"Spiritrust Lutheran is very expensive but very convenient. The rooms are relatively small, they don't have any area other than just the bedroom and the bathroom. My mother-in-law is in the assisted living part. The dining area is closed because of the pandemic, the residents get their meals in their rooms. When it opens up, they will have different activities like bingo and book clubs, things that she would probably like to participate in. They don't really have them yet, but when they're able to, it sounds like it will be pretty good."

"The people who work at the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village were just fantastic. My mother-in-law was in the home for rehab after a hip replacement and needed assistance for about a week after she was discharged from the hospital. Although the aides were very busy they were so helpful in taking care of her dressing and undressing, back rubs, talking to her when she couldn't get to sleep, keeping her leg elevated, walking her, etc. I could see the activity in her hallway, but they always seemed to have time to take care of her needs. Also, the dining hall staff was excellent. By the time she left, she felt like part of a family. From the laundry workers, to the dining room servers, to the housekeepers, to the aides, we were very impressed. My father-in-law was treated very warmly by the receptionist and the lady who took care of the admission. The place was very clean and did not smell bad like many other nursing homes. The lady in accounting seemed very kowledgable and billiing was exactly as we were told: the only additional charge was for the hair care appointment. I know there were activities for people that wanted to go to them, but the only one that my mother-in-law went to was a chorus group who came in and she couldn't sit through the whole thing. When she told the activity girl she needed to go back to her room, she took her back right away. We had no complaints! My husband's grandmother was in the same nursing home years ago and we were very pleased with her care also. "

"Carroll Lutheran was not far from where my son lived. We did not eat a meal there. Our hostess was very helpful, friendly and gracious. Everything was positive there. We did see one room, and it was very modern and well maintained. "

"My husband moved into Messiah Lifeways. It's a very caring place. The care that he's gotten has been personal and good. In the nursing facility, there's a lot of attention given to the individual, and many people are involved with that. The food is very good. My husband has gained 15 pounds. So right now, we're trying to limit the amount he takes in by cutting in half the starches and the dessert portion. His room is comfortable. He is in a single room. It's the size of a double, and he has plenty of room himself for his belongings. A bed, a chair, and a bureau were provided. We have provided the rest. My husband is usually cleaned regularly. The laundry is done there for him, and they even label his belongings. So he is kept in good shape. The facility is not brand new, but it's adequate."

"My parents are residents of Bethany Village. It's definitely the best community. They're on the expensive side, so that's the only negative thing. The atmosphere is very good, and they have a lot of activities to offer. They have private rooms, and the dining area is excellent. They have all the facilities, nice pool, salon, activities room, restaurants, and a lot of different stuff. The only thing I could think of that they can improve on would be the price. The staff doesn't yell at the patients, it's very quiet and calm as opposed to the chaotic atmosphere other places have."

"Masonic Village was a lovely place. It was absolutely beautiful but a little financially out of our reach. Inside was immaculate and very luxurious. The staff was very accommodating. I did observe activities, but I didn’t go into detail because of cost effectiveness, so there was no sense of taking up more of their time or mine. The dining area was exquisite. You definitely get your money’s worth if you can afford it. However, it was not cost effective nor something that my mother could afford. "

"We chose EverTrue Cumberland Crossings because my son lives five minutes away, and I'll be much closer to him if I need him. We looked at an empty unit, and it was a unit compared to what I'll get. It was very clean and spacious. They're very large, and I'm getting a two-bedroom cottage. It looked very nice, and I'm very anxious to get there. They have fitness programs, a heated indoor exercise pool, and different committees and clubs you can join. They also have a walkway around the whole campus. I have a scooter and I'll be able to use it all over the campus. They have a chef, and I get 20 meals a month included in my rent. They go on trips and outings, and there's a little mall they go to, and there's a Walmart. They make little two-day trips around the area, which sounds good. The concierge gave my son a tour. I haven't been on a tour, but have been in the unit. I think he was very pleased with the tour that he got."

"I'm very pleased with St. John's Herr Estate. I am with people around my age so we have a lot in common. I got an apartment with a dining room, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and a full kitchen. So it's nice. They give me a $125 a month credit for my meals and I can go up and eat in their restaurant. I normally have breakfast every day and make my other meals myself. The menu is varied and it's always well-prepared, well-done, and never overcooked. It's great. We get all kinds of activities going on here. They have bus trips going down to the bank and shopping centers. Then they have bingo here, Wii bowling, shuffleboard, and all kinds of stuff going on. They even have a small farm at the end of the property where you can do some gardening if you want to. The staff is very friendly and cooperative. They'd do anything you ask them to do. The facility is almost brand new. It is clean and well-maintained. For what I paid to get in, it was more than reasonable. It's a one-time fee and then I pay a monthly fee for my apartment. It's a good price."

"The staff at Church of God Home explained the different wings that they had and what they've done in the skilled nursing. There were times that they get snacks and do activities. They try to keep them out of their rooms as much as possible and interact with other residents. They said that whatever requests we would want for our father, they would do it. It was a very nice place and everybody was very polite and answered our questions. You could have a one-bedroom there. The room can either have just one bed or two, depending on what you would want. It also had a bathroom, a dresser, and a TV."

"I went to St. Anne's Retirement Community. It's a beautiful residence and lots of real personality. One of the staff had done beautiful murals throughout the building. They care about making it feel like home. There were folks sitting outside when I came who lived there. They looked happy, and there was just a nice vibe when you walked in. They had less amenities than I expected, to be honest. They had social rooms, a beautiful chapel, and a nice cafe where you could go and you could dine with your family member as a guest; however, it looked like it was a cash restaurant (so it wasn't included in the meal plan). They had an activity room, and when I came they were about to start an activity. It looks like they've gotten people out of their rooms, and that was good to see. They have a policy where you have to eat two of the three meals in person each day. You can't just sit in your room; you really have to be part of the life of that place (at least that's how it seemed). I was disappointed in the rooms. It kind of almost looks like a nice studio setup where you have a little fridge and some even have sinks in the rooms, but then I realized that they did not have any staged rooms. They were just showing an empty room with a hospital bed in it. Each room had its own flat screen TV, and the landline was all ready to go. All you had to do was plug in the phone, so you didn't have to worry about TV and phone. I saw some of the actual residence rooms as I walked by, and they looked so cute. They looked like apartments, and I thought they were a different layout. It was because they live there and they were personalized, so I think that they need to pick a room and stage it. Otherwise it looks a little dismal, but they really can be adorable. They have a beautiful facility, and yet there wasn't a lot of worth from the admission staff. I think the staff who work there are probably fantastic. It was the admissions staff. I just wish they had been more enthusiastic about selling the place. It might be they don't need to because it's so popular, but that was concerning that they're not showing off how great it is. They had beautiful grounds; but for residents with higher needs, they don't have places to walk around outside. They had limited guest hours so that would be challenging."

"Homeland Center was horrendous. It was dingy and very dark, and first impressions were very unfavorable. The facility section that my dad would have been in was one hallway. The room he would have been in had a view of a white brick wall because I pulled open the curtains and I saw a brick wall. The room was very dark and dismal. The space that is allowed for the residents was minimal to the point where I looked outside on the terrace to see what the outdoor section would be like, and it was extremely small. You were looking almost at a barrier, because they had to build a high fence, so there was just no view at all. I felt that every question I asked was met with, "Well, not in this section." I walked out and quite frankly, my husband and I agreed we wouldn't put a dead dog in there. When people said it's lovely, it's not the section we were shown nor was the section he would be allowed to go in. You enter a lobby and then you have to take an elevator. There's no welcoming feeling at all. On the second floor, there was a hallway where the residents gather and live, and it's very confined and very depressing. Walking through it, it felt very institutional and very dated. There's very limited opportunities. I did not see a flow for anything to happen that would be beyond what I'm familiar with in other places. I would never recommend it to anyone. My father would've needed skilled care there, and he was gonna be long term. I'm sure Homeland comes highly recommended, but I don't think it's the area that we saw. When I asked to see that, we were not permitted. So, when I've heard positive things, it's probably truthful on another wing, and I didn't have preview to that. I only know what I saw."

"My mom moved into Maryland Masonic Homes. The rooms were very nice, very well-kept up, very pretty, and there’s a lot of room in them. The staff is extremely caring, constantly calling, checking, and letting me know what’s going on. Everything there is just outstanding. They offer everything from little clubs to meetings, to selling things, to ceramic. They have music every other day for the residents to listen to. The food is excellent, it’s like going to a restaurant. I would recommend it to anybody and everybody."

"Broadmead is a wonderful place that our grandmother raves about constantly! The staff truly went out of their way to make her feel welcome, and it didn't stop there. She always tells us how friendly and helpful everyone is to her, and how she has met some wonderful residents that she now calls friends. She raves about the staff and the delicious meals she gets in the dining room, she says she loves getting her hair done in the salon, and always tells us how helpful and warm the front desk and office staff are to her. She was reluctant to move to Broadmead, but now she says she wishes she found it sooner. We are so happy that she is happy and enjoying this stage in her life surrounded by wonderful people and living in such a pleasant atmosphere. My husband and I wish we could move in! We would definitely recommend Broadmead to anyone looking for a retirement community that is definitely 5 stars! "
