All of my questions were answered in a timely manner and I was given a complete tour of the facility. All in all I felt the experience was pleasant and should I ever need such a facility I would be happy to stay at Marquis Care at Shaw Mountain in Boise Idaho
