My Grandmother, a 98 year old veteran of the second world war, has stayed at this facility for respite care several times over the last few years, and I've always been very impressed. The building is aging, and it shows, but it is kept up well and always very clean. There's a charming little aviary just inside the entrance filled with songbirds, which is also well maintained. What impresses me most about this facility is the staff, though. They treated my Grandmother and her fellow veterans with all the dignity, respect, and gentleness in the world. There are also many volunteer groups who frequent the nursing home to thank the veterans for their service and offer them gifts. Over the three weeks Grandma was there, she was the recipient of a hat, two beautiful handmade lap blankets, and two visits from a therapy dog. Grandma had only good things to say about the food, and the staff love her so much there's always a small crowd of them gathered to say goodbye and wish her well when we check out. Once, a nurse said, "We cherish her, you know. She's our star." She said it in such a completely genuine way that I knew she was just the type of person I wanted taking care of my Grandmother in my absence.
