"We visited Brethren Village Retirement. It was in our local area, and we had heard good recommendations about it, so we went over, spoke with them, and took a tour. It was everything that people told it was. We were not fully committed, but they knew of our interest. I had a thorough tour of their facility, and it was great. They had multiple activities, fitness facilities, and pool facilities. Their living area went from cottages, apartments, personal assistance to dementia areas, and it was very clean. Their apartments were not only extremely tasteful, but they were also very well kept. Whenever a new person came in, they would completely change rugs and paint it to your liking, and they were always doing things to upgrade for the needs of the people there, which was wonderful. They were expanding, and that was a good thing. They had a wood shop on the facility. Aside from all the things that I mentioned, I thought overall, what I liked the most was the attention to the needs of the residents. "

"Willow Valley Communities was one of the best around here. It was an excellent facility and very expensive. It was a huge complex with a number of new apartments and cottages, and they continued to grow. I was there a couple of times, and it was a beautiful campus. I would definitely consider this place if I could afford it. "

"I toured Landis Homes. I like the place. What I didn't like about it was you had to go through a lot of hallways to get to the pool and some of the activities. They have a beautiful gym. What I liked about it was they manned their gym and their pool all the time that it's open. Now, some of these other communities don't. Landis Homes did, and they have a beautiful gym and pool, and they have railroads, trains. I sampled food there. They have three restaurants, too. It's very good. The staff is pleasant."

"Luther Acres is the one I would like to get into. It's very clean, and they're very efficient. They have a lot of amenities. They have bus trips, and you get so much a month for food to eat in their dining room. They have a church, a barber, a doctor, and a hairdresser right on the premises. The staff is very efficient, very courteous, and very nice."

"We didn't find the people at Moravian Manor to be friendly. They had nice single homes, but they were older. They will be doing a new section, but it is at least five years away. I bet that when they do the new section, it is going to be lovely. "

"We toured St. Anne's Retirement Community. It was wonderful, and they did a really good job. We visited a one-bedroom, a two-bedroom, and also a one-bedroom with a den, and all those rooms had two bathrooms with a main bathroom and a half bath if you had visitors. The parking was fine. The one building has underground parking, and you would pay extra for that. The other ones had plenty of spaces and were marked off with numbers so they would belong to somebody. They had a little luncheon for us, and it was very nice. It was one of the best potato salads I ever tasted. We visited the cottages and the apartments, and I like the apartments better than the cottages."

"United Zion Retirement Community is very clean and well-kept. Their food is very good. They could use a little more staff. They're very nice, but each person has plenty to do. It doesn't have a swimming pool or some of the health things that other places have. I think the cost is a little less because of that. It's very well established. It's been here a long time. They have local people doing the cooking. I know they have invited some of the people who are in independent living to come into the kitchen and help them prepare food. They allow some of that, such as green beans, that they just need to have the ends snipped off and broken into pieces, things like that, not necessarily things that they would need to use a knife. I don't think they do a lot of trips and things like that. It's a very good value because it's a very safe place and very low key and I think that makes it very safe. There's nothing here I would improve. It's very secure. I chose it because of availability and reasonable rates plus their reputation here in town is excellent. They will be opening a new building and have 36 new apartments."

"I'm very pleased with St. John's Herr Estate. I am with people around my age so we have a lot in common. I got an apartment with a dining room, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and a full kitchen. So it's nice. They give me a $125 a month credit for my meals and I can go up and eat in their restaurant. I normally have breakfast every day and make my other meals myself. The menu is varied and it's always well-prepared, well-done, and never overcooked. It's great. We get all kinds of activities going on here. They have bus trips going down to the bank and shopping centers. Then they have bingo here, Wii bowling, shuffleboard, and all kinds of stuff going on. They even have a small farm at the end of the property where you can do some gardening if you want to. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. They'd do anything you ask them to do. The facility is almost brand new. It is clean and well-maintained. For what I paid to get in, it was more than reasonable. It's a one-time fee and then I pay a monthly fee for my apartment. It's a good price."

"Pleasant View is a highly recommended facility. Ideal location, many referrals recommending it most highly: people who have been there or who know of people who have been there. It is a pleasant view. You look out and they have a gorgeous countryside. They have a pool, and my wife loves the water. It may be a possibility of helping her with rehab by going to the pool because she needs exercise of some kind. They have a walkway so you don’t have to be exposed to the outside during our miserable winters like we had this past winter. They're close by some of our homes. "

"My parents are both in assisted living. The staff is consistently above and beyond in kindness, cheer, work ethic, professionalism, and general helpfulness. The other residents, primarily from the Plain community, are personable to the best of their abilities, inclusive of newcomers. Not every room has a view, but the surroundings are of gentle farmland and seasonal flower gardens. Rooms, lounges, gym, library, meeting rooms, porches, and outdoor walking areas are attractive and clean. My parents’ one complaint is lack of fresh food, which seems inexcusable when farm stands are visible from the campus and produce auctions are nearby. But nary a fresh strawberry, peach, bean, pea or watermelon slice has crossed their plate this summer, for shame."

"Quarryville Presbyterian was very nice and very clean. Everything was centrally located. I can't attest to their care but I know other people that were there. It is a very nice facility. I like the layout. I liked what they could ultimately be able to provide as far as health care. They have activities. They have a pool, an exercise room, and a cafe. They have transportation provided for anywhere you want to go, and I know they also have day trips."

"We live in Cornwall Manor. It's a wonderful facility. We're in independent living in an apartment. I would suggest for anyone to come here. They have a lot of amenities here. They also can take you to the stores, a lot of extracurricular activities, and you have the option of signing up and going to. It's just a very good place to be. The staff is wonderful. They couldn't be any better. They're very friendly, they take care of you, if you have a problem, they take care of it right away. We're in an apartment so we make our own food, but we have eaten in their dining hall once and the food was wonderful. I have not heard any complaints from any of the residents that the food is not good. Everyone seems to like it. The facility is great. We're in a one-bedroom apartment and it is great. We have a nice sized living room, a kitchen, a bathroom with a walk-in shower, and a nice sized bedroom. They have a space where you could have your own garden to grow your own vegetables if you want. They have different games on the outside, games on the inside, picnics, and ice cream socials. They can take you to different activities off-campus. They have people come in, they show movies once a week, and they have authors come in and talk about their books. It's just a very good experience here. Everybody seems to like all the activities, but we haven't gotten involved in things yet here. I think we are getting quite a bit for our money."

"Masonic Village at Elizabethtown is a phenomenal, beautiful, huge place. What they have available for retired citizens is just unbelievable. They have swimming pools, wellness centers, and 1,400 acres I can walk my dog on. There aren't any minuses at this point. They feed you and clean your apartment. You can't beat that. We were running into problems with the other places because nobody wanted to take our dog and our cat. "
