"Windsong of Sonoma is a beautiful place. My friend is in the memory care side, so to get to her, you have to go through someone who can open the door because it is locked. She has a beautiful large room with a bed, a dresser, a dining table, a TV, a bookcase, and a chair. She looks out at a garden. There's lots of staff that are around. They are wonderful and very caring people."

"Oakmont Gardens was where I would prefer to go. It had everything that I would want. I was impressed with the lady who took us around to look at things and the apartment, too. Pretty much everything I felt suited my needs. I was impressed. "

"I toured Cogir of Rohnert Park Senior Living, and I would have chosen it if I had to. What I liked about it was their kitchen has a full-size oven and stove. I like to bake, so I would want an oven. I met two young staff members, and they were very nice, very knowledgeable, and very helpful. The facility was nicely done, it's fairly new, and the apartments were nice. I've never been there before, but the surroundings seemed fine. They had a nice view of the mountains, and there were some cows and things outside of the front door. It was quite pleasant."

"Atria Tamalpais Creek seemed very nice. It's been around for a while and they did a nice remodel. I was quite impressed. It's an assisted living community, and it also has memory care. I like the location. I can't say that there was something I didn't like about it. The staff seemed fine. They did a good job and I felt very comfortable. If there was something else I wanted to know, I could've found out I'm sure. The rooms were fine. It depends on what size you want to get, a one-bedroom or a two-bedroom, and they were OK. The atmosphere was very much like where I live now, which is you can be by yourself in your apartment or you can join the community and go out into the public spaces. The public spaces were fine. If you were in good condition, you could walk to a small mall. There are restaurants nearby. It's a nice residential street to walk in. If you don't want to go to the main street and get somewhere, you can just walk in the neighborhood, and comfortably seems safe, and that's what I liked about it. It had much more flexibility. They had a couple of rooms where they had activities, but I didn't see anybody doing an activity while I happened to be there. They take people on excursions and things like that. I met about four different people, and they were very personable, very helpful, totally open to questions, and gave good answers to questions as well."

"Oakmont of Novato was one of the newest so everything is nice, clean, and well laid out. They're somewhat in the process of expanding some of the areas, but they've got them set up there and all the facilities in the assisted living area are all pretty new. The living spaces were compact but pretty efficient. The people that I talked to seemed very nice and cordial. I didn't have any problem with any of the staff. They seemed good."

"Brookdale Chanate was clean. Interactions between the staff and the people living there were great. The rooms were nice and the dining room was spectacular. The only thing I didn't like was the distance from some of the rooms to the main hub. It's because my mom has low mobility. Very knowledgeable, very caring staff member, she had a welcoming smile, and said hello to the people I saw walking by, so she knew them. It sounded like they had everything we needed, and would only charge us on what we needed. They had a game room, activity room, I didn't see a gym there."

"When we looked for a place for both my parents, we visited Lodge at Paulin Creek. It was a beautiful area and the staff were wonderful. The manager who showed us around knew all the employees and there was a personal relationship between them. The atmosphere was light because everyone seemed happy. "

"I'm very familiar with Brighton Gardens, which recently changed owners (it's now run by Emeritus). It's an excellent facility with three levels of care: skilled nursing, assisted living, and memory. It's located in central Santa Rosa, up on a hill with a beautiful view. Even the skilled nursing part of the facility"”the part I mostly see"”doesn't look institutional. It's homey and nice. The rooms come in a range of sizes (some singles, some doubles) and are light-filled and feel warm and inviting. The staff is great. They're loving and sweet--genuinely attached to the residents. And the new owners seem to have the same good standards of care. The food is good, too. The memory unit is especially good, with one of the best activity programs I've seen. It's one of Brighton Gardens' best selling points. They have a full program of activities and the residents also have the option of going on an outing in a bus. There's always music there. And all the staff members are engaging and loving. End of life care is very good"”so loving. They step up and really care for them through the whole process. The only downside is the cost. If one can afford it, it's a good choice."

"My Mom has been a resident of this community for a few years and I have been very happy with the care she has received. When reading the reviews on this site I was saddened to see a negative one and felt it was my duty to share my positive experience. My Mom started out in assisted living and absolutely loved it! She loves activities and the programming kept her very involved and happy. The Friday trips were a highlight of her week. I feel secure and confident that my mom is well taken care of and that the staff truly care about her. My mom's memory began to get worse and Villa Capri management approached me about moving her to memory care when there was availability. She was not able to do all the activities she enjoyed and in general was much more confused about life. I was nervous at first and not sure how she would do but it went so smoothly all my worrying was for nothing. Memory care has different programing for activities but it is great for my mom because it is on her level and she feels like she is successful and participating. The care staff in memory care work hard, but I can also see that so many of them enjoy what they are doing. The residents are comfortable and I know my mom fells secure in her surroundings which is what I want for her. She is still progressing in her memory loss but I know she loves where she is. Last week she played bean bag baseball and I have never seen her smile so big. Villa Capri is a wonderful place that has made a huge difference in my life and my mom's life. "

"Cogir of Vallejo Hills Senior Living has both assisted living and independent living, but they don't have memory care. The appearance was very nice. The staff was very sweet. They have a nice restaurant. The only thing, in my situation, where the room that was available, you had to go down the hall, down an elevator, down another hall, so somebody who's confused would be hard to find the restaurant, but to a regular person, it'd be fine. They had a lot of games and activities, they had bingo, and they had movies. I saw a studio and it was very large and you can have a pet there. They provide three meals a day. From what I was told, their chefs are from the culinary school in Napa. The facility was nice."

"Drake Terrace is not perfect, but it's pretty good. The food is very good, and they have quite a few activities. It's in a really convenient location, and the surroundings are very pretty. There are hills and lots of trees around. The people seemed very nice. It's hard to get used to living in any kind of place like it, but it's mostly positive. They have everything from studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms, and I'm in a one-bedroom unit with a pretty good-sized kitchen. Some units have handicap-accessible showers with grab bars. They have a couple of exercise classes, tai chi, entertainment that comes in, movies, and rides to doctors, shopping, and a scenic drive once a week. I was pleasantly surprised that the food is good, and they have three choices at each meal. It's pretty expensive. It does not have a swimming pool, and I wish they did."

"We were able to visit The Vincent. It was not a building that was converted, so I liked that it was built originally for seniors. The walls are soundproof. The food was excellent. The amenities are great. The staff members that we met were knowledgeable. They train their caregivers there at the facility. It's not a corporate facility, but they have everything a person could want. We actually left a deposit to hold a room, but the only problem with them is that the room is on the third floor. My friend has mobility issues, and so he is afraid of being on any floor in case there is an earthquake or a fire. He is afraid that he would not be able to get out of the building, and that's his only hesitation. I was going to call back to see if there was any chance that they would have a resident that wanted to move up to the third floor, and so my friend is definitely looking for a ground floor. They offer a discount on the community fee. The building had a very warm and natural feeling. The grab bars looked like chair molding around the walls. They had linen tablecloths and a full table setting service. Everything was just top-notch and clean. There is a library, and they have what's running in the theater now in their movie facility, so it's not old movies. At The Vincent, it was like eating in a restaurant. It was pizza day the day that we were there, and they had their own brick pizza oven to cook pizzas. To order from the menu, everything was fresh, and nothing frozen. It was a totally different experience."

"Benicia Angel's Home I was amazing. I felt that it was exactly what I wanted my mother-in-law to be. The grounds were lovely and the house inside was lovely. Each bedroom had its own bathroom or a shared bathroom. It was very nice and very clean. The workers there were very kind. The owner took us on a tour and she was lovely as well. They had a backyard where they encouraged people to go out daily to get some fresh air and stuff. I had no complaints about it, except for the price."
