"I visited a family member at Phoebe Berks Village's independent living. They do the cleaning for you there. It's very expensive but the place is good if you can afford it. I like their food, recreational facilities, and the fact that there are a lot of activities going on. The food I tried was very good and they offer a lot of variety. The wait staff also seem very friendly. I didn't interact with a lot of the staff, just the servers at the tables, but the person I was visiting said that the staff met her needs when she called them. They moved her in and even set up everything for her and she was very impressed by that. They have library spaces at the end of each hall plus a main library. The facility is very large and very well laid out. The apartments are also large with some of them even having porches. They have kitchen areas too. For activities, they have exercises, art classes, and a lot of church activities."

"We have our name on a wait list at Chestnut Ridge at Rodale. We were welcomed. It was nice that we ran into people that we already knew. They have a lovely pool. One of the biggest positives about Chestnut Ridge is that everything is in one building. You don't have to go outside to eat or anything like that. There are many outdoor activities, like walking paths. You can walk into town on a nice path. They have gardens. We're not going to go into anything less than 1200 square feet, so they were all around 1400 square feet. It has an open concept, and nearly every room has a balcony. No problem with parking. If you want to be undercover, you'd have to pay extra for that. We did eat lunch there, and that was great. It's a fairly new facility. Compared to some of the others who have really established procedures and all that, Chestnut Ridge came across like a new facility, with people kind of learning their jobs and that kind of thing."

"We toured The Terrace at Phoebe Allentown. They showed us everything we needed to see, answered all of my questions, and showed us an apartment being renovated at the time. So, they gave us all the information we needed to decide. It's a full kitchen. All the appliances were there. My relative looked at a studio, so it was all in one room, but there was a walk-in closet. There was a bathroom that was handicapped accessible. It had a shower. The kitchen appliances were all along one wall. You could put a table there. So, it was perfectly fine for someone, an elderly person. They come in once a week, clean your apartment for you, and change your sheets if you want white sheets. They had a patio on the first floor where you could sit outside. They gave you your own parking space. You got a designated parking space right in front of the building. There were options to go outside and sit."

"Phoebe Home is very nice. We saw the apartments, which were also very nice. We had a very nice lunch there, and the gentleman was absolutely wonderful, informative, and very friendly. They have a barber shop, beauty salon, and all sorts of activities, like bus trips to go shopping."

"The Highlands is located in beautiful rolling hills in a quiet and safe residential neighborhood. It is also located in the park in Wyomissing so the grounds are beautiful, and there are pretty running and biking paths as well as a beautiful stream. The Highlands is comprised of multi-story apartment style units that are used for adults who need more care. There are also condos and single family homes for adults who are living more independently. All of the grounds maintenance is taken care of, and meals are offered in a dining hall in the main part of the building. The staff that I have interacted with seem very nice and capable, and the overall atmosphere seems warm. Additionally, there is an indoor pool, putting green, gym, and aerobics classes are offered. Residents can also take part in adult education classes and learning programs at the local universities. The facility is owned by Reading Hospital so resident care is also available and well-staffed. "I liked The Lutheran Home at Topton very much, but they don't have the plan that the other place has where you pay one price when you move in and if you need nursing home care, you still pay the same price, so they don't have that option. The place seemed nice. We liked everything about it, except they didn't have the option for long-term care. We saw a cottage and it was nice. We saw a couple of very nice apartments. The problem is, that nothing is available. You have to wait until somebody moves out before the bigger type of apartments that we're interested in would be available. We had lunch and breakfast there one time, and it was very, very nice, and the food was very good. Everybody was very friendly. It seemed like a very nice atmosphere. They have movies, bingo, and card games. I think you could be as busy as you want to be or not however you choose to do it."

"My brother is in Fairmount Homes for rehab. It's been wonderful, absolutely wonderful. It's beautiful, well run, well taken care of, and the nurses are all so nice. It's a great place to be. They're open and honest. They talk so you can understand what they're saying. So many of them use professional words that Mr. and Mrs. don't understand, but these guys are really good. They have a cafe, and it's OK. It's right on the very top of a ridge. You could see five miles in either direction."

"The people that showed me around Tel Hai were excellent. The rooms were very nice and spacious. They had beautiful cottages. They had a swimming pool, a gym and a garden. They had arts and crafts that people participated in. I ate in the cafe and it was good. It was a homey and very loving community; I would recommend them to others. "

"StoneRidge - Poplar Run was very nice. Everybody seemed to know everyone. The staff seemed to know all the people's first names, and everybody was super friendly. They had lots of activities there with dancing and special programs where they bring people in, and they had special dinners. They had upscale restaurants there for special occasions. They would have special things you could order, and it was just really, really nice. We just thought that it was not affordable for us, but it was an excellent place to go. I remember they had an exercise room. They had cottages outback. That was very interesting also besides the apartments inside. The staff was very friendly and very involved with the residents. It was well thought out."

"Our experience with Frederick was good until they told us that we didn't have enough money. It seemed very nice, that's why we were interested in going there, until they said financially we weren't in consideration. The rooms were very comparable to what my parents are going into now. They offer a little bit more amenities because it's a lot larger facility. It's a nice location. It's closer to where we live currently than where we're going. It was during COVID, so there wasn't much of a tour. The place was spread out, and it was more like a campus."

"My aunt has severe dementia and is a resident of Seton Manor. She moved in after staying home with her husband for years. It was too difficult to take care of her anymore on their own. This facility is very nice. There is always staff around to help the residents with their needs. The staff are somewhat friendly and helpful, however my aunt cannot speak anymore, so it is difficult for them to know exactly what she needs. The food seems to be edible, as with some other assisted living places, the food is not prepared or served well. There is a nice outdoor area where she can walk around and they also have birds, which she can watch to keep her occupied. She does share a room with someone else, so I can imagine that that must be taxing to some extent when there are extraordinary situations. The residents seem happy and the staff seems like they are there to help. The actual building is very easy to get to, and they have a good amount of parking. When you arrive, you have to sign in for security purposes, which is a good thing. We were there one time when there was a church service going on, and it was great to see the residents getting involved. It's nice that they are trying to keep them active. All in all, I believe it is a good place for my aunt and I'm happy that she is in good hands. Thank you for your time. "

"United Zion Retirement Community is very clean and well-kept. Their food is very good. They could use a little more staff. They're very nice, but each person has plenty to do. It doesn't have a swimming pool or some of the health things that other places have. I think the cost is a little less because of that. It's very well established. It's been here a long time. They have local people doing the cooking. I know they have invited some of the people who are in independent living to come into the kitchen and help them prepare food. They allow some of that, such as green beans, that they just need to have the ends snipped off and broken into pieces, things like that, not necessarily things that they would need to use a knife. I don't think they do a lot of trips and things like that. It's a very good value because it's a very safe place and very low key and I think that makes it very safe. There's nothing here I would improve. It's very secure. I chose it because of availability and reasonable rates plus their reputation here in town is excellent. They will be opening a new building and have 36 new apartments."

"I'm ready to move into Landis Homes when they have an opening. There is a real sense of community where people could go and there are a lot of activities and events. It's a very well-maintained facility. It's very close to where I wanted to be. The location is important. The person that showed me around was great. She was very friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. There are multiple buildings. It appeared to be extremely clean, neat, and well cared for. They have patios and balconies depending on what you choose. Some have sunrooms. They have a wide variety. They showed me independent living for the most part because that's what I was looking for, but if you need to add assistance, later on, that is available."

"I visited EverTrue Luther Crest. They were very experienced, and they have a much larger facility. They have personal care, nursing, and memory care, all in the same facility. The rooms have been built at different times, and they can be very different, which is interesting. You don't have this cookie-cutter kind of feel to it. The dining area was large. We've been there before for other occasions, and the food was always great. They even have a personal dining hall that you can kind of request, like if you want a family party or something like that for a special occasion. Parking seemed adequate. It's all open parking. It's a very fine facility. The staff was good. It has a pool, which is a plus for me. They're very limited in where you can walk and be outside, and they did not have gardens."

"I have enjoyed the times I visited Moravian Manor. A dear friend of mine has taken me multiple times to a men's prayer breakfast held in the dining room. I really appreciate seeing older and younger men, working or retired coming together to encourage each other spiritually. Many of my friends' grandparents live at Moravian Manor. This gives the place a real sense of family and community. When I go to visit one person I may end up seeing many other familiar faces. The staff is always friendly and accomodating. They work behind the scenes to make sure every need is met, but at the same time, don't mind stopping to talk and laugh with you.I drive past Moravian Manor all the time and I love to see folks out walking on the sidewalks around the buildings or sitting on benches under the shade of the trees. I think it means a lot to them that the outside of the facilities is just as enjoyable and plesant as the inside. Many other places I've been to don't offer such beautiful surroundings. "

"I toured Simpson Meadows Retirement Community. It's just really well-kept. It's nicely appointed. The people were wonderful. It's like one-stop shopping. They have a general practitioner, a podiatrist, and a dentist. They do phlebotomy work, x-rays, and a whole host of eye doctors that come into the facility, and any specialist you would go out with, they have transportation included. All types of activities and groups come in. They get musical groups that come once a week. They have a lot. They have dining and all that good stuff and housekeeping. You bring your belongings and furniture. I'll get to pick all the flooring, the wall colors, and all that stuff, so it's personalized right for my uncle. The tour was very informative. They've been great about staying in touch and working it through. They gave me a lot of guidance because he's a veteran. The services that would be beneficial to him and income from vets, they hooked me up with all that and even a realtor in Florida where he is, that would help with packing, moving out, and selling. The staff was wonderful. I've been in some of the buildings where you could smell urine and this one was immaculate."

"Brethren Village is top notch. I would have been just as pleased there, but the price is too expensive. It was more upper class and more modern, so he would not fit in. It was set up more like a village, was very spacious, and had a very pleasant atmosphere. "
